Omicron is really messing up college hoops, particularly in the northeast. Once it peaks in Nor Cal, I do not see how it doesnt jack up our high school seasons and cause all kinds of cancellations, inabilities to practice etc. and reek similar havoc on the high school season. Hope I am wrong, but I am not optimistic.

I've been wondering the same thing. Hoping it doesn't, but hard to see it really impacting college and not impacting HS.

I have heard of some Sacramento area teams getting hit and only being able to play with vaccinated players. Then it makes it tough to practice or play with only 5 players.

so why dont the other players get vaccinated? team over me
Bryce is vaccinated, caught covid again. Has not been with the team since Dec 22nd. Along with 3 other teammates...has not been able to practice etc...still not cleared. They are hoping for clearance on Friday and lace them up Sat vs USF...he will not be ready...this season has been a mess...vaccinated or not this Virus is causing big problems.

Yea, I would like for you to go and tell all these parents to vaccinate their kids. Coaches can’t tell parents (kids) to do anything medically. Nobody can for that matter. Coaches have already lost their jobs over Covid protocols. Family decision.

i mean, my parents trusted everything my coach said. i played hurt, i avoided surgery until the season was over. i wasnt allowed to let my team, school down.
they lost their jobs because they didnt follow protocol. getting the vaccine is one of them to play. they wouldnt lose their job over that.

Different Eras. These kids don’t play basketball outside anymore. Imagine not playing ball, because it’s going to be at a park. Parents and kids have 0 loyalty. If I don’t want the vaccine, I’ll transfer. If I don’t like what you coach, I’ll transfer. Different Eras, Coaches only control playing time now. If they don’t play a kid somebody else will. Vaccinated or not.

A lot of coaches have ruined players as well. Different eras but it's all on the individual. Some kids still play outdoor hoops but we also know the harm of outside hoop as well. Transfer is not always about the player. Sometimes it's the coach, the system, the culture, the institution. Find a place where you fit. Name one person who has the same job from 18 years old all the way through? In sports you have a limited time to play...the ball will stop bouncing one day.

Agreed, but like I said different era. Back in the day, you made the culture, you made the system. Too many damn parents telling kids “you don’t fit in that system”. Your not a big, your a PG. Etc.

Let me ask you a question,

Why was LA city so dominant for that many years with (Crenshaw, Dominguez, Fairfax, Westchester, etc.) ? Now all these southern section private schools are best in the nation?
Is it Sierra Canyons rich basketball tradition?
St. John Bosco has more school pride then multiplie state champ Crenshaw? (Just an example)

Absolutley Not! It’s because it has everything to do with OPPORTUNITY, nothing to do with LOYALTY. Kids leave the school for a different school because of the opportunity, not the loyalty. Has nothing to do with fitting in. Has to do with What’s best for me? Not what’s best for the team. THATS NOT ALL CASES. And it’s not only inner city schools transferring. All kids are looking for the better opportunity. If that means I leave this school after you coaching me for 2-3 season everyday, then that’s your problem not mine.

as a LA city kid... the demo has changed. the kids have changed. the adults have changed. times have changed. honestly parents have the opportunity to send their kid to all the new fancy schools and they take advantage. us 90s kid had it far worse and we had no choice but to stick it out. now they can leave Vermont, Florence, Slauson and Crenshaw Blvds and go to hoop factories and feel safe. I cannot be mad at that. I wouldnt want a child to see what i had to see daily just to get to school

Both of you have great points, discussions not arguments. So many factors to take into consideration. Today's climate is a beast, some good and some bad. I personally like some of it but not all.

I can name that in two notes! Serra's Rapp and Bellarmine's Schneider.

Hey Renard, good to hear from you. Hope the best for Bryce.
Some fun fact to pass along to him. We believe he has the all time high score for a single game In the history of the GIBT. That 44 point game was somthing folks still talk about.

Here's wishing you great hoops

Thank you, Bryce loves the City of San Diego, still adjusting to this new team. He has struggled with his role ( just being honest) but is flourishing in the classroom . He gets to travel down with the team but will not know if he is cleared until Friday. Crazy times we are living in. I heard the Invitational was great this year. Glad it came back full strength. You guys have to let Oakland Tech back in there ,Coach Hart does a great job. Wishing you a safe and healthy 2022🙏🏿
Thanks again for the well wishes for Bryce and sharing the memory.

Yes, Oak Tech were going to come last year, but Covid happened. I am always monitoring them, and the other Oal teams. It has been to long not to have a team from that league, come back to Gridley.

Here's wishing you great hoops
