Add in the fact that Nor Cal played on the road for 7 of these games ( with a bunch requiring significant travel) and Nor Cal over achieved based on percentages ( again).

The thing that stood out to me in the Sac games were the Nor Cal defenses. Nor cal teams held these teams considerably under their season averages for points scored:
-Camarillo held 35 points ( that's 5 TD's folks) under
-MV 19
-Narbonne 22
-San Marino 29
-CC 35

Maybe the So cal coaches value offense over defense and put more talent on that side of the ball. Who knows but the Nor Cal defensive performance in these bowl games have been noticable over ten years.

CIF did another good job of matching up teams based on ability.

Special shout out to the SJS for going 3-0 and for the Northern Section for going 2-0. They carried us this year.
The SJS carries Nor-Cal every year. If the format would have stayed the same the North would have won 3-2 this year. With that being said, the SJS won 2 of those 3 Nor-Cal wins.

Del Oro over Camarillo 16-13 (SJS)
Mission Viejo over Bellarmine 24-0 (SS)
Narbonne over Clayton Valley 28-24 (LACS)
Central Catholic over San Marino 56-21 (SJS)
De La Salle over Centennial Corona 28-21 (NCS)

*The SJS is a very strong Section for those that don't want to give it the credit it deserves. In my opinion it is the best Section in Cali most years.

What happpened to the St. Francis starting QB, Akina? St. Francis threw out a Sophomore to start the championship game against Citrus Hill. Before the game, St. Francis coach Greg Calcagno simply said Akina was "unavailable." I wonder if this was a disciplinary issue. What a precarious time to remove your seasoned starter in place for a Sophomore JV call-up. St. Francis should've won that game, I'm totally bummed.

Not sure where you are getting two Northern Section teams from - East Nicolas was our only NS team left standing after regionals but East Nic represented us very well.

Maybe you are thinking of St. Bernard's as another NS team since they are from up in Eureka. But in fact, SB is in the North Coast Section.

Excellent representation from our three SJS teams! Central Catholic was sort of a "gemme" but Sierra and especially Del Oro did very well!!! I don't disagree with your statement that SJS is the best section in representing the North. But to put it a bit in perspective, SJS only won 3 out of 7 games when competing with other teams in the North. But those three teams were very good.

Where I find myself very pleased with SJS teams in state bowls is how many times the SJS teams take out opponents that were expected to win easily. It seems SJS produces teams that improve better throughout the season and have more fire going into tough match ups.

Yes was not able to view the game, but reading recap in newspaper this morning I saw that a soph "Reed Vettel" was the starting QB for St. Francis. The 2-year starter at QB Kamali Akina was in street clothes on sideline & with Calcagno's comment of simply being "unavailable" it seems likely a disciplinary issue as Adam007 mentions above. If that is the case Akina must've robbed a 7-11 or sumthing to withold your starting QB from the state bowl game. Unfortunate the entire team was punished if that was the case.

After this year's results, the SJS is 12-7 in Bowl games. No other section in NorCal has a winning record.
Only the Southern Section has won more games (19-14), but the SJS has the better winning %.

Yeah, total let down for his team & school. SF has some very nice draw plays written up for Akina that would've been useful against Citrus Hill heavy rush. SF's athletic program has always had a zero tolerance for behavioral issues that misrepresents school and community. That game was easily theres.

You haven't been following Saint Francis very closely. Reed Vettel was not a JV Sophomore call up. He has been a Sophomore on varsity all year as Akina's back up. That should tell you something about how good this Kid is. He had a great game last night. I cannot see his overall stats because they have not been posted. But he was moving the team up and down the field on a few drives with his arm which included a 46 yard TD to Darius Thomas and a 26 Yd TD pass to Brandon Bains. I'm not sure if Akina could have done better or not but Reed Vettel did a really good job for a Sophomore who's his first start came in the state championship game.

Vettel's second touchdown pass was to #4, Bennett Williams - not #23 Bains. Williams had a great game. He's a Junior so he'll be back next year. That's good news for the Lancers.

Thanks, I read that off of maxpreps when I was looking for that stats. Yes, it is good news for the lancers.

You're right, I haven't been following St. Francis very closely, fortunately YOU HAVE.

So is habibi-Likio. Good pieces in place coming back next year. Hope they can replace their line.

It was probably not discipline considering Akina represented the team as a captain for the coin toss. St Francis is a run first team and Citrus Hill was stuffing the run all night. Number 4 went up and made some great grabs though.
