NCS open-division 3 seedings

Newman projected to be stronger next year than this year ?
Newman is still fairly young. They have 3 starters coming back. They will be very good for at least the next couple years. But I say that at the right level. They stay in the D4 ranks and they are a deep state playoff team. They get pulled up and that changes.
Also Santa Rosa public schools are a bit of a messy situation right now. They are deciding which HS is getting closed and a lot folks think its Montgomery. Newman in the long run will benefit from one less HS because they will pick up a kid or 2 and really this will help in all sports and enrollment.

The tie between Cal high and redwood is broken . Cal High moves to down to the #2 spot.
Head Royce moves up couple spots
Monte Vista up couple spots
Amador down a spot

Curious to why Ygnacio Valley is ranked so high? 14-8 and 6th place in their league. #3 seed in D1 makes no sense

It is questionable - they are around 5th per max preps. Remember to move back Moreau. YV has recent victories over Clayton and blowout road win vs Northgate. Their Big man continues to peck away at improvement. Team shooting gos from horrific to ok. Things change

Amador loses to Monte vista. Campo took 3rd league L on Friday. You can still throw up a coin between them and couple others. They have Favorable ending to league schedule. Let’s see what happens . Definitely would not bet on that 3 ranking.

Hey ORebel, thanks for the work you do on this. I noticed International is missing, we are 72 overall by maxpreps 12-11 with quality wins over Stuart Hall, Piedmont, Gateway, and Athenian. Everyone else ranked in 70s and 80s

Huge mistake on my end my bad. Just added International to the python script and added you to the sheet. You are D4

In the DAL alone, it's a total dogpile with 7 teams vying for the 6 league playoff spots.

Acalanes is a near lock for the #1 seed at 9-1.

Las Lomas, who seems to win the most vital games while losing many others, is 8-2 (not bad for a .500 ballclub!)

Then, we have a knot of 3-loss teams (Campo, Northgate, YV, CVC, College Park), and they pretty much taken turns at beating each other.

Gonna be a wild week...

Div 1 NCS looks to be really exciting. For the first time in memory you would be hard pressed to choose the “correct” final four.

Likewise, Divisions 2 & 3 look to be hotly contested, although maybe not as wide open if the team placements are close to those predicted. Moreau, CN, SMB & University should be a dogfight in D2.

After 2 months Clayton Valley Charter has their division 1 Utah st player back . He has a major impact!

It would not be surprising to see Clayton in or winning the NCS championship game.

Clayton over Northgate

After tonight's games, yes... But there were bunches of scenarios possible before tonight's play, which is when I said my deal about the total mess... I also asked Coach Dyer before tonight's game, and he said the same thing.

Looks like the spots are locked in now...

Impressive win by CN last night by nearly 30 over Montgomery to go 10-0 in NFL.
They are looking like a 2-3 seed in D2 after that game. Be cool if they got to play St Mary's again like the old days when they battled in D4.

Could Redwood be considered for Open? Look at their results since Carr gained eligibility. It could be one of the situations where the committee overrides the computers.

Yes log jam of all time

Still looking at it today , difficult for almost anyone to figure out

What makes it more complicated some of the teams have scheduled lesser amount of league games than others

💯 locked in 2 seed based on Mp . This is outside of the committee altering within the bracket

St Mary’s on the other hand . Could easily move to the 4 seed

From what has been shared by others . No altering of who enters the bracket/division. 100 computer determined. Once the bracket/division is set then the committee can make seeding adjustments.

If the aforementioned is a fact - From a MaxPreps perspective. Redwood chances of being in the open are slim. They will have to prove this theory amongst division one competition. Considering they will host almost every game. If they remain to be healthy. We will find out how worthy they were to be in the open.

Yes their is a legitimate debate that redwood could be the 6 seed and or you could make this a 7 team open bracket.

I don't see it. Maybe if he played all year. And that is a maybe. But a dangerous D1 team for sure!

According to Coach Dyer, the key tiebreaker stat is number of losses in league, no matter how many wins. That was the only way they could fairly deal with the strange uneven schedules. After that, then you get into who-beat-who. Last night's games cleared things up bigtime. I think.

Does CN have the ability to beat the Mighty D2 team Moreau ?

There are a few teams listed that won’t meet the criteria to even qualify for NCS. Does being 500% in league, overall or vs Division still exist to qualify as in the past?

Its playoff time!!!

Anyone can win, especially with this new NCS Playoff format (Maxpreps bing the final arbiter of brackets)

In the Open Division
I think its pretty much locked in DLS, SRV, Salesian, Dublin, DV and Liberty
The only issue I foresee is Who should be #2 (if they go by Maxpreps only) then its SRV, but Salesian has the head to head at Gridley. As we learned last playoffs head to head wins mean nothing to the committee. (See last years D2 NCS seeding)

In Division One
I think Cal has locked it and deserves the #1 Seed. They have played a tough pre-season and have a really tough league which did pretty well in. I think Redwood with the win over Moreau should be the #2 seed. I would be very weary of drawing Amador Valley, Alameda or CVC is this bracket. This one will be a complete dogfight!

In Division Two
I think Moreau has locked in the #1 Seed. They have played a pretty tough preseason schedule (minus the blowouts in Hawaii) and easily handled their league as usual. Cardinal Newman should be the #2 seed and they have been playing pretty good as of late! Earlier this year I had St. Mary's Berkeley at the #2 seed, but with their loses in league to Albany and Bethel I have them on the 3 line (btw Moreau, Newman and SMB are all D4 so I think with the way the rules are set up now they will all qualify for Nor-Cals no matter how they finish)

In Division Three
I think Branson is the #1 Seed. Pedigree and history of program plus losing top player and still competing at a high level (almost beat Redwood) gives them the nod. I have Cornerstone as the #2 seed barely edging SJND and San Domenico.

Im curious to how this all pans out.

Why do you think Moreau, Newman & SMB will qualify for NorCal’s? If all end up D2 they need to finish in top 3 to qualify from what I understand. NCS has added a 3rd place game this year. Winner of 3rd place game qualifies for NorCal’s.

When I played it was only section champ and runner up advanced. Today if you have a pulse and a few guys who can make a lefty layup you get in.

I was told that all the D4 teams that end up in D2 of NCS Playoffs because of being ranked in the top 25 would auto qualify under the new system. Let me know if i am wrong or interpreting it wrong. Even if they lose in the 1st round they wont drop below most of the D3 and D4 teams in the section and each section has to submit their top teams in order of how they finished. (and the CIF cant change that order)

The new system allows teams to move up or down a maximum of two divisions from their base division unless they have a top-6 MaxPreps ranking in the section.

Once placed in a division bracket, the base division no longer matters as teams must finish in the top three to qualify. This year, 3rd place games have been added.
