If we cannot control/reduce the incidence of the ongoing pandemic, the CIF's new 2021 sports calendar will be moot. It's clearly in the best interests of everyone connected with prep sports in the Golden State to cooperate with public health authorities _ and that includes all of those private entities involved with AAU and club sports. But will they?

The sections will try to have some sort of season depending on how well we are in January. There are some promising vaccines and treatments that could be available by the end of the year. I’m not an epidemiologist but I did stay at a holiday inn express last night.

I guess there is a glimmer of hope. Might be a sliver but gotta have something to keep you motivated. Odds are not in your favor for seeing any sort of sports though if you want to talk truthfully. A few years ago we were crying about football and contact injuries. I would love to have those days back.

I took the CIF announcement as a hopeful projection more than set in stone. I thought their timeline and waiting until July 20 worked out well. There are always going to be issues for some involved especially in a situation like this when we are choosing between bad and worse

Doubtful the season even happens in January. But say it does. I’ve seen talk of kids going out of state to play in the fall.

What keeps a kid from legally moving to say Florida or another state playing and getting his traditional fall season in there. Then moving back to California after the holidays and strapping it on for the the January 2021 kickoff in California if the numbers are down by then and games are played. Basically getting 2 seasons. If play out of it.

With California leading the country in numbers no way in hell the CIF could dispute a parents claim that they got their kid out of a toxic environment for the fall and when it settled down they legitimately moved their kid back into the state when it was made safe.

pretty sure transfer rules will rule out a player playing 2 seasons of same sport in one school year.

I believe NFHS, which most states use to govern their sports seasons, does exactly that in their bylaws and eligibility rules. They may not cover it in the Sports rules specifically but I believe it is covered in the by laws of the membership and in Athletic Directors manuals for sports on how to determine eligibility of an athlete

If you step back and look at the big picture for teen athletes, you have to wonder about the AAU/club scene and how that basically unregulated environment dovetails with the public/private high school situation which is heavily monitored and remains transparent when it comes to abiding by California health/safety dictates. One example: The state has ordered all gyms to be shut down. Is the AAU/club aspect complying?

You post the same thing over and over and over again looking for someone to agree with you. Athletes will be athletes especially basketball players. They are teenage kids they are not going to hide in their house until god knows when. They are going to work on their games and play like they have done since March. If you want to do something about it call the cops on them quit trying to take some moral high ground that everyone is supposed to sit in their house for 2 years.

colhenrylives Is trying to balance both getting
back on the field with being realistic about the role of COVID-19 . Covid 19 affects different things at different times. His posts are all reflecting those aspects. I find your post with little merit.

Let’s face it. Without sports this sight is no different than FB now or for all you old ladies next door
Neighbor. Everybody is an expert but really nobody is. It’s become just another name calling forum with speculation and rampant rumors.

AAU will take one on the chops. Folks who made money off kids will have to find another occupation.
sure it will return in some capacity but I don’t see the money making glory days of the past especially if we end up with fewer college programs down the road. Funny how things come full circle. I could see rec leagues making a comeback actually. This isn’t just some temp thing. The pandemic has changed things forever.
