PLAYOFF SHOW DOWN PREDICTIONS...D-1,D-2,D-3,D-4,D5

This coming Sat. night finds the game of the week between Marin Catholic and Cardinal Newman at Rancho-Cotate HI at 7 P.M. It looks like the Gods of High School football has guided these two teams to meet and the winner will move on to possibly meet Central catholic or Oakdale??....In the past, Cardinal Newman met Central catholic at the Battle of the Capitol at Del Oro Hi. and they also had preseason meets also...
D-1
DLS 11-1 Vs. Foothill 12-0 at Dublin Hi on Sat. at 7 P.M....Who is going to win it, unfortunately every thing points to the Green Machine in a run away....The Spartans run a punishing O and D and have been ruthless in their victories with many shut outs...California lucked out and met them twice and both times, they could not score and if any body could, we thought that California could do it.
And then look what happened to Pittsburg....The Line Score..
DLS.........42.....14.....07.....07.....70
Pittsburg..00.....07.....00.....07.....14
DLS rolled up 56 points during the first half, but the Pirates did manage to score seven in the second quarter.
And then compare Foothill against Antioch....The Line Score..
Foothill.....07.....07.....20.....21.....55
Antioch ....08....08.....08.....30.....54
Foothill slugged it out in the first half, but was behind 16-14 and then they exploded for 41 in the second half, but the Panthers came up with 30 in the fourth quarter and almost stopped the Falcons.... Foothill can't afford to give up that many points to DLS like Pittsburg did...Its going to take a all out plan and sneaky tactic's to get by DLS, but we are talking about the Spartans..
DLS 52 Foothill 14
D-2
CVC 11-1 Vs. Concord 9-4 at DVC at 7 P.M. on Sat......Concord lost their first meeting to CVC 42-22 and now they face that same determined defense again and the running of Jackson...Now the Minutemen in last weeks clash with Miramonte surprised every body with a 60-32 victory...So with this win under their belts, they should be ready for the Eagles...Maybe...
CVC 42 Concord 28
D-3
Campolindo 12-1 Vs. Analy 13-0 at DVC on Friday night at 7 P.M......The Cougars have that big front three in Strothers,Flowers and Cassidy which makes running straight ahead, a tough decision, how Analy plans to attack the Cougars will be from all ends and they showed how it works by knocking off Rancho-Cotate which was no easy task....This game could be the second game of the week, as there should be plenty of fire works..
Campolindo 37 Analy 30
D-4
Marin Catholic 11-1 Vs. Cardinal Newman 11-2 at Rancho- Cotate on Sat. night at 7 P.M.....MC sports a big aggressive line for defense, but does not have the speed that CN has. CN has a one-two punch in Brookshire and Ortola, plus Brookshire's ability to scramble and get out of trouble and turn it into big yardage....MC sports QB Peterson who has a good arm and can get out of trouble also, plus he has two big running backs which will give CN's defense a hard time....This is a game that could turn into a defensive battle or a wild shoot-out and a shoot-out is more likely...Who ever makes the most mistakes...looses..This game could go either way..
Marin Catholic 31 Cardinal Newman 28..
D-5
Berean Christian 11-1 Vs. Bernard Academy 11-1 at Alhambra Hi on Sat. at 7 P.M....We have two small schools, but the Eagles are the largest at 453 while Bernard Academy is at 167...The Crusaders belong to the Humbolt Del Norte Little Four that has only four teams in the league which means they face league teams twice. The Crusaders have only one loss to Justin-Siena 35-14 and a close call with a win over Ferndale 37-36. For the Eagles, the playoff has not been easy with win s over Stellar Prep 6-2 and a 31-28 win over Valley Christian, plus a OT win over John Swett 37-36 and their only loss was to Cloverdale 28-24..
The Eagle have a big line and a lot of speed and had little trouble in league play while the Crusaders got by each league game, but not by decivise wins.
Berean Christian 41 Bernard Academy 28....

Colts Crazy Punt Attempt

Goes to show us all that even at the highest level people do crazy stuff. It's only natural to critique coaches and players at all levels but that play put things in prospective. Even coaches and players making millions of dollars do stupid stuff. The best part is the ref was sorta laughing when he announced the penalty.

How Did We Go Wrong As Sports Parents?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rick-...tm_campaign=Press+Box+120115&utm_medium=email

This is a true story.

Not too long ago, I received a call from a well-intentioned dad who explained that he was an avid listener to my WFAN sports parenting show, and he wanted to ask my advice about his son, who he explained was a promising baseball pitcher.

In short, the father wanted to know if I could recommend any advanced summer baseball camps or private pitching tutors who could help develop this young man's pitching talents.

