Sac county Distance learning for the fall semester

At this point we knew it was coming and this is a best case scenario . Kick can down the road and wait to see if things improve/worsen.

If a vaccine is developed (crossing fingers!) which allows for a return to some sense of normalcy in January, how do you all think D-1 programs will handle their committed prospects? For a example, would a program like Syracuse allow/encourage/forbid a player like Lamson from playing Winter/Spring football?

It's a question that coaches are already discussing. I was talking to a college coach who was legitimately concerned about conditioning and rehabilitation for players participating in football in March-May who then need to almost immediately start Spring ball or Summer workouts. How will colleges react to a later season and will some risk losing players through injury or through de-commitment? Will players take the risks for school pride?

Obviously, this is putting the cart before the horse, but like I said, people are already thinking.

I say kids play. As much as I love lamson I don’t see him coming in early and competing for a the job day 1. It will be a process for him. Unless you are some 5 star can’t miss commit who is slated to start day 1 maybe that changes.

A lot of These kids will redshirt fresh year anyway. They need more reps not less.... We went from too much activity to not enough over night.

That's just horrible for the kids who are seniors and not college bound as players. Robbed of one of the best experiences of their lives.
I completely agree. My daughter lost most of her senior year of swim, but she still was able to play golf the previous Fall. She is looking at her younger teammates and seeing that they might lose entire SEASONS where she only lost a handful of meets. She quickly went from feeling sorry for herself to being heartbroken for them.

As for the kids that were on the bubble for the next level, the NCAA ought to do some rule tweaking and give them an extra year of eligibility at the college level. Give them six years to play five as long as one of the years is at a JC.

I was talking to a JC coach a couple weeks ago and the idea came up. It won't help every kid, but it could benefit the better kids on each team that might have had a shot at the next level. Basically, you take these kids in the class of 2020 who lost Spring sports, everyone in the class of 2021, and then phase it out over a couple years as the backlog of impacted players subsides.

I think its easier to gain a yr at the college level than to work it into a 5th yr at HS. I would love to see a Juco rule that allows for a greyshirt freshman yr and the kids get to play some type of modified season at the Juco level. For football, maybe a 4-6 game season or something similar to what colleges did back in the day with freshman squads. Think outside the box and find a solution that allows kids to be seen by college coaches and allows them to be integrated into the college system.
