This is admittedly speculation. But here goes. There might be a potential WCAL rival for Mitty basketball (finally) lurking on what was Phelan Avenue in San Francisco. Riordan began admitting girls when nearly Mercy shut its doors several years ago. If the Riordan administration and trustees desire, the girls' hoops program could mimic the boys' version. How? By focusing on transfers and the use of the school's dormitory wing. It's not rocket science. Just a couple of big-time kids can transform a hoops unit. Mitty can suction up scads of nice players but the Monarchs can play only five at a time. Frankly, seven or eight outstanding players are really all that's necessary. Riordan should be able to do that. The boys do it. Why not the girls? It's all a matter of priorities. Again, just spit-balling here.
