Top EBAL teams square off this week

All are still true statements

Them beating SPSV is an upset

Riordan should have demolished them

they did beat Dublin

Doughtery valley now has a 2 game lead on the mountain side of the division and on the valley side granada now has a 1 game lead over Dublin and amador valley.

EBAL slate for Wed. 1/22, 7:00

DV @ AV
Cal @ Livermore
Dublin @ SRV
DLS @ MV
Foothill @ Granada

2 big upsets in the always exciting EBAL tonight, plus Cal got their first league win and upped Livermore’s EBAL losing streak to 76 games.

SRV 78 - Dublin 77 in OT
DV 58 - AV 48
Cal 59 - Livermore 38
Granada 68 - Foothill 60
MV 58 - DLS 47

I fondly remember on this board that someone said San Ramon wouldn't be that good in their league. Beating St. Pat's was an upset. How did they give Riordan a good game? San Ramon beat Dublin tonight.

San Ramon is a very good team, but the EBAL Mountain in particular is a very tough division. Even with the big win over Dublin, they are in 4th place out of 5 teams, sitting 3 games back of first place. Whoever said that wasn’t far off, but there are a lot of games left to play.

Didn’t say they wouldn’t be good. I said they will likely finish 4th in league, I still stand by that statement.

Losses have been very slim.. 1 and 2 point losses. They are a pretty solid team with good coaching in my opinion.

EBAL Schedule for tonight
Friday, 1/24 7:00

AV @ DLS
Dublin @ Cal
Granada @ SRV
Foothill @ MV
Livermore @ Dougherty

DLS & Dublin should bounce back from their latest EBAL setbacks, and DV should have no problem with Livermore. DLS by 10 and Dublin by 20. DV by 30+.

The most intriguing games are the 2 in Danville.

Granada comes in at 17-2 riding a 4 game winning streak and SRV is riding high fresh off their big win over Dublin. Granada won the first matchup 70-69 in the finals of the Mark Madsen Invitational in December, and this one promises to be a barn burner as well. SRV by 2.

Monte Vista seems to be hitting their stride with big wins over SRV & DLS in their last 2 outings, and should be favored over the Falcons tonight. But Foothill played Granada tough Tuesday night and beat arch rival AV (Who MV lost to) on Friday, so this won't be an easy task. MV by 6.

Dougherty Valley 69 - Livermore 29

Dublin 79 - Cal 40

SRV 60 - Granada 44

Monte Vista 53 - Foothill 34

Now that SRV has finally won a close one, watch out. Much-needed confidence boost for a team that's always had the talent to beat top competition.

Both Danville teams are, as usual, a joy to watch. Very high basketball IQ and great coaching. Those teams represent everything that public schools should aspire to be. Model programs.

How crazy or would it just be fate if its doughtery(mountain side) and dublin(valley side)for the EBAL title
Both of those schools student sections will be insane.

1/28 EBAL Slate:

DV 69 - Foothill 57; DV keeps rolling along, now has a 3 game lead over DLS, MV & SRV.

Granada 65 - DLS 62; Granada with another big “upset”. At some point, the 18-3 Matadors are just winning again.

Dublin 73 - MV 46; The Gaels responded big tonight keeping pace with Granada, in dismantling the red hot Mustangs.

SRV 85 - Livermore 51; As expected the Wolves ravaged the Cowboys, extending their EBAL losing streak to 77.

AV 76 - Cal 68; The Dons broke a 3 game losing streak to stay within a game of Dublin & Granada, in knocking the Grizz under the .500 mark overall.

Livermore 4-15, 0-8

EBAL Mountain
Dougherty Valley 19-2, 8-0

EBAL Games this weekend:

Livermore @ DLS tonight 1/30. DLS bench will get plenty of PT in this one. Most likely moved from Friday as DLS travels down south to play Long Beach Poly on Saturday afternoon at the Nike Extravaganza. DLS by 40+.

Friday games:

Monte Vista @ Dougherty Valley - The Mustangs look to rebound from their disastrous 2nd half at Dublin the other night, and regain their momentum from their 3-game winning streak and big victories over DLS & SRV. DV has been silently killing it in EBAL play, as they have now built up a 3 game lead in the Mountain. This should be a heated battle. MV in an OT thriller.

