HMB scrimmages Sequoia tonight we'll see how that goes.....

Menlo School should be No.1. Why? Best resume. Best roster. Best player (point guard). And, of course, the all-important eyeball test. Menlo has it all.

Colhenry lives you might be right! Menlo going to open so we will get to see of this play out!

Hopefully, Burlingame's Cal Spurlock will be back from a minor injury soon. They play Analy Saturday at Burlingame. I've known Cal and the Spurlock family for a decade and I've seen lots of growth by Cal over the past year, both physically and maturity wise. Cal's father is a big strong guy and hopefully Cal grows into that kind of body. Cal is an excellent outside shooter and after a couple community college years, has a chance to play at the next level.

Mills beats Stuart Hall 55-48 tonight. Good win against a quality opponent. Mills will be a very tough team this year.

Just wondering: Does Mills have even a vague hint or semblance of an inside presence this year?

Yes, you'll be surprised. Multiple offensive threats this season...ok post, good penetration and mid range and obviously they always shoot the 3 very well.

Can anyone confirm that Mills tallest player is 6'3?.Much like Serra who lost its 2 tallest players to injuries both these teams will face an uphill road in post season and why Serra lost to SF and likely to Bells upcoming.

Starting 5 is 6'5 center, two 6'1forwards, 6' and 5'8 guards. Two 6'3 forwards coming off the bench. They are quite taller compared to past few years.

Pal South scores from last night:

57-32 M-A over Hillsdale
59-53 Mills over San Mateo
68-55 Seq over Burlingame
61-52 Woodside over Aragon
45-41 Carlmont over Cap

OK & thx as Mills sounds a bit more formidable based upon your report.

The 6'5 kid doesn't do a ton, but they have three legitimate scoring options at guard. I'd be surprised if they can stand up to M-A or Sequoia, but they're a solid team.

60 - 40 Mills over Burlingame on Friday night. Mills jumped out to a 20 pt lead in the 1st quarter. Came out at halftime and pushed the lead to 35 within the first couple minutes. Then starters sat mid way thru the 3rd for the rest of game.

Other PAL south scores:
Seq 56 - Woodside 33
M-A 54 - Carlmont 40
SM 45 - Aragon 44
Hillsdale 56 - Cap 49

And Mills by 3 over Menlo Atherton. Good exciting game. Mills patience and shooting overcame the Bears pressure defense.

Aragon 56 @ Capuchino 41
Woodside 41 @ Burlingame 49 (Burlingame scored last 11 points of game)
Hillsdale 38 @ Sequoia 64 (Sequoia scored first 19 of game)
San Mateo 55 @ Carlmont 56 (Carlmont layup won it with 8 seconds)

One observation: Burlingame's non-league schedule was a true back-breaker for a team with some notable limitations. However, that trial seems to have prepared them well for PAL action so far. Their coaching, focus, grit and intensity are finally paying off, at least to this point. They are 2-2. When you consider they won one non-league contest, that .500 PAL mark looks pretty good. Kudos.

Fri - Jan 19
Mills 51 @ Aragon 38
Mills controlled the tempo and lead the whole game. Ran there sets well, made adjustments when needed. Aragon couldn't get anything going against Mills zone. Lacked any type of flow and consistent shooting... there best shots were from 25 feet out.
Capuchino 46 @ Burlingame 41
San Mateo 58 @ Hillsdale 56
Carlmont 48 @ Woodside 67
Sequoia 47 @ Menlo-Atherton 41

Five games into the season Mills and Sequioa tied for first place in the PAL South with 5-0 records.

Was at Burlingame tonight and was really surprised by the outcome. Burlingame led Cap 24-16 at the half and despite Cal Spurlock having an off night, there was little indication Cap would mount a comeback.

However, Burlingame went ice cold and Cap led 39-34 with 227 to play in the 4th. A Cap foul with 1.3 seconds to go gave Spurlock a chance to win it, but Cal missed the first and made the second to send the game to overtime at 39-39.

Gavin Coleman gave Burlingame the lead at the start of OT, but Burlingame failed to score again. D. Ackermann hit a 3 to give Cap the lead 44-41 and Burlingame was unable to respond.

Good crowd and quite loud. Not a beautiful game to watch, but a fun one.

Reviewed the statistics for the Cap Burlingame game. Burlingame took 22 more field goal attempts than Cap and grabbed 16 offensive rebounds.

HOWEVER, when you go 3 for 26 from 3 point land...and 2 of 8 from the line (including missing a few front ends of 1 and 1 attempts), you ain't gonna win.

Yes, but their lack of size and athleticism would be an issue in the Open division. They can out execute and shoot any team in the CCS but they can potentially get out rebounded and bullied.

Not true. If Mills wins the PAL South and sweeps the league tourney, you better believe they will be hoisted into the Open. The PAL might again have two teams in the Open as occurred in 2017.

PAL South Schedule this week:

Wed, 1/24
Menlo-Atherton @ Aragon
Sequoia @ Capuchino
Burlingame @ Carlmont
Mills @ Hillsdale
Woodside @ San Mateo

Fri, 1/26
Carlmont @ Sequoia
Woodside @ Menlo-Atherton
Aragon @ Hillsdale
Burlingame @ San Mateo
Capuchino @ Mills

Kind of curious why you think they shouldn't even be considered? If they keep winning, why wouldn't they?
They probably are and will be considered. I like the coach. It would be nice to see them win a CCS D 3 championship then go onto play in Norcals.

Menlo-Atherton 44 @ Aragon 45 Looks like M-A is having a hard time scoring.
Sequoia 73 @ Capuchino 33
Burlingame 40 @ Carlmont 62
Mills 50 @ Hillsdale 38 Another Mills type win. Lead the whole game after the first few minutes. Controlled pace, executed their sets, every shot was a good shot and played unpenetratable zone.
Woodside @ San Mateo

I saw Mills play in the Crusader Classic at the beginning of December.

Mills lost to Mission in the first round game, then went on to win the Consolation Championship.
Mission lost to Berkeley in the Championship Semi Final Game. Mission lost the third place game to Half Moon Bay, when about half the Mission basketball team was playing in the San Francisco Section Football Championship Game on that Saturday. I think about 5 Mission players, including 2 or 3 starters, were on the Football team.

Riordan won the tournament, Half Moon Bay won the third place game over the depleted Mission team.

Mills did not show me, that they were a Elite Team in the C.C.S. at that time.

Maybe Mills has improved since that time.

Did Mills win any tournaments with better teams than the Crusader Classic?
By beating some better teams.

Who are the best wins for Mills? Stuart Hall & Menlo-Atherton

Bad Loss for Mills is Marin Catholic, which has won only 6 games this season. Beating Marin Catholic would have given Mills a game vs. a (19-1) University team.

FYI...... HMB was down 3 of their current starting 5 that were football players at that game also. They played all the way until the state championship game, and really aren’t into full basketball mode yet.
