Sequoia's matchup zone held Terra Nova to just one field goal over the first 20 minutes of their contest. As one observer was heard to state, "Drama? We don't got to show you no stinkin' drama." Sequoia's half court zone (it wasn't extended at any time during the ballgame) induced 31 turnovers in 32 minutes. TN simply could not find a way to crack it open. One of the Cherokees' guards, Alexis Jackson, produced 12 steals and another 12-15 tipped balls. She basically sealed off one side of the floor with her quickness, footwork, range and athletic anticipation. Quite a performance. South City, however, will be a much tougher challenge. The Warriors are a defending CCS Division III champion, well-prepared and thoroughly tested.

SSF, gutsy and tough, trailed by as many as 17 in the first half, then slowly clawed back into it to trail by 5 late in the final frame. But the Cherokees hit some key free throws down the stretch and managed to eke out a W for their first-ever PAL Tournament crown. Both teams should get reasonably high seeds at Wednesday's CCS seeding meeting. We shall see. SSF is in Division III, Sequoia is in Division I.
