Regardless of the seeding/ranking. Must win for Campo or disappointing season. From a competitive perspective.

Dyer is my top coach in the east bay area. For consistent results with the talent he has available. Like last weeks home loss to the broncos.
This same home matchup should be a victory for Dyer and the cougars. Is Harris back ? He sat out his last game played . If so, Dyer better protect that left lane alot better. He sure can finish ! Broncos when fully healthy can bang the glass.

It should be a home victory, but talk about a dangerous draw for the #3 seeded Campo. Northgate at #14 has beaten them both times this season, including just this week at Campo. This has to be the most captivating 3-14 matchup.

In the open division those semi final games
Will be must watch basketball while DLS and salesian have to be favored to meet up in the chip don't count on SRV or dublin
To go away peacefully. liberty and cal both
Having great seasons lots to look forward
In seeing how this open bracket will unfold.

DLS-Salesian in the Open Final. I’m still going with the Pride with their athleticism, defense and depth. Sparty was awfully impressive tho against DV.

After cal annihilated De La Salle we thought the ship was sinking. Now the Spartans appear more mighty than at any other point throughout the season.

The transition offense is nearly impossible to stop. Blair throws his jump passes with more velocity then Roger Clemmons. Blair’s straight away speed is possibly fastest in all of Northern California. Balogun patrolling the baseline with his abnormal strength. Team defense is stout ! If Spartans keep this attacking strategy they will not be beat. It is refreshing to see them understand. They have the players to be the aggressors. Sometimes it takes serious pain (Cal high
Loss) to see that you need to change 👏🏼

He isn't coaching Mt Diablo or something. He has had a couple D1 college players and a few more who play D2.

The cupboard has been far from empty talent-wise at Campo, but it's not like he's had a mess of 3-4-5 star studs to work with, either.

Campo beats at least a few teams a year with more apparent talent that Dyer's got. In some cases, Campo has knocked off teams that looked in warmups like they were gonna whip the Cougs by 40.

The real acid test for Dyer will be next year... Only four players with any varsity experience (outside of a few minutes of late-season JV call-up time). Good news is one of the four returnees is the starting PG. This year's JV and frosh are solid, but not earth-shatteringly terrific. Three freshmen played JV all year, so they might be on the fast track, but it's wayyyyyyy too early to tell.

Still, I think Coach will get 'em going... and like Campo always seems to do, they'll "punch above their weight class".

But right now, it's playoff time!!

Bums! ha... I haven't heard that word since somebody described Chris Washburn and Joe Barry Carrol.

Northgate getting seeded #14 couldn't ask for a more favorable 14 v 3 1st round game to be honest. Just another reason why the new seeding format sucks. In the past the committee would have attempted to make sure teams in the same league didn't face each other in round 1.

Pretty sure last year they pitted college park vs campo round 1 . In years past their is usually a round 1 league on league. Somewhere between div 1 or div 2. I understand your frustration what is the solution ?

This is correct, says the dude who was at both games.

That playoff game seemed a real letdown, playoff-excitement wise. Campo had beaten them twice, by 7 and by 6... But neither game had felt that close. CP's fans seemed rather listless, especially after Campo won the first quarter 14-2.

This is different, though... The last Campo-NG game was really close, could have gone either way. I can't say much about the first meeting; I was kinda busy being flat on my back in the hospital. Couldn't even watch; my cellphone was misplaced at home with the power off.

Should be a real battle!

who are the top candidates for coach of the year ? in north coast section
I would say bill powers at acalanes has to be a candidate I would also add miles tarver from alameda taking over and dethroning o'dowd as league champs in his 2nd year I believe And you can't leave out tom Costello from dublin who lost arguably the 2nd best player in the section and still has his team in the open division those would be my 3 candidates!

Would go Costello, outstanding job after losing an elite kid. Like what Tarver is doing but let's be honest, Odowd is down. Powers got lucky facing league teams when key kids sat out and he tends to wilt in big games (Campo and CVC last week). Plus the DAL is really down.

