MLB release season begins

Every year a high school guy signs for big money instead of going to college and a few years later he is released. Granted some guys just do not pan out and others due. RHP Kyle Castro, was released this week:

A 6-foot-5 prep righthander from Elk Grove, Calif., Kyle Castro signed with the Rangers as a third-round pick in 2011, but injuries and ineffectiveness derailed his career and led to his release this week. He spent the entire 2012 and 2014 seasons on the disabled list, and he didn't pitch all that effectively when healthy, logging a 7.53 ERA and 1.93 WHIP in 43 career innings, all in short-season ball.

Bay Area Kids Transferring

Verbal Commits on Twitter has created a list of transfers it is really interesting to see how many kids are leaving from schools nowadays...

Frankie Ferrari and Mark Tollefson, along with a few other kids leaving USF, what is happening over in Frisco?
Trevor Dunbar is transferring from Washington St
Joey frenchwood from Montana St
Dulani Robinson from Pacific
Kendall Smith from UNLV to Northridge
Shon Briggs coming back from Wyoming college to SF CITY

Anyone know why these guys are transferring and where they may end up?

Coach Turnover in SCVAL

Hadn't seen this one -- Mountain View does not renew it's Baseball coach's contract.

ZINSMAN DONE AT MOUNTAIN VIEW
Zeph Zinsman did not have his contract renewed as baseball coach at Mountain View, lasting just one season. The Spartans went 11-15, 4-10 in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division. Zinsman, a former star player at Mitty-San Jose, did not wish to comment.
"We're going in a different direction," Mountain View Athletic Director Shelley Smith said. "He's a good coach with a ton of potential. He did a good job here, but it didn't work out. I want him to land on his feet somewhere."
Last year, Adam Petke was relieved of his duties as Mountain View baseball coach before the end of the regular season.
New coach, whoever he is, will be third coach in three years. Los Altos and Paly are also looking for new coaches in that league.

Rush steps down at CCSF

After 38 seasons, 326 wins, 22 conference titles, seven state titles and seven mythical national championships, City College of San Francisco.

Rush announced his retirement at a news conference at CCSF on Friday morning. The Rams also named Rush's successor, Jimmy Collins. CCSF's quarterbacks coach for the past six seasons, Collins played QB for the Rams in the mid-2000s.

During a lengthy interview Tuesday afternoon, Rush acknowledged he
"really struggled with" his decision to end his career. On one hand,
"I've just been so lucky to have this job," he said. "It's been the best
job."

Still, that job wears on him, particularly during the season.

"You have knots in your stomach 24 hours a day," Rush said. "You go,
'This is crazy.' They always say, 'There are 9 billion people in China
who don't care,' but I care - and I can't change my personality. I can't
make me different than how I'm built.

"Probably some reason we've had success is because I have that drive, but it's also your nemesis."

After a loss to American River College in September, Rush said he couldn't sleep until the following Wednesday.

At age 67, Rush has priorities beyond putting together a game plan for Saturday's opponent.

"I've got five grandchildren," he said, "and I don't want to be going down for the count."

On Tuesday afternoon, Rush occasionally got emotional when recalling some of the top moments of his career.

Norcal Takes the Open & D1 in State

Congrats to both Bishop O'Dowd & San Ramon for winning the state, both having great seasons. O'Dowd was on a mission and completed and great season with a huge victory against an opponent that has had their number over the years. San Ramon, overcame some a great deal early on and even before the season started and with a brand new varsity coach. Let's give credit to the coach staffs and players for all that they accomplished. Coaches put there programs first while these young student athletes had to juggle school, athletics, family, relationships, friendships and faith while accomplishing their main goal.
