Welcome to Folsom

i hope i dont get banned for saying this but folsom eliminated themselves from open contention with that loss against serra. the winner of serra versus dls will get the open spot, unless one of them gets upsetted in the playoffs (saint francis or pittsburg being the only two candidates for that with st. francis having a 3% chance and pittsburg having a -0 percent % chance).

i don't see a scenario where serra and dls both lose multiple games to get folsom back in the mix. hopefully CIF does the right thing and puts them in 1AA when the time comes, the nor cal regional should be a classic.

Welcome to Folsom

Two things I noticed on the 4th down. Lyons got lit up the play before hand. He layed on the floor for some time and got up slow. If this was the NFL, he probably would have been pulled from the game to be evaluated for a concussion. Who knows if he even knew what he was doing. Also, Coach Doherty didn't seem to have much of a reaction to the failed 4th down. It wouldn't be the reaction I suspected by a coach if the players made a mistake for going for it. It was likely on him. Crazy to think any coach would go for it in that situation against the caliber of team that Serra is.

Coaching was a massive difference. You could say Folsom has more talent but Serra matches that with great football players. You don't have to be a Power 4 player to be a great high school football player. Coachable, high effort, solid athletes are all over Serra's roster.
I only saw the 4th quarter of this game, and didn’t see any talent disparity at that time. I did see the boffo onside kick coverage by Folsom that gave Serra the ball back. But I saw Serra running the football very effectively, controlling the quarter, and keeping Lyons in check.Whatever talent advantage Folsom supposedly had, it wasn’t manifesting itself at all

Welcome to Folsom

I’m no Folsom homer but nobody can watch that game and tell me the better team won. Serra got extremely lucky to come out of there with a win. Missed fg chip shot by folsom and onside kick they didn’t even look ready for. Props to Serra because they played their tails off and out coached folsom but let’s be honest that Folsom let them off the hook. I think DLS beats Serra personally.
Not sure I agree. I watched the game (zero allegiance to either team so could care less who won). No doubt Folsom was the more talented team. Serra was the better coached team.. They seem pretty equal, I wouldn’t say one was really better than the other. Honestly if they play 10 times I’d say its 5/5 split, 6/4 at best.

17th annual Nor Cal Tip Off Classic Schedule Saturday November 30 at Dublin High School

I don't see what the times of games would have to do with venue size. Last I looked, days are 24 hours long in huge arenas, too.

Multiple venues? Nah... I wanna see all the games, not have to choose between one or another.

Multiple days? Yeah, that would be excellent. 3 or 4 games on Friday starting after school, then the rest the next day. I would LOVE that! :)

Welcome to Folsom

Serra was the better team. Shut down Folsom offense and Folsom even scored on last play of first half. Serra is in Folsoms head. Tough to reverse ownage.
100%…. Ownage…. Walsh knows how the slow Folsom Down and play a low scoring game…. Just like DLS has proven that against Folsom you can dictate the terms Coaching wise and Physically….

The record against these teams speaks for itself…. Frustrate Folsom and they will make enough mistakes for you to win….

Welcome to Folsom

Put this one on Folsom coaches. You can play with the video game mentality for only so long. 4th and 28 and you don't punt? I don't care what happened, it's on the coach to call a timeout there.

Offsides on the PAT and they try to take it on the kickoff, then decline it instead of going for 2 from the 1.5 yard line with a 5 star dual threat QB, but hey we'll go for it on 4th and 28.

Folsom gets the ball at midfield with about 6 or 7 minutes left in the game, championship teams grind out the clock here. What does Folsom do? Throw the ball, don't milk the play clock, incomplete pass and then 10 yard punt.

Don't cover the huddle in an onside kick situation, wow.

Folsom's "Best Team Ever" just got beat by a team replacing 18 starters, 3 of those new starters out with injury, after a 4.5 hour bus ride.

