The Cougars were able to bounce back from the beating they took at WM Wed night to avenge 1 of their
3 loses this season in dominating fashion. With UCSC coaches in the stands and even with starting the game and playing half the first quarter with a BOYS BALL, HMB jumped out to a 16-6 lead and were never really threatened after that. HMB had 3 players in double digits, 6'-0" Soph Allie Longaker lead all scorers w/ 13 first half pts and a game high 17pts. Followed by Walling who had her best shooting night of the year w/ 4. 3's and 16pts and Tomberlin who added 2 ---3's and 11pts.

With the win HMB moves on to 8-3 league 17-6 overall and is set to meet their rival Terra Nova 8-2, 12-10 this Fri in a Quad game at HMB. The hill will be rock'n as it's not only Senior night but the girls are playing for sole possession of second and on the boys side they're playing for the PAL North title. If you have never experienced a HMB home game on the coast this would be a great night to make it!!!

Grant recently forfeited 3 victories. Anyone know why ?

Manteca High may be building its best team since the Kiwi days. They have 3 young big guys, 1 is sitting out.Coaches from Pacific and Portland were at the game last night. There hasn't been college coaches in the gym for years. Manteca's only flaw is the they have no guards, when teams pressure they have to have a big bring it up. The 3 big guys are high level for HS ball.

Folsom had 7 players from their championship team getting D-1 scholarships and will have some more players going D-2 or lower divisions. Also another player will walk on to play for his uncle at Utah.

At the cat box, SHC beat SI 58-38. Irish had as much as a 25-point lead in the third quarter. Everybody played well. I just wondered where this play was all year.

Crowd was dead quiet and the place was about half-full. Still, I'll take a 20-point win over these guys any time.

I think there's no doubt that the CIF and section playoffs need a complete overhaul. A comment on
another forum topic got me thinking, what's the best scenario for a California
State Football Championship? Between the CCS and their open division consolation
games, misclassification of their open champ and SJS having their D1 and D2
champs playing each other in the D1 bowl game it all seems confusing and disorganized.
The sections want to make as much money as possible by having as many teams
possible in the playoffs, there's no reason to have 2-8 teams or even 5-5 teams
for that matter competing against the states elite. If a kid gets a 5 out of 10
on a quiz in class he or she gets an F, not a pat on the back. The way the
post-season should work is it should be a reward for your regular season, a
team shouldn't need to go through the playoffs to validate they belong in a
second round of post-season games. High school football teams shouldn't have to
go through a 10 game regular season then play another 6 playoff games. It's too
much and while law makers want to limit contact in practice to prevent
injuries, the sections have no problem having 15, 16, 17, and 18 year olds play
an NFL schedule to line their pockets. What I propose is the best of both
worlds…..

#1. Immediately following the regular season have 5 divisions in a state playoff tournament with 8 teams
in a Nor Cal bracket, 8 teams in a So Cal bracket for a total of 80 schools
selected by a committee. A Nor Cal and So Cal champ will be crowned after 3
games and meet for their division state championship to make it a 14 games
season for 10 schools.

- Division 1 (2,000+)

- Division 2 (1,500-1,999)

- Division 3 (1,000-1,499)

- Division 4 (500-999)

- Division 5 (11-499)


#2. Between the 5 state champions a committee will select 2 teams to play in an open championship like
a "Super Bowl." 1 final game and all attention to go with it for a true state
championship. Only 2 teams will play a 15th game and they MUST
already be a state champ.

#3. The sections can now operate like an NIT tournament and run whatever format they wish with the state
tourney teams removed. This way there are more Champions crowned every year
between the state and sections. The sections still get there games and their
money as well as more competitive match ups. If a team like Folsom or DLS go to
the state tourney the section gets a piece of the gate which means even more
money coming in. It makes going to the state tournament more important than the
sectional playoff championship; it would be a big deal and give the fans the
high profile matchups that always seem to be avioded because of the current
format. In a 16 team sectional playoff bracket a handful of teams would play a
max of 14 games.


….. I'd like to start the
discussion to see what other football people in California think. If you like
my idea and want to add onto it, great. If you hate in a want to tear it apart,
awesome. We all know that the current system is severely flawed and needs
revision. The CIF and section to section don't seem like they are on the same
page, this format seems like a good solution that is easy to implement at a moment's
notice.

i would be shocked if anybody on their board participated in sports besides recess. Who in their right mind would schedule a consolation game in a sport that is so emotionally driven as football? They obviously don't understand there is nothing to play for and that's when people can and do get hurt. It was obviously financially driven and that is disgusting.

Finally, all of you talking about students transferring have an inflated idea of the importance of high school football sectional championships. First of all, Serra is still going to play. Secondly, do you really think a student-athlete is going to leave the high school he attends to try and win a section title? Some of you posters would but I highly doubt the kids will. Get some perspective!

Not big as in 5 stars, but big as in 6'7" and 410 pounds. I am sure a lot of you saw the MaxPreps article on him. He will complete his 2 year mission before showing up so he very well may "fill in" a bit. He does not have a football pedigree but it will be interesting to see him on the field.

Both starting tackles and 2 wide receivers signed their letters yesterday in front of supporters. Both O tackles, James McBride (6-4 305 had offer to Boise St and others) and Ricky Williams (6-4 280 had offer to Weber St, Eastern Wash) received full ride scholarships to Sac St while Ty Prince (6-1 180 had offer to Wyoming and Eastern Wash and others) the speedster signed with Weber St. The 4th, Brandon Jackson signed at Azuza Pacific. There are still 4 remaining to sign but have yet to decide where. Randy Post the QB already has D1 schools offering full rides for baseball which is his first love and will go that route. So proud of all these young men.

After an early offer from the Bruins, Davis 2016 shortstop Ryan Kreidler has committed to UCLA. It continues to a big haul from Northern California pledging to the Bruins in the 2016 class.

TOP 20 OVERALL RANKINGS

As is evidenced by the fact there was no movement in the first 14
spots of this week's State 20 rankings, this is the time of the year
when most of the top teams are making easy work of league opponents.

There are some exceptions to that rule, however, such as those teams
in the highly-competitive West Catholic Athletic League, which is still
up for grabs.

Fifth-ranked St. Ignatius of San Francisco would appear to be in the
driver's seat but the Wildcats will get tested by both state-ranked
Archbishop Mitty and Sacred Heart Cathedral. No. 4 Chaminade and No. 17
Alemany also still have to play again in the Mission League.

Out of the eleven teams listed they are broken down by section with CCS leading with 5 teams, NCS with 4 teams and SJS with two teams. Both Brookside and Carondelet are both at 17.9 and Salesian is way down at 14.9.

Its sad to hear that Menlo College, a seemingly affluent and thriving school cuts its football program. It was a NAIA school but was a great option for local kids who were not D1 level athletes. There has to be a way to bring back some D2 type programs. St Marys, Santa Clara, UOP, SF State, CS East Bay. Had did Humboldt survive Title IX. Back the day the league was Hayward, SF, Chico, Sonoma, Humboldt, Stanislaus, Cal Lutheran, Santa Clara and St Marys. As far as I kow all programs lost due to Title IX

Menlo appeared to be rising school for opportunity for good bay are kids to stay local, but now we have nothing.
