WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

Agree. Serra's roster is far less talented than those in 2022 and 2023. They are still very competitive in the WCAL but certainly not a dominant force. The QB position is especially dicey. No wonder. The current starter was fourth-string in 2023. His primary sport is lacrosse. The heir apparent, a 6-3 pocket passer) transferred when his family moved. Right now, there are four former Padre QBs starting (or sharing) at various schools: Capuchino, Menlo-Atherton (though returning from an injury), Mount Diablo and Bishop Manogue in Reno. Tellingly, neither the Serra freshman team nor the junior varsity possesses what might be a future QB stud. That does not bode well (for Serra) in the future.

Sacramento State to build 25,000 seat football stadium

No, it's based upon having a top 20 media market, several championship winning programs, and a budding football program. If they already had these facilities, they'd have been included before several of the recent invites based upon media market size alone.

As for your 2nd sentence, please explain how. The Hornets have been competitive and/or winning conference titles in a multitude of different men's and women's sports, including beating prior members of the Pac-12. Once they are in FBS and a conference such as PAC-12 or MW -- they'll be drawing in even more student athletes likely making them even more competitive.

Decades for football. Because they lacked the facilities needed to attract top talent AND a committed president, AD/athletics department, and the right coaching. Had Robert S. Nelsen or Luke Wood, Mark Orr, Troy Taylor, and Kris Richardson all happened 25 years ago -- the success would have happened then. Despite the lack of facilities. They've already proved that. Adding the proper facilities to the mix just takes it to the next level. But other sports, such as baseball, have been successful for many years.

They get the new football stadium and events center built, it's not going to take decades to win in FBS. Not with a committed president, AD, and the fertile recruiting grounds of the central valley, bay area and SoCal.
I get the media market size, but I haven't seen that move the needle much in pro sports so I don't think it is a major card to play for conference realignment. And yes facilities improvements help the overall brand, but at a 25k seat stadium, would it still be the smallest stadium in the Pac-12 or MW?

In regards to hurting overall athletics, I think a move up to the Pac-12 if they become a power conference will mean having to pony up a big number in NIL to be competitive. Is there money in and around athletics at Sac State to do that year after year?

I love what Sacramento State has done with athletics, especially in football the past few years. Been to a handful of games and it is a cool atmosphere.

Overall, I think a lot of these conference moves are made without much long tem outlook and think some schools will regret these moves in the next 5-10 years.

WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

You don't know what you're talking about. Go to sleep.
Huge win even if this year's Padres was not stocked full of talent like last season. Took an epic Kyle Shanahan-like 14 point fourth quarter meltdown for SI to pull this one out. Congrats to SI. Will this be kickstart their march to their first outright WCAL crown since 1967?

Week 6 Scores

Manteca just beat Central Catholic easily and St. Mary's only lost by 3 to De La Salle, maybe MC is pretty good.
The defense is solid but the offense just isn’t there to beat Newman till the offensive line can get the running game going and protect Caden bc he can’t move or handle the pass rush…,, they are loaded at WR…….MC is at 30 sacks allowed in 5 games that’s not good enough

WCAL Week One

i agree with all of this. i will say though that i think serra can still blow out a lot of teams in wcal, because there defense and line are so much better. i think a lot of there games will be close at the half but will snowball into blowouts late. for example this si game i wouldn't be surprised if they get turnovers in the second half once si is forced to throw, and turn those into points that make the game a blowout.

Score was not indicative. Two years ago SH beat SI 10-0. That was probably the first BM game ever where I felt SI had zero chance of winning. SH held SI to less than 50 yards rushing and picked off Hummel twice. The talent gap was the widest Ive ever seen between the two where SH clearly had the better roster. That DOES NOT happen often.
I think this is where coaching comes into play.

This is basically the same team as last year minus our TE and for some reason we were discounted again at the start of this season.

Coach Vandermade had been doing it all last year and pundits kept saying they were lucky because it was his 1st year.

Not me, I knew we had a good coach on our hands and everyone inside SI also knows it. His players, their parents, alum, and admin are all in on Coach Vandermade and the football program he's building.

SI is coming!

DLS @ El Cerrito, 2nd half…. correct thread this time!

What it really comes down to, is that FG was probably a good bit out of their guy's range. They probably should have chucked it into the end zone and hoped.

Even though DLS could have PI'd on purpose, that would have allowed an untimed play.
agreed 100% percent. bad call by ec not knowing there kickers range better. plus it was into the wind, the wind always blows away from the hill at ec.

DLS @ El Cerrito, 2nd half…. correct thread this time!

I just now looked at the replay... The FG miss was caught on the 1. So he ran it back 99 yards, not 100 like I said earlier, and the refs called the play correctly.

But I agree, the refs were pretty bad... Not so much on what they called and didn't call, that's almost always debatable... but the fact they had to pow-wow after just about every play, killing any flow the game might have had.
agreed. there’s no way a game should have almost all run plays and take over 3 hours to play with no serious injuries. absolutely ridiculous.

i thought the kid stepped on the goal line after the fg attempt watching it live but if you saw the replay I take your word for it. lucky break for dls either way.

should not have been allowed play shouldve of blown dead but im sure dls will take it. these refs are horrible both ways.

PCAL Week 5

Props to Palma. They pushed Salinas to the edge. Looked like they gassed out at the end and couldn't stop the run. Extremely impressed with their team with the youth they have. This was a game they could have won. The next 2 seasons will be great games between these two teams.

Salinas QB battled through what looked like an ankle injury. Outcome of the game might have been different if he wasn't able to play that 2nd half. Emarrcis Turner needs more hype around his name. He was the best player on the field by a wide margin. He is the best player I have seen this year in the Monterey area.

WCAL Week One

@colhenrylives thoughts are,

SI over Serra
SF route Bells
& we are waiting on the final of: Mitty vs. VC

All games played on Friday Night which some posters thought all WCAL games were Saturday,…?

Question: in your humble opinion, does this reveal anything right out of the WCAL gate.
VC and Mitty play tomorrow night! Nice job ‘Cats. Congrats @Niklas227 ! You called it from the start.

Week 6 Scores

Salinas 39 Palma 25 1Final
Interception by Salinas on Salinas 15 yard line as Palma driving with 12 seconds left by Jake Mongary and took it to the bank. Close game. Palma is only going to get better since they are young.Salinas is going to have a tough time against Soquel and watch out for Palma in lower divisions. They have two leg RBs and line is really good and iron out some mistakes and this game was close. Salinas has lots of work to do if they are going to compete in D1. D line needs lots of work although pass defense looked good and they have threat in Turner at WR. Their run game was anemic until the end where it seemed Palma defense ran out of gas.

Alot closer than I thought it would be. Palma is going to be trouble next season with all they have coming back. This soph class is special. QB needs to get some experience but he made some really good decisions.
