Just for the sake of discussion, how do these two lists shape up as semi-final Open brackets in mid-March:

NorCal: SMS, Miramonte, Mitty, Pinewood.

SoCal: Mater Dei, LBP, Chaminade, Brea.

Thoughts?

I think everyone has SMS, Miramonte and Mitty 1,2,3 in NorCal with the 4th a wild card. The SoCal 4 looks on point IMO.

I know Pinewood is really good, but it kinda bothers me puting a D5 team in the open. Unless of course, they request it. But honestly as of now I would have them at #4 also.

I haven't seen Miramonte or Pinewood, oddly, though I've seen the other six. (Miramonte and Pinewood will be at Bentley Jan. 23 ...)

Mitty is very young, and I could see a postseason stumble to a veteran team, but otherwise that looks good. It's important for any team that hopes to beat SMS to avoid playing at SMS, though presumably the NorCal semis would be at Delta or somewhere similar. The finals will be at Sleep Train, which is less of an advantage for SMS, even though they've played there a lot.

As for SoCal, there are a lot of good teams just below that group, but that seems like the top four.

Of course, things can change. A key injury to a team without a lot of depth, for example. McClatchy is a good (and unfortunate) case as we speak.