Week 3 Football Preview

#1 Serra (1-0) at #2 De La Salle (1-0) 7:30 PM Game of the Week

The top two ranked teams had much different game flows in their openers. Serra got out to a 13-0 lead, saw Folsom score 21 straight and then staged a fourth quarter comeback to win 22-21 on a last second field goal. The Padres found success on the ground against the Bulldogs. De La Salle started off fast with big plays in the run game and easily beat Grant 42-14. Duece Jones-Drew and Derrick Blanche each rushed for more than 100 yards. Ant Dean provided one of the week’s highlights by striping the ball and returning it for a score. Serra has won two straight games in this series.

Liberty (1-0) at Los Gatos (1-0) 7:00 PM

Junior running back Jaxon Bell ran for 187 yards and two touchdowns and added a 48 yard reception in a 24-7 win over Frontier-Bakersfield, which beat Oak Ridge the previous week. The Lions also had two interceptions in their opener. Beau Musser had a kickoff return for a score for Los Gatos in a 14-7 win over Soquel. Grayson Doslak had a rushing touchdown for the Wildcats’ other score. The 2023 matchup saw Liberty get out to a 34-14 lead before Los Gatos scored the game’s final 21 points in the 35-34 victory.

#12 McClymonds (0-1) at #7 St. Francis-Mountain View (1-0) 7:00 PM

In a 35-14 opening win over Helix, St. Francis got more than 150 total yards from senior Kingston Keanaaina, who also had three rushing touchdowns. Senior Jackson Cahoon had 12 tackles and was one of three Lancers with double digit tacklers. McClymonds played well in its opener and led Riordan 34-20 in the fourth quarter , but couldn’t hold the lead in falling 35-34. New starting quarterback Berell Staples was one of the bright spots with two passing touchdowns. It is the second straight Top 10 matchup for McClymonds, which also has San Ramon Valley on the schedule later this month.

Placer (2-0) at Del Oro (0-1) 7:00 PM

Placer has scored at least 42 points in each game in beating Casa Roble and Rio Linda. The Hillmen have employed multiple runners, led by Baylor Kelley, averaging nine yards per game and 282 yards as a team. This projects as one of Placer’s best teams in the past decade. Del Oro had a bye following a 28-14 loss to Reed in the first game as head coach for Josh Parry. Nolen Sauve had 120 passing yards and a touchdown in the loss.

Salinas (0-0) at Valley Christian-San Jose (1-0) 7:00 PM

Salinas is one of the few teams that hasn’t started their season yet and likely enter the season as the favorites in the Galiban Division with a 38-2 league mark over the past 40 games. Players to watch include defensive lineman Joshua Na and WR/DB Emarrcis Turner. Chad Arrieta had an interception return for a score in a 24-7 win over Wilcox. Valley Christian ran for nearly 200 yards using multiple runners.

Downey (2-0) at Merced (1-1) 7:00 PM

Carson Lamb is back leading the Downey passing attack after throwing for more than 2,000 yards as a junior. Through two games this fall, he has thrown for 482 yards and seven touchdowns against Lincoln-Stockton and Elk Grove. His top receiver has been Joseph Ramirez. Merced lost its opener to Patterson 39-21 but bounced back to beat Gregori 42-12. Merced quarterback Quintell Dupree threw for 168 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a score in just the first half against Gregori.

Salesian (1-0) at Moreau Catholic (1-0) 7:00 PM

Moreau Catholic posted a shutout to start 2024 with a 37-0 win over St. Mary’s-Berkeley. Running back Jayden Bryant had three touchdowns in the win. Salesian also rolled in its opener with a 46-14 win over Piedmont. The Pride have won double digit games in three of the past four full seasons, but did lose to the Mariners (23-21) in 2023.

St. Vincent (1-0) at Truckee (2-0) 7:00 PM

In St. Vincent’s 48-6 win over De Anza, Gabe Casanovas threw for 207 yards and three touchdowns on only 10 attempts. Joseph Phillips had 67 yard and 33 yard touchdown catches. The Mustangs are coming off a 13-2 season culminating with the 6-AA state title. Truckee has won 24 straight games dating back to the 2022 season. Truckee running back Joseph Birnbaum has 204 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries through two games. Last week, it beat Union Mine 42-0.

