The time is now. Followers of the Crusaders' football program have been waiting for three years for this moment. The team is on the brink of a significant accomplishment. If it can defeat Los Gatos next weekend in the CCS Division I playoffs, it will then play for a section championship and a slot in the CIF NorCal playoffs. The Crusaders dismantled Soquel on Saturday. That followed big WCAL wins vs. Serra and St. Francis. Riordan is finally playing up to its talent level. That's a scary thought. The Riordan roster, though not especially deep, is bursting with big-time individual star power. Until now, it has clearly under-performed. But the outlook has turned brighter, mainly because the defense has been shored up and mistakes are being kept to a minimum. Crusader backers are on a high _ with fingers crossed.

With all that talent, Riordan is the last team I would want to play right now in the CCS playoffs…. They seem to have found their stride….

Should be a fantastic matchup with Los Gatos!….

Los Gatos did an excellent job defensively against a Serra offense that sputtered and malfunctioned throughout much of Saturday's contest in San Mateo. The inefficient Padres have been limited all year by a very mediocre passing attack and by penalties and turnovers at key moments. All of that was on full display vs. LG. Riordan is a different kettle of fish. LG is a clear underdog next Saturday. It will take a monumental effort to subdue the Crusaders. It's possible but seems unlikely.

Riordan should beat los Gatos

If they show up

Riordan has scored at least 27 points in every game this year but one (vchs game)

Los Gatos or any other ccs team won't stop them from scoring

The reason they have won 5 in a row is because they defense

Points given up the last 5 games

7 versus bell
13 vs mitty
14 vs Serra
17 vs st frances
7 vs soquel

The first 6 games they gave up

34 to Mack
42 to st bon
56 to Pitt
34 to schp
31 to sicp
31 to vchs

Shout out to coach Mitchell and the staff for correcting the defense and turning around the season for ar

I mean they got 17 D1 prospects eventually talent was going to prevail once they got the ship going in the right direction

Agree!…. They both Lost to PITT by similar margins and both beat Serra by similar margins with Los Gatos giving up less points and scoring less points in those games and Riordan the opposite….

Soquel is the other common opponent I know of with LG winning a close one and Riordan Blowing their doors off in the playoffs….

It will be a matchup of the Los Gatos Defense vs Riordan offense, can LG make plays on defense and slow Riordan down?….

Riordan has the Talent advantage and will be the clear favorite…. Looking forward to the game!….

If I do the Pick’em this week my pick will be Riordan…. 🤣

For the followers of Los Gatos football _ and there are a lot of them for sure _ this coming weekend's visit to Riordan will be instructive. They are accustomed to big, sprawling pubic school campuses, with scads of free parking, thousands of seats in shiny bleachers with safety handrails and disabled access on both sides of the field, clean restrooms with actual plumbing and flush toilets and a range of other fully expected amenities. They are in for a surprise on the cramped confines of the Riordan campus where a baseball infield oozes onto the gridiron in the southwest corner of the school's multi-purpose field. But we won't spoil their looming educational experience in gritty SF. Let's just advise the fans of the Wildcats to be prepared for some interesting novelties on Phelan Avenue. Oops. Sorry. That's another issue altogether.

On a historical note, Los Gatos High School was founded in 1887. It's one of the oldest public secondary schools in the Central Coast Section. Its traditions are impressive. Its architecture is classic. Heck, it looks like Andy Hardy was a graduate. The LG athletic program, overall, is at the very top of all public scools in the section. This is a class act that's heading for Riordan. Good times. The 'Cats fan base travels well.

Riordan is definitely beginning to run on all cylinders. Before Saturday, the most points Soquel’s defense allowed in a game was 14 , to SRV and Los Gatos. R scored 41 with over 450 yds of total offense. In Soquel’s last 7 games, their offense averaged 38 pts/game - R held them to 7 points and 154 total yards.

Gritty compared to SI, Marin Catholic, I’ll give that to ya 🤣 and those darn suburban public schools with their indoor plumbing and excessively large metal bleachers and generic stadiums!

I will give you Riordan has historically served the working/middle class areas of SF. Always has been racially diverse as well, even back in the 60s-70s when private schools were mainly white. Of course now in California most all schools are non majority white, and this includes many private schools too.

When’s the last time Los Gatos did not have a winning season? Good tradition down there in the land of range rovers, soccer moms, and sweater vests.

Wish the Crusaders well. Would love to see them make a deep run

What happened between 1904 and 1922?

I know we had WW1 between 1914 and 1918
Not easy finding high school football scores from over 100 years ago. Records are limited… also I believe there was a time period where Rugby was played instead of football which at the time looked very similar.
