OR vs Folsom

Winner!
OR 44
Folsom 37
Tie for sfl champ and only loss by Folsom to SJS team this year
With this Folsom loss, any predictions if Folsom will make the NorCal Open division, or stay in Div. 1 for the NorCal playoffs? I assume it depends on what happens in the SJS Sections. Can Antelope in SJS D2 or Vanden in SJS D3 move up to the NorCal Open division if they win their SJS divisions?

I would guess the final two in SJS D1 will get moved to Open.

I’d like to see SJS have an Open Division. St. Mary’s
OR
Folsom
McClatchy
Laguna
Vanden
Antelope
Vista del Lago
Lincoln (Stockton)
Not necessarily in this order. They are easily double digit favorites over most of the section.

Oak Ridge did not really play all that well but Folsom performed well below expectation. Lots of Folsom “stars” performed below average and Oak Ridge were able to take advantage. Teagan Brown got a slow start but hit a couple of important shots and made steals just when Folsom looked like they might get rolling. The Oak Ridge bench is shallow but they were able to cover for the one starter who got in foul trouble. The cheer sections for each school were well represented

I didn't see the game, but I think Oak Ridge coach Stephen White has figured out how to play against Folsom. In three games this season against Folsom, they were all low scoring games: 46-32 loss, 42-37 loss, and 44-37 win. Having watched Folsom this season against other teams early in the season, Folsom's strategy was uptempo, fast breaks and excellent 3-pt. shooting, scoring 60-80+ points per game. Oak Ridge slows the game down and tries to make Folsom play to Oak Ridge's more deliberate tempo. It seems to work and stay in the game.

I agree! I think if there were a Sac-Joaquin Section Open Division those eight teams would be the top eight teams in the SJS. Also, by having an Open division, all eight should be guaranteed to move on in the NorCal playoffs. Being in Div. 1, Lincoln (Stockton) or McClatchy may not qualify for the NorCal playoffs because they may have to play against each other in round 2. In the SJS, if you don't win in round 2, you do not qualify for the CIF NorCal state playoffs, regardless of competitive equity. So in Div. 1, barring upsets, either the 4th seed vs. 5th seed in round 2 will get eliminated from the NorCals.

In Div. 1, Folsom, St. Mary's, Oak Ridge, and the winner of the McClatchy at Lincoln-Stockton matchup (my predicted matchup in round 2) should move on to the NorCals. Edison of Stockton also can surprise and upset a top seed.

In Div. 2, Antelope, Vista del Lago, Laguna Creek, and Del Oro should advance to NorCals. My prediction is Christian Brothers will play at Del Oro, but Del Oro is too strong for CBS. In Div. 3, Vanden will definitely advance to NorCals. Not sure which division Vanden will be placed in at the NorCal level.

I think the SJS does a disservice not having an Open division, possbily eliminating a couple good, strong Div. 1 teams from advancing to the State NorCal playoffs with their playoff format, while the CCS and NCS use an Open division. In the CCS and NCS, all open division teams will advance to the NorCals.

In the SJS only 23 teams can advance to the NorCals, broken down as:
D1 thru D5 = 4 teams, finalists and semi-finalists (total 20 teams)
D6 = 2 teams = finalists (total 2 teams)
Plus 1 "at-large" team according to highest MaxPreps ranking.

Totally agree.
I was at 2 of games and OR has def figured them out. Slow it down and limit shots/possession. It helps having one of the best players in norcal too. Brown is so good.