#16 Cardinal Newman (1-0) at Vacaville (1-1) 7:30 PM

Cardinal Newman showed off some of its explosive ability in a 61-14 win over Casa Grande. Sophomore wide receiver Zion Cargill had six catches for 138 yards and a touchdown. Vacaville has played a pair of close games in beating Escalon 23-21 and losing to Granite Bay 17-14. Tanner Boyd has 170 rushing yards and a touchdown and is the team’s leading receiver. In the 2023 meeting in Santa Rosa, Cardinal Newman won 27-7.

SATURDAY

#13 Inderkum (2-0) at #9 Grant (1-1) 2:00 PM

Inderkum is coming off a convincing defensive performance in a 26-0 win at Marin Catholic. Through two games, the defense has recorded 17 tackles for loss. Quarterback Ricky Cole is completing 66 percent of his passes and has a team high 25 rush attempts. Grant struggled in a 42-14 loss to De La Salle, but has a pair of talented sophomore receiving targets to watch in Koby Shabazz and Zo Edwards. Can the Pacers bounce back in what should be one of the top non-league games in the SJS this fall?

Welcome to Folsom

I was at the game and it was a total toss up in my opinion on who the better team was. I thought Folsom was going to hold on and win but they didn't. Serra also missed a FG and there kicker is incredible. Folsom got extremely lucky at end of 1st half as well.

50 yard hail mary slips thru #10 hands on Serra (he thought he interecepted it). The serra coaches thought the ball hit the ground and it should have been no catch by folsom kid. Bet if they replayed it the ball hit the ground because it was right next to walsh.

Next 2 plays folsom scores on some circus act lateral ala CAL bears play. Total luck.

They play again and it would be decided by 7 or less points. Serra was every bit as good.
This. I don't know how anyone watching that game could say Folsom was the better team. Neither team separated from the other. Neither team had a once in a life time style of game. It was a gritty matchup where both teams had some luck and bad luck that led to the opposing team capitalizing. It was pretty clear these were two of the top teams in Northern CA and there wasn't much of a gap between them.

Can anyone tell me who went to Findlay Prep, Prolific, and any other prep or academy from the Bay Area that made it to the NBA. I am getting old and due to health issues have lost some memory, but will there ever be a time that someone sits down with these kids and says look at the list which I know we can add tons of more names.

To me I would have loved to see Jalen stay playing for Lou Ritchie. The discussion would be one and done and lottery pick. Per the article he isn’t even in the Top 100 draft ratings. And to me when foreigners are continually growing the numbers in the league, dominate your peers in high school and dominate your level in the summer. That path has proved itself over and over again.
times have changed.. those guys you named are decades ago. also, none were 6 '9 as freshman. it is harder when you are that big that young.. you need to see people your size... granada kid didnt improve. mt diablo kid didnt improve. yv kid sort of

In the world of NIL deals now that money he got may not have even scratched the surface of what he might have gotten if he stayed. A lot of these families make mistakes based on receiving poor information from those who are not looking out for their best interest.
It’s tough to say how he would of turned out if he stayed with the traditional route. He kind of reminds me of Jordan Brown from Woodcreek. They were physically almost the same as a frosh in hs as they were as a senior. 6-9 average athletic ability guys are a dime a dozen by the time you get to college.

Welcome to Folsom

There was no “dominating” by either team. Serra just had a better game plan. Slow the clock with tons of runs, limit throws for new qb, keep Folsom offense off the field. Go watch the final 6 minutes if that game and tell me Folsom didn’t let Serra off the hook.

Welcome to Folsom

You folks are all making good points. But there's one thing that stands out for your beloved colonel: For all practical purposes, this is a new Serra team, a vastly different group from what we saw in 2022 and 2023. Folsom was their first game. Folsom is outstanding, almost surely the best public school team and program in NorCal. They are loaded with individual talent. Serra was on the road and led by a new, inexperienced senior QB. Yes, most of these new Serra faces are virtually unknown. But their performance was a good indicator of the depth of the program, which embraces about 225 players at three levels today (27 percent of the student body). Serra is on the road again Friday at DLS. The Spartans have lost to Serra the last two seasons. In 2023, the final score was a shocking 28-0. The last time DLS had been shut out was during the William McKinley Administration. OK, just kidding. But it's been awhile. A long while. DLS should be favored this week. Then again, so was Folsom.
