NCS open-division 3 seedings

DLS Norcal CIF Open Bid is def in jeopardy now.
The EBAL playoffs are next week. If DLS makes the finals, they’ll still have a nice seed for the NCS Open. If they win that or make the finals, they would still be in the mix for NorCal Open.

The EBAL is just incredibly loaded. Dublin ended the season 22-4, but will be the 5th seed in the EBAL playoffs. DLS also 22-4, and the 4th seed. Cal also 22-4, and the 3rd seed. Crazy.

Hoops definitely seems different than football. In football alot of the post were about teams getting pulled up into Open divisions (as in competing against the best was a bad thing) and losing games beforehand and going to a lesser and lower bracket could actually beneficial. It’s good and refreshing to see the pussification has not taken over all sports.

Does Cal's win put them in the NCS Open and push Liberty back to D1?
I have Liberty up to 5
Dougherty to 6 and cal stays div 1

Or it’s liberty to 5 Cal moves into 6 spot and dv to div 1 .

Tough call w Liberty playing a low rated team. It is close really close

We will see how much the algorithm juices up cal for knocking off numero uno by a large amount

@Smallveteran found an interesting twist. Mt Eden is D1 ranked #59 on MaxPreps but they are in 1st place in their league. I’m guessing they would have to get shoved in as a league champ. Thoughts?

TC good find/interesting

Not 100 here is what I have

Yes they are an automatic NCS qualifier. + they receive auto home game . Unless matched up vs another league champion.

It is ultra close for cal liberty dv every game matters

It should be - no disrespect to Cal but losing to them by 19 with Blair should be an automatic disqualification unless they win the EBAL tourney which they won't - being on the road against SRV then against Cal v DV winner in the finals.

Whose to say that they will even make it to
The SRV game they may have to
take on a more then capable dublin team on Wednesday albeit they will be at home!

Thanks. I just removed Granada and Foothill. Mt. Eden is still ranked too low to be in D3 right now. They are the first team out.

@orebel21 Think you can remove Foothill & Granada from D3. Neither will qualify unless they go on a run this week. Add Mt Eden as they will win their league. Great work, love the updates.

Are D6 teams not eligible to move up? St Vincent DePaul is having a good season.

Looking at d3-d5, the following teams are ineligible if I'm not mistaken:
#69 Miramonte: 12-14 overall, 3-9 league, 3-4 d3
#71 Windsor: 12-14 overall, 1-9 league, 7-8 d2
#79 Stuart Hall: 11-15 overall, 1-9 league, 2-9 d4
#89 Marin Academy: 9-14 overall, 1-9 league, 4-8 d4
#94 Vallejo: 6-20 overall, 1-11 league, 2-6 d3
#99 Fortuna: 8-18 overall, 0-8 league, 3-5 d4
#106 Bentley: 10-16 overall, 0-10 league, 4-10 d5

Not sure:
#65 St. Patrick-St. Vincent: 10-12 overall, 4-8 league, 1-0 d5 - how many base division games do you need to play to be eligible? I thought it was 2 games, but might be wrong
#81 Athenian: 12-12 overall, 3-7 league, 8-9 d5 - huge playoff game tonight vs d5 college prep to determine whether they qualify. They beat college prep 62-42 in their first matchup, but lost 51-46 in their 2nd matchup.
#103 Justin Sienna: 8-14 overall, 6-6 league, 0-3 d4 - playoff win or loss will determine whether .500 in league
#107 South Fork: 11-12 overall, 2-4 league, 2-3 d5 - need to win two playoff games to qualify

TC - correct, d6 is protected so teams can't move in or out

Thank you so much for your work on this... One note on the girls side (I know this is a boys thread)- Salesian is a D4 school, so they should be in the D2 bracket. Thank you again for your work on this!
My understanding is that the Salesian boys asked to be put in D1.

Its playoff time!!!

Anyone can win, especially with this new NCS Playoff format (Maxpreps bing the final arbiter of brackets)

In the Open Division
I think its pretty much locked in DLS, SRV, Salesian, Dublin, DV and Liberty
The only issue I foresee is Who should be #2 (if they go by Maxpreps only) then its SRV, but Salesian has the head to head at Gridley. As we learned last playoffs head to head wins mean nothing to the committee. (See last years D2 NCS seeding)

In Division One
I think Cal has locked it and deserves the #1 Seed. They have played a tough pre-season and have a really tough league which did pretty well in. I think Redwood with the win over Moreau should be the #2 seed. I would be very weary of drawing Amador Valley, Alameda or CVC is this bracket. This one will be a complete dogfight!

In Division Two
I think Moreau has locked in the #1 Seed. They have played a pretty tough preseason schedule (minus the blowouts in Hawaii) and easily handled their league as usual. Cardinal Newman should be the #2 seed and they have been playing pretty good as of late! Earlier this year I had St. Mary's Berkeley at the #2 seed, but with their loses in league to Albany and Bethel I have them on the 3 line (btw Moreau, Newman and SMB are all D4 so I think with the way the rules are set up now they will all qualify for Nor-Cals no matter how they finish)

In Division Three
I think Branson is the #1 Seed. Pedigree and history of program plus losing top player and still competing at a high level (almost beat Redwood) gives them the nod. I have Cornerstone as the #2 seed barely edging SJND and San Domenico.

Im curious to how this all pans out.
H2H in the OPEN in football came into play.

Marin Catholic beat CN in league.
CN was 4 in MP while MC was the 5 and they filp flopped them in the OPEN seedings (and rightfully so).

Their was a delay but it happened … open has movement. Benicia moves into div 2.

Cal high has a emphatic win over DLS if they beat monte vista and make it to the semi final against DV it would be very hard to place liberty above them in my opinion.

Looks like with Benicia's win over YV, they jumped themselves into the D2 bracket. College Park should send them a thank you as now instead of having to go on the road to moreau in the D2 bracket they are lined up for a home game in the D3 bracket
DLS is now #3 and SRV and Salesian are #1 and #2 respectively.

Agree but have to remember that Liberty is a league champ

I think with Liberty's whole body of work plus the league champ designation they are a lock for the open (either 6th or better based on the next 3 days of games)

Cal is on bubble based on how they finish in the EBAL playoffs. IF they make the championship game they are for sure in, if they play well in the semis then it will be interesting what they do.

Dublin is in no matter what (imo) based on body of work so far. The only thing that is debatable at this point is who is the #1 seed and who is the #6 seed.

Cal high has a win over dublin and dela 2 of the top 5 teams in the open discussion and there strength of schedule is better then liberty's.

SRV is currently #1, but if they end up on top in MaxPreps rankings, they’ll almost certainly give the top seed in the NCS Open to Salesian based on their H2H 60-58 win over SRV at Gridley.
I get your point, but I am not so sure a 2-point H2H win wayyy back in December is really enough of a factor, especially if SRV wins the EBAL wars, er, playoffs.
