I think we all already know what will be announced on Monday. We will be lucky to have sports in January and even that is a long shot. I wish this was not the case but with the way things are trending and with so many school districts opening with distance only learning I think the CIF’s hands are tied. There can’t be sports if there is no school. Does anyone see anything other than a postponement that the CIF can announce on Monday?

Nope. It’s not happening. Too much downside risk and I would not doubt if 2020-21 is a no go period.
And I’m the last one who wants this.

I think that is the way its trending, although if I am CIF I put the burden on each individual section. Last time I checked the NCS financials they had a severely underfunded pension. There may not be an NCS section after 2021

Breaking News: SFUSD will continue Distance Learning this Fall. Prediction: AAA (SF) HIgh School Sports will be canceled for the 2020-21 School Year. I just don’t see sports happening because of Covid-19 AND because of budgetary restraints. From a financial view, it makes sense, BUT, the kids lose in the end.

Along with SF, both LAUSD (Los ANGELES) and SDUSD (San Diego) have opted to go social distancing and online this coming year. So three of the biggest cities have their schools doing distance learning it will s pretty much forgone conclusion that CIF will at the very least postpone Fall sports if not cancel all sports altogether

Looks like Monterey school district going to distance learning for at least first two months of the school year. It can be concluded that Fall sports will be on hold. If these sports are deferred until January - what will be the impact on Winter Sports. Seems there could be an impact on basketball in some cases where many strong football athletes also play and vice versa.

Folsom /Cordova announced distant learning fall 2020. I’m not sure how many football/hoop players we have in today’s 1 focused sport world. Seems like it will be a minimal impact at least for varsity if they end Up playing at all.

How unfortunate.. zero kids under 18 have died from Covid=19 in Califronia per CDC.

Your kids are not in danger at school. . That compares to 190 who die from the seasonal flu every year, 436 who commit suicide, 625 who are murdered, 4114 who die from drowning or other unintentional deaths.

Yesterday, there were 327 people nationwide who died with the coronavirus

That’s “with” the coronavirus because there is difference between dying with the coronavirus and of the coronavirus.

if you die of Stage Four lung cancer and you have the coronavirus, you are listed as a coronavirus death.

Despite that, you died with it — not of it.

Every day in the United States, 7,500 people die. 2.8 million around the nation every year.

Yesterday, 7,200 died of something other than the coronavirus and got almost no attention.

Again the kids may not be in danger but teachers, administrators, staff, coaches and the like are all in danger. Not only that but the kids parents and grandparents are in danger. So you may be right that the kids are not in danger but others around them are so unless we corral the kids and keep them together separated from their families than ok. Anyhow there have been multiple cases this summer already where football coaches in different states have contracted the virus through workouts because kids did not know they carried it or were asymptomatic so there is that. We know we want ttt he e kids to play however for the sake of the health of the community it is better to not have them play right now...

The amount of time it took to amalgamate this level of ignorance is astounding.

Well you right. Because they actually will die from Covid-19 not coronavirus. A virus can be cured the Covid-19 cannot.

Disagree. Only folks that are older than 65 or are in I’ll health are at risk. THOSE folks need to take serious precautions. ZERO kids in high school will die from this. Let the kids have their youth and enjoy school and their friends. Seems selfish to put older adult needs ahead of kids. If a group of Americans is required to quarantine, let it be the elderly and sick NOT the kids. 50 years ago, it would not have even been a question. People are allowing the talking heads to think for them. Whatever happened to common sense? NO KIDS are dying from this and you can bet your ass the coaches want a season as much or even more than the kids. If teachers are afraid to teach, they can quit. Maybe 20%........ and they can easily be replaced. Their job requirements just changed. Give them hazard pay and PLAY BALL.

Prove it. I’d be happy to debate you. Or, would you rather just name call then run away? I have noticed that you have been dead wrong on nearly every post on this site.
You started out your post saying only people over 65 are at risk or I think that is what you were saying. Which would be as far from factual as it gets. However I guess it depends what the risk you speak of is.

At risk of dying. Look at the numbers. This is no extreme virus. This isn’t close to AIDS or the Spanish Flu. When 20% of our population is wiped out, THEN we can stop kids from going to school and stop families from earning a living. This virus has an average age of death of 82 and less lethal than the yearly flu. Truth. So far 1 in 10,000 have died from it. If it continues at this rate, we’ll have 2 in 10,000 by Christmas. Don’t let the media brainwash you, think for yourself and use common sense.

From Johns Hopkins. Not sure how you can say COVID is less lethal than the yearly flu? Isn’t 137,419 in five months a bigger number than 62,000 in seven months?

And 13,000 died from AIDS in the US last year.

Deaths

COVID-19: In the U.S, 137,419 people have died of COVID-19, as of July 16, 2020.*

Flu: In the U.S., from Oct. 1, 2019 – Apr. 4, 2020, the CDC estimates that 24,000 to 62,000 people died from the flu. (The CDC does not know the exact number because the flu is not a reportable disease in most parts of the U.S.)

Wow, this thread went south real quick. There is all sorts of conflicting information regarding this virus depending on which news source you use. Is anyone on this thread a medical professional or work in the medical field? I would love to hear the experiences and statistics from those working in the trenches - I am sure they paint a very real picture of the pandemic.

If not, we are all just merely spectators to this, just like a parent (hearing and seeing only what they want to in regards to their own child) in the stands that thinks they know how to run the team better than the coach.

what i've learned, the people that think this pandemic is a hoax, there is no changing their minds, no matter what. Kids don't die. not true. this is just the flu. not true. herd immunity. not true.

it's frustrating, but it's reality i guess. People are going to deny science, think conspiracy, be selfish (PERSONAL CHOICE! MY RIGHTS!).

I'll say this, even though it's pointless:
even if not one kid dies (which if schools open up, in this climate where numbers are spiking all over, there will be a kid death, i think devos said they think it will be .05% of kids who get it will die), the numbers will all continue to climb because infected kids will be transmission vectors.

2 weeks ago, people here were saying 'deaths are going down'. yeah, not true. cases go up, deaths follow, about a 2 week lag... and yeah.. it's happening.

but of course, people will ignore these points as well.

there are plenty of social media posts of front line workers expressing their frustration and fatigue and depression.

Or do people here think those are fake?

Exactly, I have friends that our ICU nurses, pediatric nurses, and respiratory therapists that all share the exact feelings you state. They see the toll it takes on the youth, as well as, the adults and elderly. Point of interest also, they said the youth that vape or smoke are especially being hit hard with complications and possible permanent lung damage as a result of vape/smoke and COVID-19.

I always tell my foreign friends that America is great because of the freedom to disagree. Stupid people are allowed to speak as much as doctors and professors. People who don’t believe in COVID-19 are allowed to die. They’re even allowed to kill the rest of us. Most people in power in developed areas understand how many dumb people are in America so we do not have to worry about sports starting up in California until there is a vaccine. July 20th will confirm this. Parents who want to ignore the virus can send their kids to Texas or Florida because I’m sure they will have seasons. Places like California and New York will not use FOX news nor the Trumps to decide who lives and dies.
