SHC @ Soledad - "The 0 must go!"

Does anyone know how this game was scheduled?

I know Soledad sometimes likes to go outside the box, but usually its with a different section. To get a WCAL school to travel to Soledad seems a little odd. SHC usually schedules different opponents, Palma, SHP Burlingame etc, traditionally stronger and more consistent opponents than Soledad. I think the game will be closer than 49-6, but then again I only scored 18 point in pick' em
last week so... 🤷‍♂️

For any SHC fan coming down, try a swiss sausage sandwich they are delicious...
In the previous seasons, SH usually scheduled up instead of down. Last season they were emphatically punching above their weight class. The only silver lining was some of their offensive players played well vs the better than average teams. Defensively they looked horrible so much to look forward to this season on both sides of the ball. It appears they have a lot more speed defensively, however the real difference will be if those guys actually have desire to tackle this season unlike last season.

@Streak One

Bellarmine beat Menlo-Atherton last night 27-0. I will X out by #10 pick as a result, unless we want to replace it for those who made their picks today. The original message did say that the picks were due this evening, so I think this might be a reasonable compromise.

(Except maybe for those who made their picks after the game was over and still got it wrong 😆.)
@Cal 14 Bellarmine and M-A Frosh played yesterday. Varsity plays Saturday afternoon @ M-A

Welcome to Folsom

Let down game? Funny, but DLS somehow managed not to have any of those for 30 years in NorCal. Even during a time when Regional and State game appearances didn't exist.

Don't be "excuse thread" guy, OC89! You're better than that! You're sounding like Sammy the Servite homer circa 2009!

Just man up and admit that Folsom beat DLS fair and square. Just like they did the very next regular season in 2022 before the Spartans got revenge during the Regional. You certainly can't use the same lame excuse for that game too! ;)

No differing circumstances. Just an 'L'.
When you hear things directly from key members of the program like “The Kids have had a terrible week of practice, they are flat and uninspired”, I am not sure what else you can conclude….

Even so they put up a great fight losing the game by 1pt, that Folsom won fair and Square and deserved to win 100%… Folsom made an epic playoff run that year and their coach deserves so much credit for keeping them together when they had lost 3 games and were a Gutsy 2pt conversion away from being knocked out of the playoffs…. Just a terrific coaching job!….

The other years you are talking about are irrelevant because DLS did not get Jobbed out of the Open game to an undeserving Serra team like they did in 2021…. So the circumstances were never the same….

I am not disputing any win Folsom or any other team has had over DLS…. I am just stating that in 2021, the kids of DLS saw playing in the D1AA regional game as a Letdown….

SHC @ Soledad - "The 0 must go!"

The Sacred Heart Cathedral Fightin' Irish, some 671 Days after their last football victory, are slated to travel to Soledad this afternoon to take on The Soledad Aztecs. Soledad, a small community of a little over 24,000 with 4,000 or so being inmates at Salinas Valley State Prison, will also be looking to notch a tally in the win column after a dismal 1-9 2023 season with their lone win coming to start up Rancho San Juan 20-14.

This matchup in scheduled for a 7:30pm kickoff and will be broadcasted exclusively on the NFHS Network!
Expect SH to take full advantage of this matchup vs lesser opponent. Im looking for 300 yard passing game by Sargent, 100 yard rushing game by Williams, 3 receivers with 75+ yards receiving, and at least 1 defensive TD score. Will not have an opponent like this the rest of the year to exercise last year's demons. 49-6 Irish.

Welcome to Folsom

This is Block’s new MO…. He is all over the National Boards Trolling everyone as a So Cal fan and his Schtick is “So Cal is a Different Level”…. He is even Bashing Folsom and pretending he doesn’t know who they are….

He has been outed by the Mods and everyone else…. Will never understand what is wrong with that dude…. 🤣
rookie............sounds more like a dookie. Be sure to have a plumber's helper available.

Return of Steve Lo

This is from the Chronicle, previewing some nonleague games.

SEPT. 14

St. John Bosco at No. 4 Serra —
The Padres lost 45-0 to the Braves in the 2022 state final. Meanwhile, Serra will welcome back SJB offensive coordinator Steve Lo, who held the same position for the Padres.

Rather ambiguous sentence. I think what they MEAN to say is that Steve Lo, former OC for Serra, is the OC for Bosco. Serra will "welcome Lo Back" when the two teams play on 9/14.

The editor needs a new line of work, if you ask me...
Yes, the editors need to up their game. The construction begs confusion. Those sentences have to be read multiple times to make sure they are correctly understood and hardly anyone does "close reads" on sports articles while sipping their morning coffee.

Welcome to Folsom

I hate the “______ weren’t into it” excuse that many fans use. We can all point to times when a team was prime for a letdown for various reasons, and yet they still won. Look, DLS won the earlier match up, and Folsom won the second game…that’s it. There are too many examples to recite where top teams rolled a team early in the season, only to lose to the same team at the end of the season. Folsom v Grant comes to front of my mind.

It happens at every level of sports. No excuses.

You hate it because not only is it weak -- it's just untrue! Parents of players hear their kids say it after the fact because they need an "out".

If the DLS players and coaches didn't care about that game, they wouldn't have bothered showing up! They'd have declined participation.

Further blowing a hole in his theory, aside from the Spartans long history of showing up for games and performing well no matter the circumstances, was the following season in 2022. They again didn't get an OPEN invite yet somehow managed to show up and focus just well enough to avoid losing to Folsom for a 3rd consecutive time.

Maybe it was Folsom that had a "let down" game that time around?! I'm sure OC's not willing to buy into that! 🤣

Good, because it's a trash excuse, and something "losers" say.

Welcome to Folsom

The Big Difference is that was a Letdown game for DLS who’s Hearts were not in the game after getting Completely Jobbed and left out of the Open for an undeserving Serra team that got Boat-raced on their Home Field by SF and played a terrible schedule other then their league game against SF…..

DLS held decisive wins over the SD Open Champ (28 pts), the SJS D1 Champ (20 pts) and the NCS D1 Champ (28 pts)…. No other Nor Cal team had a Resume anywhere near this…..

DLS rightfully expected to play in the open and when they didn’t the kids were crushed and they were never into playing in the D1AA regional….

So totally different circumstances…..

WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

I'd say Serra's a fairly big underdog
Mitty's a slight favorite
St. Francis is a slight fave
Riordan's a clear fave, tho nobody seems to know why McClymonds is rated so low, might be closer than the ratings say
St. Ignatius will have its hands full with SRV
Sacred Heart should handle Soledad
Valley Christian should handle Wilcox
Bellarmine a slight fave over Menlo-Atherton

I'm mostly going by Calpreps' ratings, so take with a large grain of salt.
