Playoff Scoreboard (November 15-16)

The NCS cannibalizing their best teams is just stupid.

Meanwhile NCS teams that had half ass seasons still playing.

How about in the future if u win your 1st round games in the OPEN/D1 you automatically get a State play in game nomination.

Play the final 4 out so there is a 1-4 true seeding.

Then winner: NCS Open rep
2. D1 AA
3. D1 A
4. D2AA

Or maybe a level lower with each depending on who's coming out of the other Norcal sections.

But either way 4 should come out of the NCS Open.
San Marin in the Open? CN and MC in first round ? In the future the best place to be is 3rd place in league, with a 5-5 record.
Just like every school who doesn’t really give a damn what their program achieves. Small school high achievers WILL BE PUNISHED in the current system. Competitive equity is dead. When San Marin has to play DLS in playoffs, there is nothing CIF can say that competitive equity is working. What a bunch of bs.

All of these teams in NCS Open/D1 remaining should be moving on regardless of Friday's results.
I'm not saying this is Newman's best team but if you look at the pieces its def up there at least in the last 25 years.
Certainly, on defense it is. You legitimately have 4-5 kids who will play D1 in college. And SRV has had 1 bad game this year which happens to be against DLS.

Rain is going to make the game very interesting. SRV likes to throw the ball so that should play into Newman favor a little. The team that takes care of the ball will likely prevail. I would say 2 TD underdog at this point.

The last CN game vs. SRV I saw was way back in 2007 (I think), at the Oakland Coliseum for the NCS 3A championship. It was a great battle that SRV won. CN needed the win to go to SBG. Max Pond’s Senior season.

I’m hoping These tough struggles vs MC defense will help them against SRV. CN seems to have abandoned the pass game lately, and instead just brute force running. That will hopefully be an advantage in wet conditions. But rain is a double-edged sword, cuz DB’s can have trouble getting beat. At least the receiver’s know their routes. And a good qb can still throw a wet ball. I think it will be a tough game. Ball control and turnovers ( what else is new) may decide this one. interesting to see what happens, but I will start out with CN as 10 point underdogs.

Update: calpreps just came out with predictions. They have CN favored over SRV 21-20. So I’m gonna go with that now. 🤩

Great memory. I was trying to recall if CN had ever played SRV before. Max Pond was a great player. In fact in today's era with all the social media and camps he would have picked up some offers. He had elite speed and could play multiple positions. Nice to see what he's done at Sonoma.

Newman has a very good line. In fact they have what I would call a legit D1/Open type line where size will not be a factor for them. In other years this isn't the case and they would be absolutely overmatched. Not this year. The rain forecast keeps getting worse. 1+ inches on Friday. That soggy ball is going to be like a brick. Just a bummer for all these teams but field turf has made it much easier. I think SRV -10 sounds about right. Anybody know if Dave Cox YSN365 will be doing game?

Practice in Santa Rosa this week will be awful. Over 6” rain over 3 days, tues, wed, and thurs. 2.9” on tuesday alone. Looks like the atmospheric river is a direct hit in North Bay.

Update: heavy rain is wed, thur, fri. Not tues, wed thur.

The John Fitzgerald Memorial gym will be fully utilized! :)

Throwing a wet football is very problematic- even for "good" high school quarterbacks. Incumbent on teams to bring plenty of game balls- ballboys to do their job and officials to do a good job replacing balls.

So Wednesday practice in full rain, and bring in the ball boys for a ‘dry run.’ Team with the most dry towels wins.
