Kaepernick

I'm beginning to think you are right. I was rooting for him but it doesn't seem like its going to click. Niners might be lucky to win 4 games this year. They are awful.

I called this from the very beginning. When the football world was enamored with this guy during the Niners Super Bowl run a few years ago, I saw a guy that couldn't read a defense, consistently locked on to his first target, and relied upon his feet too much. Nobody had the book on Kaepernick since he didn't play the 1st half of that year and, like the "Wildcat" before it, defenses took a bit of time to adjust to the read option. I predicted that with a full offseason to prepare and take away the things he does well, defenses would figure him out and he'd struggle. That's precisely what has happened since. My Niner fan friends told me I was crazy. Now they want him tarred and feathered. Good luck with that enormous contract.

Some will make the claim that Kaepernick took the Niners farther than Alex Smith did. While technically true, Alex Smith wasn't the reason the Niners failed to reach the SB the year before. If Kyle Williams didn't muff the punt at the end of that game against the Giants, that team would have been in the big game against the Patriots. May not have won, but would have advanced just as far with a different QB. Both QB's were carried by that suffocating defense and the physical rush attack led by the o-line and Frank Gore. Kaep made lots of jaw dropping plays because defenses didn't know how to attack him just yet and that's what some fans remember. As pedestrian as Alex Smith might be, he's still a better passer than Kaep.

Not too late for Kaep to start a baseball career. The way his contract is structured he might have the opportunity sooner rather than later.

Good 'ol Snickadoodle........
He strikes me as someone who simply doesn't study the "craft" of being an NFL QB, and as such has failed to pick up nuances such as looking off defenders, checking off at the line of scrimmage, and most importantly he doesn't seem to recognize coverages.5th year in the league; that's inexcusable

One of the worst offensive lines in the NFL and you get one of the worst QB's in the NFL...

Give him a solid offensive line and see what he can do...

It is no secret that his best games/seasons came with a solid offensive line. I am not ready to jump ship.

Good point about the OL, fair enough. But after 5 years in the league I'm not seeing enough.

5 years in the league. 3 NFC championships. 1 Super Bowl PLAY away. I am not ready to jump ship on KAP yet and he is better than Alex Smith who btw is a pedestrian 135 yards passing tonight... We will get a great comparison by next week.

Agree O line is horrible. But 5 years in the league and he has regressed. The guy can't read a defense, locks onto a receiver, doesn't check down and has bad mechanics (how many back foot throws did he have Sunday)? 49ers are in big trouble. I'm with Thunder on this.

Super Bowl appearance and NFC titles were a result of Frank Gore, O line and and outstanding defense. All he he had to do is not fu&k things up. Minus the GB playoff game he hasn't taken over a game and lead them to anything.

I'm over Kaep but sadly Blaine Gabbert is worse. Unless the NIners go 1-15 with a shot at Goff, they're stuck with Kaep the rest of this year and the foreseeable future.

Hey Boss, you may want to set the bar a little higher than Alex Smith! ; > )

Forget the QB for a minute, let's rememeber that the Niners won alot of games because of their defense! That is what gave them those runs in the playoffs. The secondary is garbage. If you have a big receiver and a decent qb its pretty much over. GB and Rogers will torch us regardless of what Kap does.

True, but it doesn't help a already bad defense when your QB spots the other team 14 points himself and puts that defense right back on the field with 2 more picks. At least sustain a few drives so you can keep said crappy defense off the field for a bit. Rodgers will torch them either way, but don't give him any extra possessions to do it.

I think we are overreacting here. Kap had the worst game of his career last game. I think everyone knows that. Let's see how he does against GB and go from there. Remember, in the first game against the Vikings he looked good. He was going through his progressions and throwing the ball on a dime. Has that much changed in 2 weeks? Doubtful. Let's hang in there for a bit before we crucify the guy.

I gave Kap the benefit of the doubt for a long time, always hoping he would pull it together. Sadly, he hasn't and I am ready to jump ship.

Kap's strength is his ability to run. That new large contract has curtailed his running days and thus taken his greatest asset away from him. The days of Steve Young are over. Management wants him protected as best possilbe to protect that investment. No RG3 here....That and Jed York, another Jerry Jones....

People forget that it is/was Trent Baalke's arrogance/attitude that drove people out of town. He wanted it his way. Well buddy, you got it your way. I hope you are happy.

Baalke and York need to go...

I'm not a Dallas fan, but calling Jed another Jerry Jones doesn't make sense. Jerry Jones played major college football. Jed played HS baseball. Daniel Snyder would be the better analogy. Except that he made his own money.

49ers are like beating a Dead Horse at this point. Sad state of affairs for my team that was once great! We will rise again...not under current leadership. I just can't support a team that has a spoiled kid running my team. If I go to any football games it will be high school, college, and Raiders. You got to hurt billionaires where they can feel the most and that is in the pocket before there is change.

HA that's pretty accurate. Jed and the Yorks are, and have always been, the biggest problem since Eddie was out of the picture. The sad part is that with the value of NFL franchises and the amount of money NFL teams make now, the Yorks will never ever sell the franchise.

Jed Dork and Trent Baalke are POW's. Pieces of work!

