I usually attend the Palma SI scrimmage. It starts at 9am and goes through 1pm. They will have it at Palma school (not at Rabobank where they play their games). The school field which they use for practice is artificial turf. It's nice. I went to SF last season. Always liked the SI campus.

Encinal, SPSV, Tennyson & Campolindo at Estuary Park in Alameda, 6pm, this Friday.

Love that Football is back!

Our scrimmage went well, all 4 teams have great coaching staffs and are fun to be around. Every team walked out with the same amount they walked in with and that's what is important. All 4 programs looked improved over last year at this same time.

MT doesn't appear as loaded as last year, seemed susceptible to pass, seemed to get beat deep a lot.

Some drop off for Monterey Trail is to be expected. Last year's team was the best in school history and it graduated all of its top skill players. The pre-league schedule should tell us a lot about the team. All five pre-league opponents made the playoffs last year. Most, if not all, should be as good or better in 2019.

Northern Section starts a week later. East Nicolaus is scrimmaging @ Sutter tomorrow morning.

Palo Alto at Burlingame Friday night:

Very small rosters. Both varsities came in with 25 guys in uniform. Not clear how many players were hurt or ineligible at this point. (JV/frosh-soph units had 50 apiece).
Burlingame veteran offense very sharp. Deceptive, crisp wing-T. Small but quick linemen. Nice skill kids. Paly bigger but did not handle Panthers' offense well defensively. Burlingame defense small but quick. Did a reasonable job vs. Paly offense.

Update Saturday: Paly lists 54 on varsity, Burlingame 31. Paly may have split its squad in order to play in another scrimmage; it has one scheduled Sunday at 1 p.m. with SI (via WCAL website so it may be Saturday). In retrospect, it wasn't clear if Paly played its starters Friday; no numbers on jerseys. Let's just state that Friday's affair was inconclusive at best in light of additional info.