Ok some quick discrepancies I noticed:

1) Dougherty Valley beat California not once, but twice. Not just beat them, they drubbed them. Once by 29 and another time by 16! In a sick and twisted way this actually benefits California who instead of getting back to back games against SRV and Salesian, they get a comfortable 1 seed and should be able to get by Pittsburgh and the winner of Monte Vista/Ygnacio Valley with ease.

2) In Division 1…and I’m sorry in advance Kiddman….how does Northgate beat Campolindo twice and they not only play them in Rd 1, but Campo gets the home game? You couldn’t have switched Northgate and Albany so we at least don’t get a 3rd matchup where the team that lost twice has to go on the road? What?

3) In D4 and D5 (I know we don’t care about them) International bears Gateway twice. They decide to put Gateway in D4 and give International a 1 seed in D5. Isn’t the team that won supposed to be put in the higher division?

4) This is more of an observation, but shout out the BCL West who send 3 teams to D2. Speaking of D2, im prediciting a matchup between San Domenico and the head coaches alma mater Branson in the Championship

1) You mean Dougherty benefits. They are in D1, Cal is in the Open. I agree with you though.

3) Agree again, Don’t understand how International wins league tourney championship game vs Gateway. Gateway is #5 in D4 and International is #1 in D5. Pinole Valley was a qualifier and didn’t get in at all. If anybody understands this please help. I’m as confused as @ayalar09

Ohlmeyer at Cal hs has to be in the mix this season.
Excited to see the coaches picks , so far … Costello and Ohlmeyer . My top two picks for open level and division 1 (based) teams.

Also like Liberty - John Heinz/Rich Morton

Div 2/Div 3 - Someone mentioned Powers of Acalanes . Yes he is on my list. Has some critics. You can’t deny they won the league title going 11-1 . Regardless of the opinion that was made about the strength of dal league. He exceeded all regular season expectations. In a 13 team league. End of story ! Here are some others - Would like to hear more about adversity and player makeup

Montgomery - Steve Arrow super steady all season
Albany - Bill Tressler who were these guys before pre season ? Once they beat Terra Linda they finally caught maybe a couple people’s attention.
Las Lomas - Phil Galvin picked to finish 6th in league finished 2nd
Myles Tarver - Alameda highly ranked div 1 team . They reached the next level for the program. Watch out coming years

Div 4 and higher ?

I'm pretty sure the teams would rather not have to face each other a 3rd time in any case, especially two games in a row...

But that's the way the NCS did it, followed the Maxpreps rankings exactly. Not a great system, but at least they were consistent with it.

Other Coug notes: Campo beat #5 Alameda by 10 up at Montgomery, beat #4 CVC a couple weeks ago, but that was before Perryman returned. Campo beat #7 Acalanes... but lost to #10 seed Archie Williams. Campo popped #15 Montgomery by 15 at their house... Campo beat #8 YV...

So Campo has played 6 of these guys... Well, more like 5+. Missing Perryman sure helped us out.

This does bring up one thing, the only good result of this "competitive equity" mess is: First-round games are much less likely to be blowouts. I remember a number of years in the past where I couldn't find a compelling game anywhere nearby, so I stayed home to watch streams.

Those are a lot of good wins . It explains how the system ranked them 3. It felt like their 4 league losses and home 1st rd playoff loss. Would have them ranked further back then #3 . This info explains it

And Ohlmeyer never had the 2nd best player in the section, or any D1 players for that matter. But somehow managed to knock off both Dublin & DLS in route to a school record number of wins and a 23-5 record, playing in what is widely acknowledged as the toughest league in Northern CA. Nobody saw this coming. He’s got to be the favorite, not just mentioned or in the mix.

Looking at Maxpreps NCS rankings for last year compared to this year the top 5 most improved teams are as follows (note that I only looked at the top 50 for this year):

1. Newark Memorial (117 -> 38)
2. Rancho Cotate (98 -> 37)
3. San Rafael (93 -> 43)
4. Livermore (94 -> 46)
T5. California (51 -> 6)
T5. Acalanes (63 -> 18)

Ohlmeyer is my coach of the year. Going from ranked 51 to open division is quite impressive.
