Rocklin 14, Folsom 28 - FINAL

They actually did go for it and converted on another quick wheel route.

2 plays later QB Jeffries breaks a read option play for a long gain but is stripped from behind but the ball goes out of bounds.

2 plays later Jeffries throws a TD pass from 7 yards out. Game is on ice.

28-14 Folsom with 1:43 remaining.

Turnovers killed Rocklin. 1 early pick 6 and a 15 pt swing on the fumble into the end zone. Folsom survives, but I like Elk Grove's chances should they play. Folsom's offense isn't that impressive and they can be run on.

Good game, though.
Lol you said Folsom was overrated prior to this game. You got beat like everyone else because we can control the clock at will.

Enjoy the long ride home.

Rocklin controlled the clock, and made some time consuming drives but their failure to score on their 1st second half possession really changed things. That and the early pick 6 was the game.
They couldn't control the clock in the second half and it killed them.

Folsom makes the best second half adjustments around.

Sad thing is, if Rocklin takes care of the ball on 2 plays, they win. That's the reality. Props to Folsom, they took advantage of the miscues and made them pay for it.

Isn't Rocklin the 40th ranked team in California and they're only beating them by 2 tds? Just making sure.

We beat Orange Lutheran (14th ranked) 41-3

We focus on wins not scores.

We control the clock. We get wins.

We also play in the toughest league in Norcal, as illustrated tonight.

Trinity.

Lol this guys funny. Bet they thought they coulda beaten us the two previous years before your coaches cried about not winning state.

Play someone in the top 25 more than one time in a season like we do on a consistent basis. You almost lost to poor mans de la salle.

The only poor man's school is DLS...

Concord...lolllllll. ghettoooooo!

All we do is win.

Trinity.

Trinity is ranked top 10 nationally (give or a take a few spots depending on which poll you pull up). That 5 point loss looks better than any of Folsom's wins this year so it's a little silly to bring that up. That being said the DLS vs Centennial/Bosco in the Open game this year should be a good one.

ouch that might just cost Rocklin the Game.

And it did.

Credit to Folsom, as they made better halftime adjustments. They didn't move the ball too well the 1st half (several 3 and outs) but found a go to play in the 2nd (WR screen) and that opened up some QB runs. Defensively, they were all over the inside runs that hurt them the 1st half and Rocklin refused to take enough shots down field or involve their stud 6'6 TE. There were several 3rd downs where Folsom really jumped the run and would have been vulnerable to a quick play action pass or pop pass but it never came. Again, Folsom's coaches made better adjustments and their kids executed. Still, it's really hard to overcome the key mistakes Rocklin made - which resulted in huge scoring swings. Good teams make you pay for it and Folsom did just that. Props to them.

Last thing I'll comment on is Folsom going for 4th and 3 from their own 35 late in the game. While it worked out for them in this game, and often does against inferior opponents, that type of hubris is exactly why they get blown out against really good teams (Grant 2010, 2011 and DLS 2012, 2013). It's just not a smart decision, especially when you have a capable defense and they do. If that ball gets tipped at the line or the WR drops it or the QB makes an inaccurate pass or the defense played it better, the opposition would have been setup nicely for the tying score.

As great of coaches as Richardson and Taylor are, it's apparent they still haven't learned situational decision making. I know Taylor claims that the odds are in their favor, which is why he typically refuses to punt. But it's just foolish to go for 4th and 5 from your own 20 against a quality opponent. That's exactly why I think Folsom will have trouble beating a PAC-5 champ, DLS or a legit OOS program. That's probably why they never schedule any.

I would say a DLS/Folsom game this year would be 65-14 DLS.

Rocklin had success running it and stringing together first downs. They controlled the clock. I'd imagine DLS would do the same but to a much larger degree and break off some longer runs.

Rocklin's defense has been a bit jeckyl and hyde this year. Awful against Oak Ridge, but really good against Del Oro and Woodcreek. It's helped that Boise commit Chase Hatada returned recently after missing the first 5 games. He makes a difference. From what I saw of Folsom's offense against the Thunder defense, and also against Del Oro the first half, I don't think Folsom could muster many points against the Spartans defense. They aren't explosive enough. Jeffries might hurt them with his legs, as many dual threat QB's do, but I don't think they'd be able to score enough points to make things interesting.

Best case scenario I see would be something like 35-14 DLS.

Folsom should take it as a sign of reverence that every time someone mentions their team, the U of DLS fans slither out and mention the Bulldogs with the best team money can recruit. The fact that the two teams are mentioned in the same breath - even though they will not play this year - is high praise indeed. Congrats Folsom on your success. Do not forget that Folsom is YOUNG. They graduated almost everyone and they just re-loaded. They are going to be good for years to come.

And Thunder, you forgot to mention that a single referee took 2 Folsom scores off the board tonight. Both clear touchdowns with Folsom receivers crossing the plane. No question. The game could have been over much earlier. But Rocklin was tough and played very good defensively. They are going to be good in playoffs. The SFL is tremendous.

I didn't forget to mention it because it didn't happen. The 4th down play that left Rocklin at the 1 foot line was certainly questionable, but not "clear" or "no question". Unless you were down on the field and looking down the goal line, you simply don't know. Furthermore, Folsom ended up scoring anyway after Rocklin had to punt a few plays later from their 3. Had the play been ruled a TD, Rocklin wouldn't have been pinned deep and likely would have ran the clock out meaning Folsom still would have ended the half with 13 points just as they did. So, no, it didn't have the same impact.

Enlighten me about the 2nd TD that supposedly was taken off the board.

BTW, I find it a bit curious that your screen name signed up 9 years ago but this is the very first message you ever posted -- a pro-Folsom one at that. Me thinks somebody has a few alternate handles they're using.

"...sign of reverence.." Primo, take it wherever and whenever it comes your way...... much the way one smiles when driving past a cop holding a radar gun or at a hooker who makes eye contact while you're sitting at a traffic light in the Tenderloin on the way out of town after a long day of work.......

So, you are saying Rocklin is "inferior competition" because Folsom went for it on 4th down? Dude, you are amazing....

Thunder- A lot of excuses about this game

How about saying, "Folsom was better. We lost."

That works...

I think Rocklin may surprise some folks in the playoffs -- they are solid. If they play in DII -- which I read they slated to -- I can see them running the table. With Hatada getting more integrated and finding his rhythm, maybe a few offense adjustments, we could see Rocklin playing for a Norcal DII championship -- with a shot at state!

crete, can always count on you to give me a chuckle. Thanks, I needed it on the tail end of a tough week!

I thought they played well last night.

Folsom is one of the best in NorCal at setting a game plan and adjusting accordingly in-game. That skill has been on display this year especially.

Credit also to Rocklin showing some fight in the second half of the year. The suspensions and loss to Whitney and then a poor showing at Oak Ridge could spiral a season.

How is Hatada playing? Was disappointed I missed him against OR.

Good call Streak. I had a feeling halftime adjustments would make the difference.

Hats off to Rocklin. They played great.

Better than DLS?

Doubtful

Our assistant coach has an okay record of 399-25....

I hope DLS(and Folsom, and all of the other NorCal teams) wins their SBG against Centennial or Bosco, but if you guys lose, man, you're gonna take some heat here.

Hey, call you can do is go down and give it all you got.

We still have a mountain to climb in Norcal. I personally feel we have over-achieved this season with the roster, and all the D1 guys we lost last year.

Playing on house money....