Some of this mess was predictable to degree years ago. I had to look it up to refresh my memory & quickly remembered the agony I felt over the York's actions. Jed had worked only 1-year on his only real job when he quit [or was fired] and parents decided to "bring him into the 49er fold at that time" at age of 23 with a variety of glossy high profile titles which were essentially meaningless. The parents Deniece and Dr. York were loathed by the bay area 49er fans for making one obvious blunder after another [and I am being kind]. At age 27 with no accomplishments to date the parents gave 27 year old Jed "owner & CEO" status of his own NFL franchise. And to date there are still fans who cannot figure why he makes ridiculous statements and decisions directing an NFL franshise worth hundreds of millions $$$$. Jed in his next life will have to actually work like the rest of us. Not all the blame is on the players.

Niners are worth more than a billion dollars now. This dude couldn't even run a Subway sandwich shop.

Hey just a dog-gone minute G61 as I take offense to that statement! My youngest son worked at Subway his senior year in HS and was required to know the cold-cuts, specifically the baloney from the salami. That being said I hear that Jed has a degree in baloney, similar to his being team captain of the baseball team at the ultra rich HS he attended.

All kidding aside the York/Debartolo history is interesting to say the least. The family is among the "ultra-rich" in America and def among the 1% with grandpa giving several of his grandkids pro-sports teams as gifts. Wikipedia says at one time the Debartolo's owned 10% of all the shopping centers in the U.S. so there is little any of us can relate to their lifestyle. Hard to say if Jed will ever really be successful or at least recognized as successful for anything he does due to his family's means
[and I thought I had it tough, jeez!]....

If River Boat Eddie hadn't gotten caught with his hand in the "politician cookie jar" he would still be at the helm of the 49ers.

Tough to convince me that we wouldn't have 2 more Superbowls if this weren't the case.

I agree to a point with Eddie D. However the landscape of the game (free agency) has changed since he was in charge. Totally different game, but you know damn well Eddie would have the teams best interest in winning.

I think Eddie would have done his best to keep the team in the city. Personally I think the move to SC was a monumental mistake and the franchise and fan base will never be the same.
I know I don't identify with the team the same. They were an iconic franchise in an international alpha city and they will never get that back.

I agree 100 percent.

The game and free agency has indeed changed, but Eddie would have adapted. He was, and will always be a winner.

Eddy is no more than a common thief. he broke every rule you can imagine. His hand was not in a cookie jar.I t was holding a suitcase full of cash. What an idiot.
You don't like free agency? Who paid millions for players to sit on the bench in the quest to win? You wonder how FA got here?? People like Eddy hastened it to happen....
Moving out of SF was the biggest mistake. All to get a free stadium that can't carry 80K.....thwe good days are over...get used to it!

I'm not all that sure how Eddie would do in today's salary cap NFL. Part of what made Eddie such a good owner was he spent whatever it took to bring in the top players to win, and there was no salary cap to prevent him from doing so. Nowadays with the salary cap and the league trying to get some parity among teams, he could have all the money in the world but he wouldn't be able to spend it. Eddie's era was like the glory days of Rome, never to be repeated.

Eddie had quite a few interesting events in his background ;). But, lets be honest here, what billionaire hasn't!? You have to be ruthless to stay on top. That is a sad reality. Eddie was willing to do whatever it took.

Hatchball, I agree with your statement in regards to how Eddie would have done with the salary cap. I agree that this would have put a damper in the way Eddie was able to put together a team.

Regardless, Eddie was a winner. I still believe he would have found a way to win. There wouldn't be the turmoil on the team that exists to this day. There wouldn't be a stadium in Santa Clara. I firmly believe this.

Ok, now are you ready?

Eddie was sent , with family money to run the 9nrs and get him out of Youngstown....See eddy never really earned anything. He had no need to have riverboat casino......He did things the wrong way and it caught up to him. It's easy to get ahead when you bypass the rules....I bet the gal who accused him of rape didn't call it intresting....

Loved to see all the empty seats at the new stadium yesterday....what a Cluster "F". The value is going to fall and fall and fall. Replace Jim Harbaugh with Jimmy Tomsula? C'Mon man! The game yesterday felt like Green Bay wasn't even trying and they beat them. The Yorks have got to go! Please someone who has worked for a living and knows football please save my team.

If you think Harbaugh can make a winner out of this club you're nothing short of delusional.

Doubtful it is even Kap's fault. If they brought back the 1970's or 1980's Pro Superstar - Superman contests on Wild World of Sports - he would run away from those events.

But having the nose of the football come out of ones hand pointing down is a giveaway. He doesn't flick the ball from his ear like Marino or Rogers and although he said he was comfortable in "this" offense - Montana commented that it is all about timing and having the ball in the air before the receivers make their final cut.

And then there is Charlie Casserly http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-netwo...0000242194/Charley-Casserly-Kaepernick-gets-A

I think he could win more games with this club. Not a playoff contender in this division though. Jimmy Tomsula is a Patsy in this whole debacle. The mass exodus of players is a direct result of failed leadership. This was all created by York. His mind was made up at the beginning of last year that he was going to get Harbaugh out of there, and by creating stories about him in the media it gave him an excuse to get rid of him. As he knew getting rid of a proven winner was going to cause backlash with his fan base. So he tried to make him seem like a bad guy. Just wrong on so many levels.
