Re: Fastest in WCAL this Year?
The final results from the CA state high school track & field meet are in and as usual SoCal schools dominated in most events.
I'll cover some of the WCAL highlights from the preliminaries and where they ended up in the final heats and results.
Bellarmine's 4x100 team broke their school record for the 2nd time in 2 weeks in the prelims - which it set in last weeks CCS finals at 41.58. The team was hoping to improve yet again in the state meet in order to compete and possibly place in the top 3.
Bellarmine's team consisted of Taylor Njaka, Aaron Chapman, Nikolai Makarov & dual sport star Joey Sanfilippo.
Speaking of Sanfilippo the fastest sprinter in the WCAL, he also qualified for the finals in the 100 meters with a blazing time of 10.66 which is among the state's faster times and fastest the WCAL has seen in a number of years.
Bell's Jaylen Wright also advanced in the 110 High Hurdles with a time of 14.12.
Serra's Jon Beering who broke a long standing school record in the shot put advanced with a throw of 57'9".
St, Francis Marc Toney was one of 12 pole vaulters to advance with all 12 clearing 15'.5.75".
First of all to even make the state preliminaries from the CCS you have to be an outstanding athlete with exceptional marks.
Most of the CCS athletes do not make it to the state meet and the majority of those who do qualify are quickly eliminated.
Here are some great local performers who did not advance with the state's elite in their events:
St. Francis 400-relay [42.70], Lampkin of SHC in 400 Meters [49.10], Sanfilippo of Bellarmine in 200 meters [22.13],
Wong of Mitty in Long Jump [22'6"], Khalil Johnson of St. Francis in Long Jump 21'6"], Stofer of Bellarmine in Pole Vault at 14'6", Wong of Mitty in triple jump at 41'6".
State Finals Results in next post Monday 6/3/13.