Granada @ Foothill - The Matadors look to stay tied for 1st place in the Valley with Dublin, but Foothill played them close in their last meeting at Granada, and now get them on their home floor. I look for Granada to get them early this time. Granada by 16.

Cal @ SRV - The Wolves have won 3 straight since their 2-point loss to rival MV and look to make it 4 before they finish up with a tough road of DLS, DV, AV & MV. SRV by 15.

Dublin @ Amador Valley - This is a huge game for the Dons, as they are just a game out in the Valley and look to keep pace with both Dublin and Granada. However, they don't match up well with the Gaels, as evidenced by the 71-26 shellacking they took 3 weeks ago. Dublin by 20.

DLS squeaked by Livermore last night 66-18.

Dougherty 60 - Monte Vista 55
Great game that came right down to the final minute with many lead changes.

Dublin 58 - AV 43
The Gaels deal a tough blow to the Dons, knocking them 2 games off the pace in the Valley.

SRV 74 - Cal 58
The Wolves keep pace with DLS, but still 3 games back of DV in the Mountain.

Granada - Foothill; No score reported yet. Mats need a win to keep pace with the Gaels.

Who do you think will go ncs open and d1?

Who do you think will go ncs open and d1?

Well, there are 6 spots for the NCS Open division, and I think 3 league champs are fairly certain in Salesian, Campo and BOD. The remaining 3 spots will likely come from these teams all within the NCS top 10 in MaxPreps ratings: Dublin #2, Dougherty #3, Branson #6, DLS #7, Granada #8, San Leandro #9, or SRV #10. A lot depends on how the EBAL teams finish out, as there are some huge games on the horizon in the next 2 weeks that will affect who gets into the Open and the seeding.

Dougherty has a 3 game lead with 4 to play, and they face Cal High on Tuesday (But their final 3 are vs SRV, and then on the road at DLS & Dublin). So barring a complete collapse in losing their last 3 games, they'll win the Mountain division of the EBAL and will then face off against most likely either Dublin or Granada of the Valley division for the league title. My guess is that the 2 EBAL finalists (DV & either Dublin or Granada) will go to the Open division, along with one of those other teams to complete the 6 team field.

So 4 spots for Salesian, Campo, BOD & Dougherty, then 2 more from one of these 6 teams with their remaining games:

Dublin 16-5, @ Foothill, then home vs Livermore, Granada & DV.

Branson 21-2, @ Tamalpais & SF Drake, home vs Novato

DLS 15-6, LBP today, @ SRV & Cal, at home vs MV & DV
Granada 19-3, @ MV & Dublin, and home vs AV & Livermore.

San Leandro 15-7, @ Berkeley & Mt. Eden, at home vs Castro Valley & Piedmont

SRV 16-6, @ DV & MV, at home vs DLS & AV

Yaaa. Final games for EBAL will be great.

How do you feel with Deer Valley if they stay undefeated in league?

Yaaa. Final games for EBAL will be great.

The problem with DV is they are ranked #39 in NCS by MaxPreps and with a strength of schedule of just 7.3. The BVAL is just down this year and it hurts all of the teams. All of the MP top 10 teams have strength of schedules of more than 10. Here are the next 10 per MP with school, overall record, rating, and schedule strength listed:

11 St. Patrick-St. Vincent (Vallejo) 15-8 22.3 17.4
12 Clayton Valley Charter (Concord) 16-4 22.0 12.3
13 St. Joseph Notre Dame (Alameda) 16-6 21.6 14.0
14 Piedmont 17-3 21.5 8.6
15 Piner (Santa Rosa) 20-2 20.4 5.8
16 Cardinal Newman (Santa Rosa) 20-3 19.5 7.0
17 Saint Mary's (Albany) 16-7 19.1 13.3
18 Newark Memorial (Newark) 14-6 18.9 12.1

Depending on how many D1 teams make the Open, there may not be enough other D1 teams that qualify to fill the D1 bracket. To qualify for NCS, a team has to be at least .500 in at least 1 of 3 areas, 1) Overall record, 2) League record, or 3) vs teams in their division.

