Serra offensive lineman Ryan Silver (6-foot-4, 300 pounds) was a key part of Serra's 2021 physical offensive line that helped the Padres reach the State Open Division Bowl game. He has good agility for his size, sustains blocks throughout the play and displayed good power on both sides of the line. Silver has offers from San Diego State, Nevada, Fresno State, San Jose State, Colorado State and Army.

In the 9-6 win, Ben Cleary had three RBI and Noah Potencion and Enoch Mun each had two RBI. Garett Carlson gave up one run over 4.1 innings.

In the 7-4 win, Serra scored three runs in the top of the ninth. Jake Torres had two singles and three RBI. Six different pitchers threw for the Padres

Congrats to Bay Area baseball and to Sonoma County in particular. Last year, Cal junior Andrew Vaughn from Maria Carillo HS in Santa Rosa was the 3rd pick in the MLB draft. This year's #1 player will likely be Arizona State's Spencer Torkelson from Casa Grande HS in Petaluma. How cool is it that a county with under a half-million population could achieve that!

Mitty: The Monarchs beat Liberty-Bakersfield 10-5 and St. Mary's-Stockton 7-5. Noah Pang went 2-for-4 with two RBI against the Rams.

Cardinal Newman: They beat Sacred Heart Cathedral 5-1 and Mountain View 8-0. The Cardinals have given up 33 runs in 15 games.

Franklin: They shutout Palo Alto 2-0 and Stockdale 3-2. Nolan Stevens threw a complete game shutout against the Vikings.

Woodcreek: They beat Clayton Valley Charter 7-6 and San Ramon Valley 6-2. The Timberwolves have one of the region's best rosters and have won 14 in a row

Another coach stepping down. Too bad, he was an alum and an on campus coach (He will continue at the school as a special education teacher). Recently removed from AD role and had a four season record of 24-16. Personally I see a great advantage for schools to have on campus coaches. I believe it is a significant positive influence on the kids, school, program, and community to have a coach with a total presence at a school.

The 17s and 16s each went 3-1 on the first weekend of 3SSB. The 17s beat Team Lillard 74-69 in the opener. One of the top players for the 17s was Modesto Christian 2023 guard BJ Davis

April Phillips, considered a rising coach, has been hired at San Jose State. She was most recently an assistant at Cal and Texas.

St. Francis-Mountain View (14-2) beat Sacred Heart Cathedral (10-5-1) 9-2 behind a pair of RBI each from Wyatt King and Derek Kile. Tristan Kim struck out 10 batters over six innings. Colin Spear had a home run in the loss. St. Ignatius (9-9) beat Valley Christian (11-4-1) 4-1 as the Wildcats outhit the Warriors 8-2. Josh Pashby threw a complete game with six strikeouts. Serra (9-10) led 3-0 after three innings in posting a 3-1 win over Mitty (10-5). Samuel Kretsch threw a complete game in surrendering just a home run to Matteo Blandino. Bellarmine (12-4-1) beat Riordan (6-10) 1-0 in 11 innings. Carlmont (11-4-1) flexed their offensive prowess in a 14-2 win over Menlo-Atherton (6-10). Carson Vance and Aidan Kurt combined for seven RBI.

Woodcreek (12-1) completed its sweep of River Valley (1-12) with a 14-2 win in five innings. Connor Barth and Noah Madsen had seven total RBI and Austin Nye struck out five batters in two perfect innings. Vanden (15-1) stepped out of league to beat Berkeley (9-5) 7-2. Jason Olsen had a home run and two RBI. Colfax (10-7) got a two game sweep of Bear River (7-7) with a 16-1 win on Friday. Chase Pfeifer had a home run with four RBI and Marcus Maeder picked up the win.

Foothill-Pleasanton (14-1) beat Northgate (6-8) 10-3 to advance to the championship game against Redwood this afternoon. Jack Basseer went 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBI. Landen Rota and Tanner Bradley combined on a three hit shutout in Cardinal Newman’s (12-1) 3-0 win over Carrillo (5-9-1). St. Bernard’s (10-2) is 2-1 at its tournament in Arizona, which concludes today. Their lone local loss is to Arcata (9-1).

