Couple of notes from tonight

1-A: Serra beats San Joaquin Memorial 28-18

The Padres jumped out to a 14-0 lead and got an interception return from Terence Loville to win their third NorCal title in four years.

2-A: McClymonds beat Manteca 46-13

Mack made a big jump in division this year, but it was the same old story. The Warriors led 31-7 at halftime and will try for a fourth straight state title next Saturday.

3-A: Rancho Cotate beat Sierra 10-0

The Cougars posted their second straight shutout and third on the season to win the program’s first NorCal title. They are apart of a 6-0 NCS showing this weekend.

4-A: Escalon beat Pleasant Valley 41-17

Pleasant Valley led 9-6 before Escalon reeled off 35 straight points. This will be Escalon’s second time playing for a state title after winning Division III in 2010. Escalon will be one of two teams from the Trans Valley League (Ripon)

5-A: Milpitas beat Caruthers 26-19

After winning the 4-A state title in 2016, Milpitas is back playing on the final weekend after going 4-6 in the regular season. It was a back and forth contest in Cartuthers.

6-A: Salesian beat Santa Cruz 35-14

The Pride took control in the second half to win its first ever football NorCal title. Their 12 wins thus far are the most in a season since they went 12-1 in 2014.

Yep TVL isn’t only league. If Ripon wins next week, they will have four different state winners.

Great weekend for north and NCS especially. !!
A lot of talk about the NCS being down all year and a lot of their teams being overrated. After watching Los Gatos vs CN game, I'm not sure how Wilcox was scoreless after the first and up only 16-0 at the half. There was really nothing LG could do on either offense or defense. That could have been a 70-0 game for the number 1 ranked D2 team in CCS. I took a lot of what CCS followers said at face value, but the NCS going undefeated in NorCal bowl games reinforces the predominant thinking in these parts that NCS was undervalued all year long

A lot of that had to do withPittsburg losing badly to Serra early in the year, and having to come from behind to beat Wilcox when they were without their starting RB.Not to mention Liberty not looking as strong as last year. So really mostly the BVAL being a little down. Pitt still made the NCS final losing to DLS. The Spartans, who are annually the best team in NorCal are an NCS team as well, so there's that

Agree Liberty wasn't as strong as last year but the only team they lost to was an NCS team. Pitt is actually a really good story because the team they had at the DLS 7x7 over the summer was near the bottom bad in comparison to all other teams. Hats off to their OC because their passing game improved measurably as the year went on.

Is it just me or is anyone else kind of disappointed that Milpitas is in a State Final. They started out the season 0-6 and not one of those games was close. They are one of the largest schools in the CCS and they got matched up with small schools in the playoffs.

Despite getting off to a slow start Wilcox beat Los Gatos 37-0 and believe me it could’ve been 70-0 if they didn’t call off the dogs in the 3rd quarter. They lost to Pittsburg in the 4th quarter on the road without their 2 best players.

Unless you can stop the veer, Wilcox could match up with anyone the last 2 years.

Totally agr

Good opportunity for NorCal. There were several mismatches, and it looks to be the same in the state finals. Would be interesting to see how they choose their matchups.
Some of the games will be blowouts. They won’t feel like state level competitive games.

It was only 23-0 after the 3rd. I don’t think they were getting to 70. That being said it was more about this board talking down the NCS to the point that Streak started to feel he had to justify his rankings to certain members

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the CCS playoff format is ridiculous when you consider that teams will advance to state playoffs. Los Gatos was, at best, the 8th best team in the section (btw, I left the LG-Milpitas game at halftime because it was so lopsided). Not that anyone is asking me, but I would identify the top 30 teams in the section and then have five 6-team divisions (top 2 seeds get 1st round byes) based on enrollment.