Per the NCS website, there will be 6 Open teams, and then up to 16 teams in each of the remaining brackets. This is how MaxPreps has rated the D1 teams through today. The committee rankings will no doubt vary from MP, but this is a good benchmark.

# School Ovr. Rating Str.

Tuesday 2/4 EBAL slate:

Granada @ Monte Vista - Granada comes into this one at 19-3 fresh off their surprising win over DLS last week. The Mustangs have lost their last 2 games to Dublin & DV, and need a strong performance tonight. They played well against DV on Friday but fell short. This one promises to be a tight one. MV by 3.

Dougherty Valley @ Cal - The Wildcats remain undefeated in EBAL play at 9-0 in league and 20-2 overall. They are not about to lose this one to the cross town rival Grizzlies. DV by 20+.

Dublin @Foothill - Dublin stumbled badly a couple of weeks ago losing 3 straight EBAL games, but they have recovered nicely and carry a 3-game winning streak into this EBAL Valley battle. The Gaels should be firing on all cylinders tonight. Dublin by 25.

DLS @ SRV - The Wolves come in riding a 4-game winning streak, including wins over both Dublin & Granada. But they did not match up well with DLS last time around, losing by 20, and unless they can keep the Spartans in check at home it could be another long night. DLS by 6.

AV @ Livermore - One of Livermore's last chances this season for a league win to break the 78+ game skid, but I like the Dons' chances for this tune up before they face Granada Friday. AV by 30+.

Granada 56 - MV 48. The Matadors just keep on winning, extending their record to 20-3, and 7-3 in the EBAL with a tough road win. More importantly, they keep pace with Dublin, setting up a huge rematch next week for the EBAL Valley title.

Dougherty Valley 80 - Cal 62. The Grizz kept this one close early, trailing only by 3 in the 3rd quarter, but the Wildcats got it done in the 2nd half. They now have an opportunity to clinch the EBAL Mountain title with a victory this Friday at home vs SRV.

Dublin 75 - Foothill 33. The Gaels left no doubt in this one as they move towards a huge rematch with Granada next week for the EBAL Valley title.

SRV 70 - DLS 66. The Wolves overcame an early DLS lead to win their 5th game in a row in avenging an earlier 20 point loss and breaking a 2nd place tie with the Spartans. They now face DV on the road Friday night.

Amador Valley - Livermore, score not reported yet.

Friday 2/7 EBAL Slate:

SRV @ Dougherty Valley - The Wildcats hold a 3 game lead over the Wolves with 3 games to play, so a victory here would clinch the EBAL Mountain division championship. Easier said than done as SRV comes into this key battle having won 5 games in a row, including wins over Dublin, Granada & DLS. In addition, SRV saw a late lead on the Wildcats evaporate in a heartbreaking 1-point loss in their first meeting a month ago as Robby Beasley took over, and they’ll be seeking some redemption. DV’s 2 remaining games are away at DLS and Dublin, so they have incentive to clinch the title now. DV by 2 in a barn burner.

Monte Vista @ DLS - While both of these teams have been eliminated from the EBAL race, this is a pivotal game for NCS seedings between these long time EBAL powers, as the Spartans look to avenge the 58-47 loss to the Mustangs 2 weeks ago. DLS by 6.

Amador Valley @ Granada - The Matadors look to keep pace with Dublin in anticipation of their key EBAL Valley title matchup next Tuesday, as they try to avenge their 58-47 loss to the Dons a month ago. Granada by 12.

Cal @ Foothill - While the Grizz plays out the final 3 games of their schedule having been eliminated from the playoffs looking for another EBAL victory, the Falcons need 1 more win to qualify for the NCS D1 playoffs and would like to get it at home. Foothill by 8.

Livermore @ Dublin - The Gaels won the first meeting at Livermore 89-25, and there is no reason to believe this one will be any more of a contest. Dublin by 40+.

Amador beat Granada again, this time 45-43. Out scored them 13-2 in 3rd quarter.

Dougherty Valley beat San Ramon Valley 72-62

De La Salle beat Monte Vista 63-57