We chatted for a few minutes and I gave him a few tips. Towards the end of the conversation, the proud papa thanked me for my time, and then added, "Y'know, Rick, between you and me, I really do think my kid has a good shot at playing pro ball."

Impressed, I then asked where the boy went to high school, with the thought that maybe I should go watch him pitch a game.

The dad laughed heartily: "Naw, my son's not in high school yet... he's only nine!"

Funny story, but I've been tracking the world of sports parenting for more than twenty-five years, and I've come to this conclusion: That, for better or for worse, many of today's sports parents have morphed into becoming fully engaged sports agents upon behalf of their athletic youngsters.

By weekday, Mom and Dad go about their everyday jobs and careers, but if their son or daughter has ever shown the smallest spark of athletic ability, these well-meaning parents pick up on that talent quickly. They begin to dream that their kid might very well be the next Carli Lloyd or Matt Harvey. It's at that point that the sports parent decides that they need to look out for their child's athletic future and begin to filter their kid's activities only as they relate to sports.

Today's sports parents are sophisticated and usually work in a subtle and behind-the-scenes manner in a discreet manner. They are more likely to want to "befriend" the high school coach, or travel team coach, or athletic director in a controlled manner. These are the sports parents who feel compelled, indeed almost entitled, to approach their kid's coach if a sudden obstacle pops up in their kid's march to fame and fortune, as in:

"Coach, how come you had my Sally sitting out in the second half? She's clearly our best player... don't you want to win?"

"Coach, my son tells me you're trying to change his batting stance. You should know that he worked all winter with a private batting coach, and in truth, we're pretty happy with his current stroke."

"Coach, I know the varsity has a big game this weekend, but my boy has been selected for a high-powered showcase. He's going to attend that, because there will be lots of college coaches there. I'm sure you understand..."

These kinds of conversations happen everywhere in this new world of sports parenting. The irony is that these moms and dads are solid citizens who go to church, pay their taxes on time, and only want their best for their children. But when it comes to their kid's athletic career, that's when their competitive juices begin to flow. In short, today's sports parents are looking for any kind of advantage or edge that will propel their kid onto the fast track to a college athletic scholarship or perhaps even a professional contract.

This is why travel teams are popping up routinely for kids as young as six or seven years old. The general belief among these sports-ambitious moms and dads is that the sooner my youngster can get on a superior travel team, the faster their skills will develop. Think I'm kidding? I was reading not along ago about a new soccer clinic in Los Angeles for kids who just turned two years old. And the soccer clinic's business was booming.

Never mind that there are classic studies from Michigan State's Institute for Youth Sports which says that 74 percent of all kids who play organized sports will quit by the time they turn 13. Or that athletic burnout has become a real threat for kids who play sports all year round.

Then there's the harsh reality that too many parents seem to forget that once a youngster reaches their adolescent years, everything can change dramatically due to teenage hormones. Short kids suddenly sprout and grow tall. Chubby kids who were slow begin to lose the baby fat and become quick. Kids who were early bloomers and big for their age in elementary school stop growing and then watch their peers catch up to them in size and strength.

But again, today's sports parents don't miss a trick. This is why lots of sports parents decide to hold their athlete, um, student, back a year in school. They're convinced that it's better for their kid's overall development (read: athletic development) if he's one of the bigger and older kids in their grade, instead of being the youngest.

So what's going to happen next? That's hard to predict. On one hand, there's no question that today's kids are bigger, stronger, faster, and more talented that we were. But that being said, I often whether our kids have as much fun playing sports as we did. It's hard to have fun when you're always pressing to get the next level.

Manteca- B+ (Has some work to do but a solid group with great Size and Kenny Wooten)
St Marys- D (Over matched for these type of events)
O'Dowd- C (Definitely a work in progress, good pieces, will improve)
Dublin- C (Not much outside of Falls, beat a struggling O'Dowd. Will struggle vs comp)
Modesto Chrstn- B (Looked out of sync but always good come playoff time)
Folsom- A- (Well coached, great guards. Enough Said)
Newark M- C (Over achieving team)
Woodcreek- B+ (Huge upside)
Moreau- A (Big time performance on big stage. Please Give Coach Knight his due!!!)
Sierra Canyon- C (Overhyped. Not their fault blame the "rankers")

SJS D-3 prediction....

So here's my prediction on how this Friday's semis will go down
Oakdale-20
Inderkum-28
After watching both squads, Oakdale will struggle against a bigger, faster Inderkum team that still has the bitter taste of losing that title game last year to this same Oakdale squad....
Placer-23
Central Catholic-35
Key here is Placer's run game, as they have to grind this one out and move the chains in order keep that CC offensive attack to limited possessions..CC is just to difficult to defend because of their ability to pass the ball with high efficiency when teams try to stack the box trying to stop their run game...
