2023 Nor Cal Summer Preview

The 14th annual Nor Cal Summer Preview will be held Saturday and Sunday July 1-2, 2023 at Chabot College in Hayward. It will serve as a warmup for the up-coming NCAA live period beginning on July 6. It is open to teams from high school and AAU programs in all high school grades (including graduated seniors).

The event is designed to provide all players an opportunity to demonstrate their talents/skills in highly competitive games for the college coaches, scouts, and media expected to attend. A report on the event will be done by the Hoop Review scouting service that will be sent to college coaches and various internet sites. All games will be live streamed by Baller TV.

Cost is $500.00 per team for two days (4 games) or $260 for one day (2 games). Multiple (3 or more) team discounts are available. For more information email: gerryfreitas@hotmail.com.

BABCA: Whitney (4-1; wins over Vanden and Riordan), Salesian (4-1; beat Oak Ridge and Marin Catholic) and St. Ignatius (3-1; wins over Vanden, Oak Ridge and St. Francis Sac)

Baller TV: Lincoln-Stockton (5-0), Univeristy (4-1; beat Del Oro) and Piedmont (4-1; beat Moreau Catholic and Caruthers and lost to Del Oro)

Open Division: Mitty (5-0; won all five games by doubles digits with wins over Bishop Montgomery and Benson Poly), San Ramon Valley (5-0; beat SJM, SHC and Antelope), Acalanes (4-1; beat Benson Poly, Pinewood, Pleasant Valley), Carondelet (4-1; beat Windward and SHC and lost to Benson Poly) and Cardinal Newman (3-1; beat LJCD, McClatchy and SJM)

Roseville: Granada (5-0) and California (5-0) were both undefeated

Couple of standout teams from this past week:

SoCal Chevy: Salesian won the title over 2023 Open Division winner Harvard Westlake. Vanden (loss to third place Roosevelt) beat De La Salle (loss to 5th place Windward) in the consolation finals.

Chevy Silverado: Mitty won the title over Montgomery. Jesuit finished fourth with losses to Mitty and Bosco.

Advocates4Athletes: Branson finished in 5th place with a 3-1 record. Its loss came to champion Centennial.

Baller TV: Monterey Trail beat Bellarmine in an All NorCal final. Lincoln Stockton finished fifth with a second round loss to Bellarmine.

Passport: Riverside Poly beat Serra in the finals. Dublin beat Sheldon in the third place game.

SCIBCA: Rocklin beat Clayton Valley Charter in the finals. St. Ignatius finished third after losing to CVC in the semifinals.

Maria Carrillo High School (Santa Rosa) - 11th Annual Sonoma County Shootout - June 30-July 1st

Maria Carrillo High School in Santa Rosa is hosting our 11th Annual Sonoma County Shootout on Friday/Saturday, June 30-July 1st. The tournament features varsity and JV/Small School brackets with a 4-game guarantee. Teams will play an extra game to start the tournament and then take part in an 8-team bracket. We have 5 varsity teams committed (Analy, Justin-Siena, Ukiah, Windsor, and Maria Carrillo) and 4-JV teams. We are looking to add up to 3 additional varsity teams and 4 JV teams.

SFIAC High School Awards Banquet on 5/15/23

The San Francisco Italian Athletic Club his hosting its 7th Annual High School Awards Banquet on 5/15/23 at 6:00 pm at 1630 Stockton Street. The dinner is modeled after the Heisman Trophy but honors the best high athletes, coaches and teams in the City. The event is a fundraiser for high school sports in the City with the primary beneficiary being the AAA. If you can not attend, you can purchase and donate tickets for student athletes to attend. This is a basketball tournament for high school varsity level teams only and is intended for team development. All-star teams, i.e. teams comprised of players from more than one school will not be allowed to participate.
