Nice lineup once again. Hopefully they’ll be able to pull it off this year with all of the issues involved.

I'm glad to see St Mary's High School keeping this going. The girls that have played there since this SMS MLK classic started have as much right to keep this tournament alive as the former coach. I think they can both do it and be successful. You will have the St Mary's MLK classic played at St Mary's High School.
Then the Tom Gonsalves MLK Classic played at Lincoln High School this year. From what I understand they both will have a nice lineup. Happy for the SMS players that they are seeing the continued commitment to their girls hoop program.

The event I referred to is at St Mary’s.

There is no event at Lincoln

It will be interesting to see if schools allow teams to travel at that point. That's a big issue for us at the Jamboree -- even if there's a season, school boards may be super cautious and prohibit trips that require an overnight stay.

Keep hope alive. Great news on the vaccine level

And also in the antibody focused based treatment method.

I think we may have something soon and I think the antibody method is faster and safer than a vaccine. In the antibody method the antibody is already there where as the vaccine helps your body create antibodies. At this stage either will be a blessing.

Weak list compared to last MLK

Besides New Hope, and Centennial there isn't much differences. Pinewood fills one of those voids as Pinewood with the returnees they have plus the new guard should be in th CCS championship game again this year and probably make NorCal open. It's very close and there is still more time to fill in teams. If it wasnt for COVID-19 there may even be more participants. I don't expect Miramonte to come as they will probably go with Tom's event. There is enough food at the table for everybody.

I heard that La Jolla Country Day team was pretty good ...

LJCD was darn good. But I didn't see them on that actually list but it appears that means it wasn't streamed. With Covid-19 there is definitely gonna be some drop off but considering what SMS is going through I think they put a good roster together this far.

That is a good list, as it's hard to make any high-level tournament happen. And it will be harder this year, as even if coaches agree, in most states, public schools must receive school board permission to travel, and even private schools will be wondering if it makes sense.

I'm also curious how many parents decide not to let their children play team sports -- if not for the sake of the children, then for the sake of older adults who they may come in contact with.

Will they test at the event...
If they don’t test...rapid test everyday
I don’t see how parents send kids

La Jolla Country Day, the No. 1 team in the country, played on Monday.

Please post a screenshot where he said it would be at Lincoln? I have yet to hear Tom say where he's holding this event.

Follow his Twitter. It looks like he deleted the references to Lincoln but when this all happened he tweeted that it would be at Lincoln High school. He also said if he accepts another head coaching job the event will automatically shift to that location. Sounded to me like he was using it for leverage on the lincoln coaching position because they have a good girls team. He is definitely holding an event but he deleted the references to Lincoln

I just find it hard the have all these high-level teams he is claiming to committed to attend his MLK event without having a venue secured. I am sure that's one of the first questions these other schools and coaches are asking him - "where is the event going to be Tom?"

With all the drama and way he has acted going out the door, tom is coming off desperate and quite frankly senile. If I am the coach of another top program I wouldn't feel too good about committing to Toms event with the cloud hanging over him and whether or not it will actually happen. Those are multiple contacts a team would then be scrambling to make up for it toms event fall through.

Sounds like the event is too big of a money maker for tom to miss out on, so I am sure he is doing all he can to secure a venue and maybe already has one. If he does have one, the other coaches/schools surely know and I'm not sure of the advantage of holding out from telling the general public where his event will be held.

Honestly, as a fan of the game and especially high school hoops, I genuinely hope he has it and would love to know where this will be held.

Lincoln has a coach, and I believed he actually played for Tom and/or assisted for him at one point. Dn't think he's looking at Lincoln..someone on here said Bear River?

Ive said same thing many times. In all honesty for all these people using the mlk name and weekend to hold an event and pad their personal pockets & athletic dept/program budgets, what r they doin to give back in mlk’s name? Inquiring minds would like to know.?

did you directly ask tom? it's not what he put on his twitter page...

He removed all references to a venue from his Twitter but he is still holding on to the fact it will be in Stockton. But with Tom who knows if it is true. Why would he have to hold off on announcing the event. Will the money be worth it now that he will have to actually pay for the venue and the workers? Questions questions questions.

Chris Roemer, the coach at Lincoln, worked with Tom on the last couple MLK events. It would certainly make sense that Lincoln would be a landing spot, assuming the administration would go along with the proposed structure of the event (accounting, etc.).

As for signing up for an event without a certain venue, that's not an issue. Gyms are available, and always will be, as they are rentable. Coaches are much, much more concerned with who they will play rather than where they will play.

And this year, of course, travel is a major issue. It may be difficult for teams to get permission to stay overnight to participate in any event.

Ask Tom if Chris Roemer is working with him? Could help to understand the why behind the twitter rants!

It doesn't look like they are working together now. There is a reason Tom removed all references to Lincoln. The way it looked to me was that he was trying to use his MLK tournament connections as leverage at Lincoln. The post where he said the tournament is at Lincoln but if he takes another job the tournament will go with him summed it all up in my eyes. That was basically saying do what I want or I take the tournament. From the outside looking in it definitely looked like he was trying to lobby for some type of positioning in that program or something.

St Mary's MLK Showcase for last event in 2020 earlier this year. @straightline50 was correct about La Jolla. They played at the Bishop O'Dowd MLK Showcase in Oakland, not St Mary's in Stockton.

Earlier this year line up

So far the SMS administration has done a great job of composing a lineup for 2021 considering what SMS is going through. I can't wait to see the final line up for 2021
