Hands down Mason Forbes was best player in event..The kid was athletic skillled quick off the ground and a rim protector. Will be a high major..Folsom looked pretty good...

Burbank will also be a problem for alot of teams ..Super athletic and balance and experienced.

Vanden also will be a major factor in D2..Shackleford kid went for 20 plus against Capital and almost willed them to comeback win against Folsom.

Clayton Valley looks to finally make some noise in hoops.
Freedom looks really good now..Got a experienced team..Lack of size and rebounding will be concern.

What I did observe is alot of young teams that were talented but inexperienced...Sac high El Cerrito Grant woodcreek Sheldon.

Last note..Folsom won the event ..but BUTT Head move goes to their head coach..They beat a D6 team listed score 95-15 but someone said score was well over 100pts..They said coach wanted the #1 seed in bracket play which he got..Congrats ...oh by the way that team didnt comeback the next day...Great JOB COACH

BOF. Great observations of the tournament.. Platinum Division was great this year, although the seedlings are skewed because of games like Folsoms. Teams that played their bench players down the stretch and didn't get the point differential received lower seeds than they should have,,i.e. Woodcreek and Sheldon. Some human element should be considered in seeding. Folsom looked very good and had many of their play sets in place. Woodcreek will be a very tough out with their guard play and return of Jordan Brown. Burbank is extremely athletic, as is Capital Christian. If CC's team stays intact they will probably have the tallest lineup in Nor Cal and possibly the state. Vanden also looked good and beat CC. Jesuit looks a bit down, Grant athletic, Sheldon/Sac/El Cerrito young. It's too bad several teams did not show up for games on Sunday. Overall a great weekend of games

I was at the Folsom Esparto game. Folsom stopped pressing after 10 minutes in the first half. I would say Folsom's 9-14 guys played 25 minutes of the 40 minute game. The starting lineup played 4 minutes in the second half. Esparto also replaced a team that dropped out of the tournament the day before.

WHY BLAME Folsom for Esparto being that bad and a lot is said about the Esparto coach who does not show up the next day. Perhaps the Esparto coach is why they are getting beat by touchdowns.

Tourney organizers need to change the format going forward. Have a top 35 team pools and bottom and play tourney from that. Far too many 30+ point massacres in pool play this weekend. Both the winners and losers get nothing good out of games like that.

I agree with that

My Take ,

Folsom is going to have another great season in D1. Mason Forbes has come into his own, and its good to see. Great Kid!

Burbank with there up tempo play should give teams fits...might not lose a game in the Metro League this year, as long as their top players stay eligible throughout the season

Vanden should be a good D2 team this Year, Clayton Valley had a great tournament, however they were taken down By Cosumnes Oaks in Pool Play I believe. Based on what I saw this weekend, Cosumnes Oaks may make a deep run in D2 also, Guards are quick, and share the ball. Pay attention to the Guard tandem of Greg Milton and Brandon Gray, was impressed by their floor speed. should have a better season this year

Sac High and El Cerrito look to have a down year, They will still be good, but probably wont make a lot of noise

Sheldon and Jesuit will be spending a lot of time beating up on each other in league, but, again, Folsom will rise to the top.

Not sure what to say about Capital Christian at this point, They are huge, but they are beatable. Too many unskilled bigs and not enough good guard play makes for a disaster on the big stage. They didn't have Zac Chappell this weekend, but I'm not sure that would have made much difference. they have the pieces, but they have a long way to go to make the puzzle.

Del Oro Looks to be tough this year with 64' Stone Smartt and a host of other offensive weapons, they may be a big surprise this year!

Overall, we don't have the Fords, The Blackwells, The Youngs, But it will be great to see who takes that torch in the upcoming season.

Ovo sheldon and jesuit beating each other will have nothing to do with Folsom rising to the top as they are in different leagues. . Folsom will have to worry about Woodcreek who i think will be the best team in SFL.

I have to agree on the format. Sunday is great with the tournaments, however, the other four games can be very lopsided. At least 2 of the games are awful and embarrassing. Putting half of the teams in an "A" group and the other half in a "B" division would make the games more equitable and all of the games would be exciting.

Your school doesn't get better by winning by 50 pts , they actually regress. THe BRONZE bracket was fun for most of the kids on Sunday. The first two days it was embarrassing to watch elite teams beat up teams that couldn't beat JV teams.

Agree with you about Forbes and Folsom. My kids just finished with coach walls camp and Forbes helped out as do a lot of the players. Just a great kid first of all. He's a legit 6"8 right now. With his frame and features I would say 6"9-6"10 is not out of question. He will be a lot higher recruit than many of us thought. Folsom has a lot of kids that are 6"2-6"4 on the roster next year and will be more athletic than in the past. Woodcreek and Folsom will battle.

The addition of the two kids from country day will help. But wait folsom only has home grown kids. LOL.
