This was the worst in perhaps 40 years. Notre Dame humiliated the Cardinal by 49 points Thursday and it could have been much more glaring. Stanford simply does not have anything close to the talent it once possessed. The program, now in the hands of Kate Paye, a former Stanford player and an ex-Menlo School standout, reached an unfortunate nadir this week. Paye is faced with a big rebuilding job for a one-time signature West Coast women's program. Ouch.

They have a highly ranked recruiting class and will bring back point guard Talana Lepolo, who essentially took a redshirt year because of some lingering knee issues.

That said, the roster will be young and not that deep next year.

Lepolo returning will definitely help! She's a stud! and a straight winner!

Because of a glaring lack of team quickness and athleticism, Stanford has been reduced to a slow, plodding halfcourt team that cannot compete at anything close to a high level. Considering the huge talent gap, Kate Paye and her staff have done a reasonably good job of patching together an offense and defense to mask their issues. Too bad even a reduced playbook can't generate much in the win column. Her players are simply unable to execute even when opportunities exist. The loss today at Louisville drops the Cardinal record to 11-12, its worst at this point in a season in two generations. Thank goodness for Cal.

Obviously, your favorite Colonel has not been clear. The Stanford program has not had a losing season in 40 years. Further, Stanford has been in the NCAA tourney 37 times, with three titles and 27 league championships. Comparing it to Cal is apples and oranges when you look at the big picture. Cal has never been a consistent national power. When Notre Dame routs Cal, few raise an eyebrow. When Stanford gets hammered (by anyone), it's something else.

Stanford needs to accept more transfers. The school has always had a policy of not accepting any transfers, athletic or otherwise. With the portal now in play, that has to change dramatically.

I learned a new word today! Nadir!

My vocabulary being expanded because of NCP! Nice!

The ouch is thinking Mitty has more than just the 1 superstar that will make a difference on a top 5 team..IMO
Not sure if there is more than one Mitty player who will be an impact high major player, but they need to stop last year's trend of the top players going to UCONN and Texas.

While Cal looks like a lock for the tournament. The Bears play Virginia at 2 pm today on the ACC Network.

Kate Paye has a monumental task in front of her. The list of 2025 senior preps eligible for admission to Stanford is short. The vast majority of outstanding recruits is off the table for her. The transfer portal, so far, has not been helpful for the Cardinal at all. NIL cash could become a positive factor. Emphasis on the word "could." So far, no. Then there is the ACC. Combine the brutal travel with the South's fertile recruiting territory that's pretty much MIA for Stanford and you have a formula for failure. Tara retired just in time.
