Liberty-Bakersfield Upsets Clovis

Clovis was expected to win the game with Liberty. But Liberty took Clovis to the woodshed for a 56-21 beating. Even though Calpreps had Clovis rated slightly higher, they predicted a liberty win. Most other services, including CalHiSports predicted a Clovis win.

Liberty will probably be placed somewhere around the D2AA or D2A area for NorCal regional bowls.

Regional Bowl Game questions

Can someone explain why CCS automatically gets their second place teams into the regional bowl games when the NCS and SJS don't? Thats straight up unfair especially with the seeding process this year. The second place CCS teams will be seeded low and likely play teams with smaller enrollments...WTF. Also, everyone on this board knows second place teams in the NCS (foothill), and SJS (Folsom or Elk Grove) are ranked much higher than the CCS seconds. What about other teams like the loser of MC/CN or Rocklin/DO or CC/oakdale etc.. which are better than the CCS second place teams? It doesn't make sense, but then again the CCS open didn't either. It should be fair across the board, based on enrollment for all sections,

PLAYOFF RECAP FOR D-1,D-2,D-3,D-4,D-5

All the games went according to Hoyle except for Berean Christian-St. Bernard Academy which we did not expect the Crusaders to be well guided by a QB who was a Jack of All trades....And how about the game of the week between Marin Catholic-Cardinal Newman...I expected the game to be a lot closer, but I saw what the MC line could do in the first game of the year and what they did to Alhambra last year and this is what was done to Cardinal Newman.

D-1
DLS vs Foothill.....the Pick....DLS 52 Foothill 14....what happened.....DLS 35 Foothill 0.....Foothill put up a good defense and held the Spartans to a 14-0 lead at the half...although the Falcons could not generate enough offense to get on the board, they at least held the green Machine to a 35-0 win.

CVC vs Concord ......The pick.....CVC 42 Concord 28....what happened.....CVC 23 Concord 22......those PATs are killers and making the right choice can some times be a toss of the hat....But this was the difference on top of a solid effort by the minutemen to give the Eagles a strong game....In the last meeting, concord played CVC tough in the first half, but the third quarter saw the Jackson led Eagles rack up 29 points and the game was over at 42-22.
D-3
Campolindo vs Analy....The pick Campolindo 37 Analy 30....what happened.....Campolindo 38 Analy 28 ...For what ever reason, the Tiger receivers got a serious case of can't catch the ball.to the tune of 10 drops, one for a sure TD that may have changed the game...but it was the Cougar defense that found ways to break thru the Tiger pass defense at times to put the Tiger QB on the run. Plus the running of Ward and Cassidy and the line play of Abbott,Flowers,Cassidy, mcneil and Throther which aided in the win.

Marin catholic vs. Cardinal Newman.....The Pick.....MC 31 CN 28.....what happened.....MC 38 CN 21.....The Marin catholic line's aggressive play made the difference as CN could not deal with the pressure...as good as Brookshire is, it was too much to deal with...A lot of guys thought that CN was going to win and I thought it would be close, but MC thought different...so now MC may face Central Catholic which will be another great game...
D-5
Berean Christian vs. St. Bernard Academy.....the Pick.....Berean Christian 41 St. Bernard Academy 28......what Happened.....St. Bernard academy 31 Berean Christian 17.....I don't think this was a upset, as we under estimated St. Bernard Academy and the running and passing of Jack Rice who took a lot of hits, but just kept on rolling sure proved he is a one man gang. He had a big line to support him and in the first half, it looked like a defensive battle, but the tigers opened up in the third quarter and put the game out of reach even though the Eagles did a last minute try to close the scoring gap....

Bernard Academy 31 Berean Christian 17

Bernard Academy.....09.....00.....15.....07.....31
Berean Christian.......03.....07.....00.....07.....17

The Crusaders took off on the opening kickoff and drove down to the two yard line only to fumble and it was QB Jack Rice who was the driving force with runs of 15,one,5,16,4, plus passes of 15 and 13....Now The Eagles took over on their two only to get a bad snap and Crusaders were in the lead 2-0 on a touch back.. But a few minutes later Rice hit Washington on a 17 yard pass and it was 9-0....The eagles took the kickoff and drove down to the crusader 41 where the drive stalled and the Eagles booted a 41 yard field goal making the score 9-3. But then with 54 seconds left in the first half, the Eagles went ahead 10-9, on a 28 yard gallop.
When the second half opened up, so did the Crusaders who scored 15 points as Rice hit Washington again for 32 yards and later, Rice rambled thru the Eagle line for the second TD. from three yards out. The Crusaders final TD came on a 10 yard run by Drake..
The Eagles had a hard time stopping Jack Rice as he carried the ball 20 times for 134 yards and thru 27 passes and hit 14 for 258 yards....he was sacked twice and intercepted twice....For Berean Christian, their QB went to the air 19 times and hit nine for 102 yards, the running game saw 36 carries for 184 yards which included two no gains...The Eagles racked up 13 first downs, had 12 penalties for 80 yards which really cost them, were intercepted twice and punted twice and fumbled two times and lost them both while the Crusaders rolled up 19 first downs gave up 80 yards in penalties on nine plays, fumbled two times also, were intercepted twice and punted three times.
Both teams took a lot of chances, going for a first down on fourth and four and fourth and five and it was the Crusader defense that put the brakes to the Eagles as they led 24-10 going into the four quarter and going deep into the fourth quarter, the Crusaders went ahead 31-10, but then the Eagles came back with a 10 yard run and it was 31-17 for the game ending score.... The Crusaders, led by Jack Rice were just too much for the Eagles...

HALF MOON BAY 54 --- Pacific Grove 7

HALF MOON BAY WINS 2nd CCS TITLE IN SCHOOL HISTORY!!!!

Half Moon Bay 54, Pacific Grove 7: Matt Spigelman racked up 217 all-purpose yards and scored four touchdowns as Half Moon Bay won the Central Coast Section Division V crown at Independence High.

The title is the second in school history for the Cougars (11-2).

"We consider ourselves not so much a team as we do a family," HMB coach Keith Holden said. "We knew we only had one more week together, and we wanted to go out the right way — we wanted to work hard and enjoy it."

The Cougars certainly had a lot to enjoy, starting with Spigelman. The senior running back rushed for 162 yards and three TDs on 15 carries and also hauled in a 55-yard TD pass from quarterback Gavin Tomberlin with HMB facing third-and-30 on the second quarter's opening play.

Spigelman's first rushing TD, a 2-yarder, followed his own 87-yard burst up the right sideline and helped stake Half Moon Bay (11-2) to a 28-0 lead late in the second quarter. He then added two more rushing TDs in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

In addition to his offensive stats, Spigelman made a huge play on defense. His second-quarter interception prevented Pacific Grove (10-3) from gaining momentum after the Breakers scored their lone touchdown on their previous possession.
