MLB SPEED OF PLAY

This was in todays SF Chron. He (Art) has some good thoughts here.

Art Santo Domingo has a terrific idea on how to improve baseball, and this is a voice of experience. The New York-raised son of Colombian parents, he followed his beloved New York Giants at the Polo Grounds and made a trip to San Francisco after the Giants moved in ’58. He wound up joining the organization, serving as a statistician, public-relations director (1969-75) and official scorer, a job he holds to this day. “Ten-man pitching staffs,” he said the other night. “Make it a rule.” Benches, now inexcusably thin, would expand from four or five to seven players. At a time when pitching is overwhelmingly dominant, some essential balance would result. Outside of relievers needing to adjust to longer outings, where’s the drawback? If teams can’t get by with five relief pitchers, they should get out of the business.

So you want to be an FBI agent?

After hearing this on the news I thought anyone in athletics especially track would get a chuckle out of this.

It seems in recent years with the FBI concentrating a large amount of their time & resources on cyber-crime, that too many agents have gotten overweight & out of shape. Therefore the FBI has announced it is going to start having the agents meet the mandatory athletic requirements used in the past to evaluate their condition & verify its agents are in good shape. Now if you go to the FBI website it will show times in which to pass each test, but not the minimums which were shown on the news this morning.

OK, are you ready?

1] Agents have 1-minute to complete a minimum of 25 sit-ups.

2] Agents have 1-minute to complete a minimum of 11 push-ups [yes - I said eleven]

3] 300 Meter Sprint: Agents must run in under 86 seconds [umm, if you walk fast you can do that??].

4] Must complete a 1-mile run in under 15-minutes, 56 seconds [or approx. 4 min. per 1/4 mile = 1 minute per 100 yards]

I think the FBI really needs to recruit some Navy Seals badly if they're not sure some of its agents can pass the above.

City All Star Game on Friday 5/1 at CCSF - Rosters

I am organizing the 8th Annual City All Star Games on Friday May 1st at CCSF. The event will be again held in the memory of Coach Michael Gragnani. Historically, this event has been a lot of fun for the players, a great way to bring the San Francisco basketball community together and a great send off for our Seniors with an affirming experience.

It is for Seniors only per CIF rules. We will have a girls game at 5:30 and a boys game at around 7:30 with a 3-point and dunk contest in between. We will charge $5 admission to cover our costs including the t-shirt uniforms which the players get to keep, trophies and referees. We usually lose money or break even but if there is a profit it goes to the Bay Area Warriors non-profit.

I have made the lists of invitees by reviewing the All-League teams for the AAA, WCAL or BCL.

I need your help passing along this information to any of your players on the invite list. Either have them RSVP to me or get me their phone number and/or e-mail address so I can invite them directly..

Thanks for your help!
