Wow! Lincoln of Stockton surprised me tonight with guns blazing in a shootout with Tracy. Problem was Tracy ran out of bullets. Late fumble by Tracy that Lincoln turned into a score sealed the game for the Trojans of Stockton. Squeaking by the other TCAL teams and with a sound victory over Tracy, Lincoln will now host next week's game vs St. Mary's for the TCAL championship with both teams undefeated in league. It doesn't get any better than this.
Lincoln-Stockton has not beaten St. Mary's-Stockton in years, since 2005 (11 straight losses). Could this be the year the Trojans find redemption? Will St. Mary's lose and fall back into D2 for playoffs? Or will the streak continue and St. Mary's find themselves competing again in D1 for playoffs (since last won SJS D1 section in 2008)? We will find out next week on 11/06/15. If this game is not by chance NorCal Pick'ems Game of the Week for Week 10, it definitely belongs on the list.
Both St. Mary's and Lincoln bring a ton of offense to the field. St. Mary's defense which was questionable early on, has improved relative to its TCAL competition outscoring its TCAL opponents by an average of 30.25 points per game. Lincoln, although defeating Tracy by the same margin (21) St. Mary's did, has only outscored it TCAL opponents by an average of 8.5 points per game with the Tracy game attributing to increasing this average (before Tracy game it was 4.3 points per game). Lincoln definitely has turned it up with their win vs Tracy and appear amped up and eager to host the Rams for redemption on their home field. St. Mary's on the other hand started it's game tonight vs Lodi very flat (similar to games early on in the season). But, eventually, St. Mary's overwhelmed the TCAL last place Lodi Flames. This game between Lincoln and St. Mary's is always a heated rivalry. I believe Lincoln will be ready for this game. I challenge my Rams to step it up and be even more ready and go into this game with anticipation that the Trojans will be giving all they have. The Rams should not overlook the Trojans despite the winning streak and dominance it has had recently over the Trojans. This will not be an easy game! Lincoln does have weapons on offense. St. Mary's will not be able to afford to make mistakes like they did tonight early on versus Lodi. Spanos Stadium will be rocking on 11/06/15. Stay tuned!
Note: Central Catholic vs Oakdale probably deserves the Game of the Week honors IMHO, both undefeated battling for the VOL league championship.
