WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

Don't put too much credence in early comparative scores. League play will be a matter of match-ups, healthy rosters and coaching. In spite of some folks touting the Padres as quasi-elite, they are definitely vulnerable. Bellarmine and SHC are almost certainly not capable of beating the San Mateans. But, on a given Friday night, who knows? The other five teams, if the cards are dealt their way, have reasonable shots at Serra, especially since they aren't a high-scoring machine as in recent seasons. If Serra goes 6-1 or 7-0, more power to them. But, frankly, it just seems unlikely this year.
the west catholic league plays its games on saturdays. not fridays.

Nah, not so fast. Mater Dei has 10 scheduled games already. See bylaw #2217 of the CIF - Southern Section Handbook:

Now, see Bylaw 2207.6 of the CIF - Sac Joaquin Section Handbook:

Mater Dei was in no position to schedule and Dougherty / Folsom knew that. Kudos to the Monarchs if they did indeed do Folsom a major PR solid but the truth of the matter is this is Folsom acting like a tough ass after police has made it to the scene. Nothing more.
MD only had a 9 game schedule this year, they have 2 bye weeks….

But to your point, it was very unlikely this game could happen on such short notice….

WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

bro literally just said "did you watch serra hang with the number 2 team in california and the number 4 team in california for a half" and his takeaway from that is that not one but TWO west catholic teams are going to beat them? when the number two team in that league ALSO played de la salle and absolutely got their doors blown off?

make it make sense.
Maybe the #2 in the WCAL isn't who you think it is.

Week 5 Scores

You mean you still have not got to the bottom of this yet?….

That’s such a bummer, we have all been just dying to know what has happened to freedom since their longtime coach left for Heritage?!…. 🤣
ive been doing some digging around and i think i've getted to the bottom of it. i am working on a long form post about it that i will be posting soon, its actually crazy what they have done to destroy that program.

I think you are incorrect sir. Mater Dei settled on a 9 game regular season because they had trouble finding a final team that wanted to play them. They are one of the few teams in California that could have taken this game if they wanted to but TL starts next week and there was such short notice that they declined. You are accusing Folsom of doing this for publicity which is not accurate. Doherty has shown he’s much more willing to schedule tougher compared to the previous regimen so I give Folsom credit.

Thing is, outside of DLS for 5 of the past 6 years, Folsom historically hasn't shown an inclination to schedule games against programs they recognize as clearly superior to them. Games they don't reasonably expect to win (I think they expected to beat Serra-SM). Kinda like a champion boxer protecting their legacy by strategically setting up fights against favorable match ups only.

And IMO the only reason they started scheduling DLS in 2018 (Richardson's last season as HC) was because DLS stood in their path for the OPEN game and they knew they had one of the better classes of players since 2014.

They've only scheduled two Southern Section teams ever and neither were considered elite or even top level programs at the time.

I don't blame them for never scheduling Cen10, as that program historically refuses to travel outside of SoCal or Fresno sans a trip to Las Vegas last season and Peoria, AZ this season. But those other programs have shown the willingness to reciprocate travel.

Trouble is, Folsom doesn't reasonably expect to beat them and doesn't want to be Akron going into the Horseshoe in Columbus.

Again, I don't blame them (as much as I'd like to see it happen). Just as I wouldn't blame the average program here in the Sac Metro area not wanting to play Folsom.

You're 100% right. Really, any game against a TL team not named Mater Dei or St. John Bosco would pose a serious challenge most years, as well as provide serious cachet (if won). The likes of DLS, Bishop Gorman, and Sierra Canyon, among others, have figured this out by scheduling JSerra, OLu and Servite in recent years.

Back around 10-13 years ago when Casey Taylor was still at Del Oro, they managed to schedule respectable Southern Section programs such as Westlake, Oaks Christian, Notre Dame, and Vista Murrieta. Westlake was even a top program at the time, representing the South in the OPEN game in 2011.

There are a myriad of good programs down South that would seriously strengthen SOS while not necessarily qualifying as a "blender" type game.

What about Sierra Canyon?
sierra canyon is the third best program in california. if folsom won't play centennial or bosco they won't play sierra canyon either.

WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

Let's get back to the matter at hand: The start of the 2024 WCAL season. It's wide open, as up for grabs as its been in quite awhile. There is no clear favorite. There has been a lot of speculation that Serra is the obvious choice to repeat. Really? Did you watch the DLS and Bosco games? The win over Folsom was an upset and, frankly, a reflection of Folsom's lack of preparation and execution. Serra deserves a lot of credit for that road win. But it's being blown out of proportion now. It will be no surprise at all if the Padres _ led by an inexperienced QB and relying on young players throughout _ go 5-2 in league play. They are vulnerable. On the other hand, so are the other seven WCAL teams. Again, a tie for the crown seems quite possible this year. SI has first crack at the Padres in the Sunset District fog Friday evening. Expect a low-scoring grinder.

I'm only seeing one side of the conversation trolling attempt, but it's clear to whom you're toying with and everything you said above encapsulates the truth of the situation. The dude has one clear objective: stir the pot and create controversy. As someone I know always says "I ain't got time for that!".

I keep hoping that one day the rest of you guys will get bored with his shtick and pay him no mind. Once the attention stops, it will all end. There will be no payoff.

In fairness, I keep super late night, non-traditional hours myself. Except I'm not posting incessantly or trolling, so there's that.

This is what I keep preaching on the national board, but some folk can't help themselves.

Folsom needs one of the following on their schedule next year: MD, SJB, C10, or MV. Plain and simple.

Thing is, outside of DLS for 5 of the past 6 years, Folsom historically hasn't shown an inclination to schedule games against programs they recognize as clearly superior to them. Games they don't reasonably expect to win (I think they expected to beat Serra-SM). This is something I've not understood for a while. Many NorCal teams that get games against SS competition only seem to want to swing for the fences (i.e., Mater Dei or St. John Bosco). There are a number of other teams that would provide very good reputation-building games that have demonstrated they might be open to travel: Orange Lutheran, Mission Viejo, Servite, or maybe Los Alamitos.

Ok…. Whatever you say….. 🤣

I find it hilarious that you go from Folsom Homer to Folsom Basher…. Yet on the National Board you are Trolling MD and So Cal all day today….

You have issues with trying to create confrontation and your takes are stupid…. For you to sit here and Bash a team you spent years proclaiming was the best, just shows what kind of sociopathic tendencies you have….

Trolling multiple message boards with multiple handles bashing all the teams, just to argue with people shows you may have issues we all can’t help you with….

So all I can say is Cheers Brother, I hope you find whatever makes you happy in life and you get the help you need…. 🍻

Just look at the time stamps. This dude posts form all times of the day. He is drinking some moist has shit that’s making him plump. Look at the times, 2:30am, 9am, 3pm, 8:24pm. This dude is all over the place.

Kudos to Folsom for making the call!…. Tough to schedule a game that far away in the middle of the season on short notice with league play coming up in such a difficult league….

Who knows though, maybe this opens the door for the teams to play next year….
