Time for Enrollment Based Playoffs

Now that the CIF playoffs have been expanded to 13 teams what does that mean for the CCS proposal regarding the 3 Open Divisions? The new proposal would limit the CCS to only 3 teams eligible to go to the NorCal game. The three Open Divisions seemed to be a good proposal as long as the CIF allowed non-section winners to be eligible to move on. I don't think that the CIF plan allows this. It seems now that the CCS would be leaving bids on the table. I think it is time to go to enrollment based playoffs.

Love Maxprep Computer Ranking vs NCP rankings

MaxPreps uses a computer program to determine team rank. We do not poll coaches, sportswriters, or fans. Nor does our staff make any judgments on the merits of any individual team. Prior season history, school size, and comments on message boards are not considered in the MaxPreps Computer Rankings.

The system utilizes the huge number of game results stored in the MaxPreps database. Generally, the more a team wins the higher the ranking, but the system takes into account quality wins (against other highly ranked opponents) and strength of schedule.

For example, a team's ranking is hurt more by losing to a team that is ranked below them verses a team ranked ahead.

Other factors that will affect the rankings are times when MaxPreps has incomplete or inaccurate information. We will correct errors when they are reported to us. If we are missing a score, report it to us on the team's MaxPreps page. If we are missing a game on the schedule, send us a correction request.

Playoff wins are weighed higher compared to a regular season game.

Movement indicates the up or down movement within the rankings when compared to our previously published rankings.

This tell people about teams that wins and lose on a power scale not in who people make power but play weaker teams and call them quality wins. LOVE THE PART WHERE IT SAYS PRIOR SEASON HISTORY NOT CONSIDERED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THAT MEAN TO ME SCHOOL CAN CHANGE TO BE A POWERHOUSE IN 1 YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND TEAMS LOSE THEIR POWER WHEN PLAYERS GRADUATE EACH YEAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE THAT PART !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO HUMAN FACTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sierra defeats Weston Ranch

Had the opportunity Friday to head to Central Valley with several other coaches to see Sierra vs Weston Ranch. I didn't even know where Manteca was located. Went there to see this Sierra team who is getting a lot of attention , along with there coach.

This Sierra team had some well rounded players and fundamentally sound overall. There Big man was the real deal. There guards were talented and played both ends of the floor. It looked like Sierra would put the game away in the third quarter and fourth quarter.. Weston Ranch never gave up and Sierra almost handed them the game with turnovers. Weston Ranch is a decent scrappy team , but no big man, hurt them. It was a good game .

One thing that stood out to us and seems like some parents in the stands too. Was the coaching of Weston Ranch and there behavior during the game. It was funny, then it wasn't really. This coach was screaming at refs and his players. Let alone all the stomping and cursing at times right in front of the fans and players. He was even embarrassing his players as they came off the floor. Even parents in the stands were getting upset. I'm sure he is a new coach(you can tell) and looked young, but still there is a code of conduct for high school coaches and it was obviously not at this game. At times the refs made some questionable calls , and it was really tough to see this coaches behavior. If he had spent more time coaching his team and setting plays for them, rather than showing his unprofessional behavior,. Weston Ranch might have had a chance to win the game.

I'm not knocking any team, but when coaches with this type of attitude and unprofessional behavior is seen by others. This is unacceptable and I'm sure and hoping the faculty at Weston Ranch will address it with him. I just had to put this out there because it was a good game and the Weston Ranch kids played hard, but came out on the short end. Hopefully there coach can put more attention on coaching the team, instead of complaining , screaming, stomping and acting very immature. The kids deserve better, but also deserve respect form there coach.

CIF Open Selection Process

What the Socal guys think it is....based on a document the CIF sent them...

: Here is what cif sent:
: Teams will be selected and seeded by the committee using the following criteria (un-weighted)
: - strength of schedule
: - overall record
: - freeman/max preps/cif ss top 16 rankings
: - strength at the end of season ( including roster additions/eligibility changes/ winning and losing streaks
: - head to head vs open division entries
: - overall record vs open division entries
: - victories vs quality opponents
: - quality loss
: - unexpected loss
:
The committee will look at each teams complete body of work, for the
entire season, to determine the best qualified entrants into the open
division bracket. It is for this reason that league finish is not
necessarily an overriding consideration for selection.

SHC Soccer Beats Mitty 1-31-2015

Sacred Heart Cathedral men's soccer team beat Mitty at their place 4-0. It came as a surprise since that 4-1 Mitty win at Crocker three weeks earlier.

St. Francis leads St. Ignatius 2-0 at the half. If they go on to win, SHC will be in second place by themselves after Bellarmine. Irish are 10-2-3 overall. SHC is the first 10-win WCAL team so far this season.
