Collegiate Summer Baseball

The Pacific Union Financial Capitalists (P.U.F. Caps) are a summer baseball team that plays in the California Collegiate League (CCL). We are based out of the Bay Area and are currently looking for volunteers to house players for this summer (June 8-July 27). We are on the road quite often this summer, so we are looking at app. 35 nights in the Bay Area. The team is comprised of 2015 HS grads from all over the country. If you or someone you know has an extra room or bed and loves baseball and wants to help, please contact Mike Zirelli at mzirelli@loanpacific.com

Roster, schedule, and host family details can be found on our website:

Miramonte vs. Dublin

16-1 Dublin meets 15-2 Miramonte tonight in Miramonte.

Curious to see if Moses (D1 soccer, national pool player, San Diego State bound) matches up on Ionescu (High D1 basketball bound, national player) Moses is faster, quicker and stronger but Ionescu is the superior basketball player and is 6 inches taller. Dublin has two 6 footers and and can bang but lacks 3 pt shooting. I expect this game to be close in the first half but have Miramonte pulling away in the second half.

Riordan vs Bellarmine

Close matchup between Riordan and Bellarmine in need of a win after tough losses from St. Ignatius and St. Francis.

Very quiet atmosphere with the exception of Bellarmine's band, masking the absence of their "ranked" cheering squad. (I only saw two cheering in the front row)

Riordan needed to work extra hard with many calls going in favor of the Bells in the first half. On the Riordan side, more of the supporting cast contributed points with leading scorer Stansberry.

Bells led in the first half and trailed in the second half. Rim caught fire from all the threes shot by Owens. He was killing them! Bells took advantage of turnovers and second chance shots to stay in the game.

Game was closer than the final score appears. 63-59 Riordan

What happened at St. Ignatius?

EBAL Prediction 1-20-15

Not sure what happened to my original account but I still managed to make my morning post with a slight change to my name. Like I mentioned last week this evening is when league standings will really shape up. Here is how I see them going down:

GRANADA at AMADOR VALLEY - Granada comes off a disappointing loss at home against Foothill and a rough 1-3 league start. They need to bring it together and string three winds to end the first half of league or else it could really start to fall apart for them. Amador is kind of in the same boat as Foothill last week. Get the win and you now replace Granada as the fifth best team in league. Being that it is a home game for Amador, I will give them the edge. AV 58 GRANADA 53

LIVERMORE at CAL - These two teams have little chance of winning any games unless it is against each other. A team would have to really slip up and overlook them and I do not see that happening. If I am Cal, I have to think this is a great chance to give their new coach his first league win. Go Griz! CAL 56 LIVERMORE 38

SAN RAMON VALLEY at FOOTHILL - Foothill has provided some great challenges for most of the top teams and SRV will have to be careful not to think about their Friday game until this one is over. Cobb and Findley have a nice one-two combo but I just wonder if Foothill has the depth to stay in the game with the Wolves. Smith and Fuca have played extremely well together and Spackman has been steadily improving in the post. I see the Wolves making a strong statement and remain undefeated in league play. SRV 73 FOOTHILL 56

MONTE VISTA at DE LA SALLE - I am having flashbacks of the three games last year and how Jones and the Mustangs were able to sweep Frank and the Spartans. This year it would make sense to say DLS has the advantage, with all that MV lost due to graduation. My biggest concern is the health of Peters, who took on of the cheapest shots I have seen in a game in some time last night. He showed some guts and came back to play in the final minutes but how he feels today might be a bigger concern. MV is well coached and Nick will find a solid game plan to keep this competitive but I feel that the home court is enough to take the opening matchup between these two teams. DLS 59 MV 50

Enjoy the games!

DLS loses to Monte Vista 67-62 in double OT!!!

Crazy game. DLS was up by 12 with about 2 minutes left in regulation. #10 on MV hit a buzzer beater 3 OFF THE BACKBOARD to tie it at the end of the 4th qtr. Both OT qtrs. were pretty tight. DLS couldn't stop MV's low post feeds for easy buckets all game long. DLS missed a lot of 3's late in the game, including both OT's... Had trouble getting to the basket as well...

Around the SFL, Granite Bay beat Del Oro and Rocklin beat Nevada Union. Here are the current standings.

Folsom 5-0
Woodcreek 4-1
Granite Bay 2-3
Oak Ridge 2-3
Del Oro 2-3
Rocklin 2-4
Nevada Union 1-4

Sacramento Bee

Sierra 48 Manteca 40

Hunter Johnson had 19 points and 17 rebounds to lead a big rebounding advantage for the Timberwolves.

He doesn't get thrown into the "Best Coach" discussions, but Scott Thomason is really good. Always has teams prepared and maxs out his talent.

Modesto Christian head coach Richard Midgley said this in the Modesto Bee over the weekend after playing Sierra, "If they're not the best-coached team in the area, they're certainly one of them, because they certainly knew what we were looking for and where we were going."
