An excellent W. Both for SI and the WCAL _ which needed a lift after a tough weekend. That “meh“ coach found a way to beat the undefeated #2 ranked team in San Diego last night.

The Bells' lower level teams are not special. They haven't been top-notch for the last several years. It's not entirely clear why but we can speculate. Rugged admission standards. Changing demographics. Administrative indifference. Coaching issues. Competition from other Silicon Valley private/parochials. Here's the key question: Does the all-male school's leadership view a high-level football program as important? The rest of the athletic program seems to be OK, maybe not super but quite good. As opposed to several other WCAL outfits (Serra comes to mind with about a quarter of the entire student body being football players), marketing sports to goose enrollment is not a factor at Bellarmine. The demand to get admitted there is intense. With 1,600 boys enrolled, the school turns away several hundred applicants each year. They typically don't benefit much from transfers (not unlike Stanford). Founded in the mid-19th century before the Civil War as a prep school for Santa Clara University (it was originally called "Santa Clara Prep"), Bellarmine has a long list of wealthy, influential alumni and generous donors. How many of them desire a solid football program is not clear.Dang - would you be willing to share deep BCP football records?
Do you remember the years when BCP frosh would sweep WCAL and then struggle as JV and Varity? Coaching issues and upper level motivation. Seems like we are heading back to those days.
Dang - would you be willing to share deep BCP football records? With Bellarmine in the midst of another brutal football season, a bit of perspective might be in order. If predictions hold and the Bells finish the year 1-9 or 0-10 (they are 0-3 right now), it will be unprecedented. Since the program began in 1915, school records indicate the varsity has never slumped to 1-9 or 0-10. (The last time the varsity was winless was in 1936 when it posted an 0-6-1 mark.) For that matter, 2-8 would be a nightmare as well, coming on the heels of last season's 2-8 record. This year's JV team is also 0-3 at this point. The one bright spot: The frosh are 2-1.
Agree with your ranking list except I'm not ready to move SF, AR or SI into a tie with each other just yet.My WCAL Rankings after this weekend
1. Serra
2. Riordan
2. St. Francis
2. St. Ignatius
5. Mitty
6. Valley Christian
7. Sacred Heart
8. Bellarmine
There’s a drop off between the top and bottom half teams
Serra is still the team to beat in the WCAL
Windsor still has one of the Anderson brothers still playing and he's an absolute stud. Going to UNLV next year and he's a terror on both sides and has been for the last 3 years. I'm assuming Campo is down and Windsor is still good but not as strong as prior year(s). They lost a few stallions and some lineman from last year. Windsor, Newman, and MC will all be in the mix for the league title.Looks to me like Campo is a bit down, but Windsor is quite good! Big, physical line, several solid runners... They killed Campo with the old Wishbone formation, not even bothering to pass until pretty late in the 2nd quarter... Then they showed they can pass the 'skin, too!.
He would make for a great College psychology class experiment. They would have a field day trying to figure out why he does this. And for so long. lolHA!!…. So today, @MOlST AND PLUMP who was Banned from the National Site for trolling as a So Cal Poster, was banned again after an Hour long tirade, again as a So Cal poster as “Plump and Moist”….
And how did he start off every post?…. “I hope I don’t get Banned for this But”….. 🤣
“The Block is Hot”…. 🤣🤣
Sorry, I meant to post that comment on Moist n Plump’s last comment🤣Me?… I have no issue with Freedom…. I was just answering a question…. 🤣
Laney and Alameda are the same team. Merritt isn't good
Laney and Alameda are the same team. Merritt isn't goodGreat Pickup for the Peralta College campus. Alameda will have to get over Laney and Merritt before even thinking about MJC!!
Look at that line-up. MJC could defeat many d2/d3 schools and some d1. This is a very talented all-star team of Valley players who want a scholarship.
Brice is a very good coach in life and basketball!!
Let's re-visit our projections in March.
deer valley put 50 on freedom last year when they playedNobody ever accused Freedom of being legit! HAHA. They had an NFL RB like @THEOC89 said.
I would say a program in that area that has fallen even harder is Deer Valley. They use to be very good year in and out.
Other Games.
Jesuit in an ugly one over CB 7-0 in the Holy Bowl. Maurauders were sloppy and CB was scrappy. Jesuit needs to play better next week to beat Granite Bay. Both teams come into that game undefeated but both haven't been tested.
Newman all over Armijo 56-21 on Friday night to improve 3-0. There first test comes friday at home against an improved Bishop O'Dowd team.
Great Pickup for the Peralta College campus. Alameda will have to get over Laney and Merritt before even thinking about MJC!!Gary payton is the new coach at College of Alameda.... brice gonna have some competition for king of the north!
I figured this would be a competitive game going in, but I favored Pitt to win. They are a talented and very good program every year, not just occasionally as Riordan tends to be. This is one of those years where Riordan is very talented, fast, and athletic. Pitt is that every yearSince I had the time, I looked at the pick em. 25 of 28 posters picked Pitt. I really thought based on everything I read before the season that Riordan was a lock 2, and possibly could overcome Serra. Pretty shocking that they could easily be 0-3. And as someone stated above, outside of Serra, I agree bay area football runs thru the East Bay. WCAL will be interesting this year. But I give the league teams credit for scheduling at their expected levels.
HA!… Mater Dei had a Legendary Coach and for 30 years…. Followed by the favorite Coach in the program for 1 year…. Followed by one of So Cal’s all time great coaches…. Totally different….mater dei is the best program in America and they have had three coaches in three years and there is a high likelihood have a fourth next year, they won state last year and will win it again this year so that doesn’t quite track.
looking at the historical record it looks like hartwig had a slightly above .500 record at freedom so its not like he was a world beater. there has to be something else going on. we need to get to the bottom of this, it is important because this program is too important to East bay football for this to be allowed to continue. heads need to roll until freedom is back to being elite.
serra will run double wing and have 42 minutes time of possession minimum when they play riordan that defense is not ready for prime time yet they need another couple years to build it upNo, I was not able to watch the game…. The good news for Riordan is they will get their Chance to prove it when they play Serra…. 🤣
Me?… I have no issue with Freedom…. I was just answering a question…. 🤣Sounds like you have a Freedom issue to resolve.
