Why does the WCAL have playoffs?

IMO. They should have a playoff. Now its just a tournament. Up until mid 1990s, only the Top 4 teams made it to playoffs. Back in the 1970s, the team that finished 1st at end of league season had to be beaten twice. Now with "everybody gets a trophy", the league season doesn't really matter (particularly for historically second division teams) and there's the possibility of co-champs. Each game used to mean something. Now, its just get to the tournament, and figure out what game even the sub par teams will throw their ace. Again, in my opinion it should just be Top 4. Again, I come from an era where only the Top 4 made playoffs and you had to win the championship on the field to qualify for CCS. It wasn't until 1980 that both teams that played in championship game qualified for CCS. It was kind of a life lesion, if you won you played on, if you didn't your season was over.
