2nd and 1…. Run moves the chains.

Run right gets 3. Run left…. He was getting free, but a HUGE hit delivered! 3rd and 5.

QB breaks the pocket and gains the first down…. but a flag is down…. against EC. now 3rd and 10.

Pass broken up, nearly picked off! 4th and 10, punt time…

Pass complete, #22 breaks a bunch of tackles, 1st down Spartans…. Run gets 6…. 2nd and 4 on the EC 9.

Penalty on EC, didn’t know the signal.. but it’s 1st and goal now.

Sparty fumble, they hang on to it.

QB fakes a handoff, races left, goes to the house!

Kick is good, 14-0, 415 left 1st.

Run into the middle stacked up, no gain.

Deep pass into double coverage, falls to the turf, 3rd and 10.

QB ducks the rush, comples a pass for a first down at the 43.

Jones-Drew breaks a few tackles, gets 7.

Ill-advised pitch, knocked free for a fumble, Sparty recovers, big loss. 3rd and 12.

EC encroachment penalty, 3rd and 7. Time out El Cerrito, 2:10 left in the 1st quarter.

Run middle, met by a brick wall. 2nd and 10.

Run middle again, gets 8, 3rd and 2.

Runner ducks right, jumps a man and gets the first down on the 32.

Pass over the middle, batted down in the line.

Juggling catch, first down on the EC 43.

Run up the middle stuffed, gets a couple.

Runner bounces right, still whacked down, 3rd and 7.

Play action fools absolutley nobody, sack all the way back to the 38. Punt time…

DLS receives to start.

Near-muff, but Spartans hold on, return to the 27.

Runner breaks a couple tackles, gets 6. Deuce Jones-Drew, I think…. 2nd down keeper gets nothing.

EC strings out the option, Spartans 4th and 4.

QB drops back as if to punt, fakes, races to the EC 32!


Clipping call, 1st and 25.

Dive play gets about 5, 2nd and 20.

PItch to the right…. #15 gets free, fakes out about 40 guys, goes all the way!! Kickgood, 7-0 Sparty with 8:49 left in the 1st q.

Looking again at the schedules of both teams, maybe I’m being a bit optimistic regarding EC’s chances…. The Gauchos haven’t faced anyone even near the level of the Spartan’s opponents, and except for St. Mary’s Stockton, Sparty has won all quite comfortably. Still, ya gotta play the game…

Riordan still has Bush, Hillman l, Tofi Jr (Cal football commit) and a great little freshman in Jack Loevener but are they the best non-prep team in the Bay Area still?

STILL? Are you referring to being best on paper? Last year they were also supposed to be the best. I think DLS, Salesian, and MC would have given them a run for their money (and probably won) even with TT and Emeneke. Individual stars and iso basketball don't necessarily make a great team.
