Salesian wins a grinder

After losing this matchup at the 2015 WCJ, Salesian (6-3) beat Sacramento (5-5) 48-39 behind a key third quarter run. Trailing 21-20 early in the second half, the Pride went on a 12-1 run to take control of the first round matchup. 10 of the 12 points came from Sierra Smith (who was scoreless in the first half) and Angel Jackson. Salesian won the third quarter 23-8.

The Dragons closed it to four points in the fourth quarter, but their win streak ended at four. They held Salesian without points for almost four minutes as part of a 12-2 run.

Salesian put two players in double figures with Sydney Stewart (16) and Jackson (15). Smith ended with eight points. The Pride relied on points in the paint and free throw lines. They had a single field goal in the second quarter (only made three pointer in the game) and two field goals in the fourth quarter.

17 of their 48 points came from the charity stripe. It is the sixth game the Pride has made double digit free throws.

Sacramento was balanced among its top three scorers with Andriana Avent posting 12 points. RyAnne Walters and Maya Lawrence each had 10 points. Sasha Brown had four points off the bench. Four of the six players who scored for the Dragons are sophomores.

The Dragons are averaging 47.4 points per game in their five losses this year. They have 10 quarters this year of single digit point outputs but are coming off a strong defensive showing at the Nike TOC in giving up 34 points per game.