Whitney (12-3) completed a three game sweep of Folsom (6-8) with a 10-3 win yesterday. Sam Thawley went 3-for-3 with three RBI. Other SFL scores were Oak Ridge (9-6) over Granite Bay 6-7) 10-7 despite five seventh inning runs from the Grizzlies. Andy Uharriet improved to 5-0. Rocklin (7-8) shutout Del Oro (10-5) 10-0. The Thunder won the final two games after dropping the opener. Oakdale (10-6) earned a split against Central Catholic (10-7) with a 2-1 win. Johnny Wylie struck out nine in a complete game effort. This was the Raiders’ first loss in league play.

Leland (5-9) completed the two game sweep of Willow Glen (11-5-1) with a 9-3 victory behind six runs in the seventh inning. The Chargers have won three in a row. Leigh (13-3) bounced back from an extra inning loss to Wilcox to beat Prospect (6-8) 2-1. Two of Leigh’s three losses were by one run. Pacific Grove (4-10) earned a split with Palma (13-3) after Thursday’s 7-2 win. The result leaves San Benito (9-5 overall) alone in first place. Branham (12-4) outlasted Wilcox (13-5) in an 8-7 victory. Branham plays a key two game set against Leigh next week.

Pittsburg (12-4) scored four runs over the last two innings to beat Heritage (9-6) 7-6 for a two game split. Cole Leschak and Gio Fuentes each had two RBI for the Pirates. Granada (11-5) shutout Amador Valley (5-10) 2-0 at the Alhambra Easter Tournament. Joshua Morano threw a two-hitter with nine strikeouts. Marin Catholic (13-3) beat Branson (5-8) 6-1 for its fourth straight win. Alex Saavedra had two doubles and Kody Perry struck out six batters in five innings.

The 10th annual Nor Cal Spring Showcase will be held Saturday May 7 at Chabot College in Hayward from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Entry fee is $260 per team. Discounts for three or more teams. Each team will play two games. Open to boys 17u, 16u, 15u teams.

Miramonte quarterback Luke Duncan (6-foot-5, 215 pounds) completed 57 percent of his passes for 2,949 yards and 30 touchdowns against 12 interceptions. He puts good touch on the ball to get it over defenders and can throw with velocity in going over the middle. Duncan can also keep his accuracy even when he’s not set. Junior Film

In the EBAL, #2 De La Salle (10-2) scored four runs in the first inning en route to an 8-5 win over #6 California (12-3). Junior Connor Harrison had a home run and five RBI and Cade Cushing added two RBI. Sam Sitzman struck out six batters in relief to get the win. The Grizzlies got two RBI apiece from Nic Bronzini, who also threw two innings of relief, and Aidan Camberg.

Tyler Yocum went 4-for-4 with five RBI in Mountain View’s (9-6) 11-3 win over Santa Clara (10-7). Chase Yocum threw four innings with seven strikeouts to get his fourth win of the year. Jordan Montez went 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Bruins.

Rio Americano (10-5) beat #19 Vista del Lago (14-3) 20-3 in five innings to split the first two games between the teams. They finish their series on Friday. In Wednesday’s win, JT Wright and Ryan Christiansen each had home runs.

#11 McClatchy (10-0) was back on the field with an 11-0 win over Kennedy-Sacramento (7-4). Gabe Henderson went 3-for-4 with three RBI and struck out five batters in 3.1 innings to get the win.

Elsewhere, #1 Cardinal Newman (11-1) won its 10th in a row with an 8-5 victory over Carrillo (5-8-1). Brady Boyd had three RBI and Mason Lerma threw five shutout innings. Arcata (9-1) won its opener over Fortuna (10-3) 9-6. They led 7-1 after two innings. The two will play a doubleheader on Saturday. Joe Brown had a home run and Aaron Davainis threw a complete game with nine strikeouts in Petaluma’s (6-5) 6-1 win over Sonoma Valley (6-7). Burlingame (8-4) beat Aragon (9-3) 4-2. The Panthers are the lone unbeaten in the PAL-Bay Division. El Capitan (11-4) beat Buhach Colony (13-4) 5-3. Andrew Bakken gave up three runs over 5.1 innings for the Gauchos.
