With Cardinal Newmans 64-41 win over Montgomery tonight in the NBL Shaughnessy championship the CN girls run their North Bay League winning streak to 97 in a row. Their last league loss was @Santa Rosa on 1/24/14. That Santa Rosa team had future D1 college player Emily Codding (St Marys) and pro/D1 player Morgan Bertsch (UC Davis).

Tonight's 23 point victory was Cardinal Newman"s closest game in league this season. The 2nd quarter in tonight's game Monty outscored CN 14-13. IT WAS THE ONLY QUARTER CARDINAL NEWMAN LOST IN LEAGUE ALL SEASON.

Quite a NBL season by the Cardinals. Now we will see if they can continue their winning ways in the NCS Open. I got them as the #3 seed.

My prediction:

1. SJND
2. Salesian
3. CN
4. MM
5. BOD
6. HERITAGE

*Cardinal Newman has now won 7 NBL titles in a row

Really impressive for CN. Only losing one quarter is hard to do!

Agree on the six Open teams too.

Cardinal Newman's problem with getting out of the league is geographic -- Miramonte and Carondelet have plenty of nearby teams to play to fill out the schedule. CN would have to take a long ride south pretty much every game to find worthwhile opponents.

It's a really bad situation for the teams in their league, and certainly not a good one for CN, but I don't see an easy answer.

They could try doing what C-Let did...play everyone in the league once, determine league champ to NCS and free up some space on the schedule to play better competition.

ClayK is correct. Going independent (and even joining a certain big time Catholic league in the Southbay)was looked into and it was ultimately determined to be too much. Dont forget that it's an hr drive to Albany from CN...without traffic. Imagine making that drive to the East Bay in rush hr. And games in the South Bay? Ouch...

It’s long overdue to move the “privates-charters-open enrollments” to their own sandbox for reasons everyone on this forum knows about.

Congrats to CN but there will always be the invisible asterisk.

Nice try Boomer...maybe learn your facts before trying to put an asterisk on anything.

It's open enrollment in Sonoma county and the best facilities in the county are at a public school(Rancho Cotate). So not even an advantage on the facilities (which is a private vs public gripe on these threads often)....

So in this scenario it's actually a disadvantage to have to pay 16k/yr. While everyone else is free and can go anywhere they want. No advantage for CN other than they have the best coach(by far).

LOL an asterisk....Hey @northbaybbguru pretty sure Roger Maris didn't mind his asterisk....maybe boomer just hates the number 97? Anywhoooo, 97 league wins in a row is extremely impressive!
