SHC Beat Riordan 38-0

I got SHC winning by 2 or more scores

If SH wins by 28 or more, there needs to be another change on Phelan. Essentially Riordan football the last 10 years, aside from that 1 season, has.... GULP... become what SH football was, the doormat, the easy win, the bottom feeders, the joke of the WCAL.

Heres hoping for a close competitive game tonight at Kezar.

10 years is a decent sample size. If we go back 10 years for both schools, Riordan has had just one season where it had more than 1 league win (2015).
2018- (0-4 currently)
2017- (1-6)
2016- (0-7)
2015- (4-3)
2014- (1-6)
2013- (1-6)
2012- (0-7)
2011- (0-7)
2010- (1-6)
2009- (0-7)
2008- (1-5-1)

SH in the same period, 1 above .500 record in league which is miraculous to even think about it and a bunch of 0 and 1 win seasons where the win was usually against Riordan or vice versa for the school's 1 league win.
2018- (2-2 currently)
2017- (3-4)
2016- (1-6)
2015- (0-7)
2014- (0-7)
2013- (0-7)
2012- (1-6)
2011- (2-5)
2010- (1-6)
2009- (1-6)
2008- (4-3)

So it appears there is a turnaround happening at SH with MacLaughlin at the helm. If SH has seasons like this year and last year for 3 more years, you can make the argument that SH is a decent football program. Are they going to contend for WCAL league titles? Probably not. Cannot say the same for Riordan as 9 out of 10 years where its 0 or 1 win. There needs to be new blood at Phelan or this is going to be the same thing for the next 10 years.

SHC Frosh won 33-21.

SH star running back is out due to concussion protocol....so some offensive power gone for this game...but we have been good enough to be beat Riordan for most of the decade. Don't forget how many posters here from Riordan talked a lot of crap about SHC. Remember, "We have all the players comments, and We don't have a field and we only have a sidewalk, etc"

LeVar Watkins has a TD via interception return, reception, and rushing. I'd like to see him score 3 more times via kickoff return, punt return, and fumble recovery. He can likely do it because just watching this game, these Riordan kids DO NOT CARE. Its a shame, this was once a proud program that used to lay the wood to SH year after year.

True. I go back to Nixon years and heard it all then too. Irish lead at the half 35-0.

Irish WIN 38-0. First shutout since October 26, 1974 that Sacred Heart won 13-0 at original Kezar Stadium in front of 3500 fans. Game was broadcast on KALW. Go Irish!

Irish have a good thing going. Really impressed wit he kids swagger and confidence. Starts with the coach and kids buying in. Talent even on both sides. Irish well coached and kids don’t stop until the whistle is blown. Congrats

Zach Tapel has done a great job with the defense. Better than I expected.

Good heavens. The Riordan football program is in tatters. Remedial solutions are in order for sure.

Great to see some of the backups play a good number of snaps. Those kids show up everyday and normally don’t see any playing time. Great job again by the Irish. Has there ever been a time where they pitched back to back shutouts in league play?

I was particularly looking forward to more punts by Riordan as the game went on. The first two snaps from the long snapper sailed over the head of the punter and somehow he was able to get the punt off and the ball ended up right about where the down started. It was comical to say the least. It’s also disheartening. This type of play doesn’t breed future years of competitiveness. No kid or parent of a kid wants to play around a team with such lack of effort. There needs to be a change.

Defensively, even with a running clock much of the time in WCAL action, Riordan is allowing more than 40 points per game. The offense is dysfunctional, ineffective, prone to errors, turnovers and penalties and so out of sync it's stunning. As for special teams, it's even worse. With two league games remaining, let's hope the Crusaders can somehow survive this nightmare and finish out the season without a total implosion. But it could be a very close call.

The very last time SHC recorded back-to-back shutouts was in 2002 vs. Moreau and Tennyson. In league play, the last time was vs. Mission and Polytechnic in 1968 in the AAA. This was the first time during WCAL play. They did it in 1946 vs. Mission and Balboa. Balboa & Mission again in 1931 (both scoreless ties); in the SFAL in 1925 vs. Mission, Galileo and SI. Commerce and SI in 1923 and SI again to start the 1924 SFAL season.

Riordan has one WCAL victory in three years. The situation has gotten progressively worse each year. Something has to give. And fairly soon.

IS there a solution as to the Riordan situation other than rotating coaches?

It cannot be rotating coaches. Riordan's administration has to make a decision: Is football an important part of the school's marketing/enrollment strategy or not? If it is, then an experienced, full-time, committed head football coach (and a solid staff from varsity on down to the frosh) needs to be found _ and paid. If it isn't, well, then all bets are off. Riordan football will continue to be a quasi-AAA program without direction or a cohesive plan.

All the best my brother. Hoping Bryce and Jelani bring a league title back to Phelan.
That would be Frida Kahlo Way, Lol! Hangin with my SHC peeps last night. Really happy Football is on the upswing considering all the transfers out of athletics over past few years.
