Dublin over Foothill 49 to 42
Livermore over Amador Valley 42 to 40.
Any surprises or upsets out there?

The DV over Cal High score is quite shocking. I've seen Cal play 3 times this year and they're VERY good, so grate to DV! Also very surprised by AV losing to Livermore. I thought they'd be top on the 580 side of the league.

I agree with you on everything except AV. I know Kristy has improved and is a force. But I'm not sure the supporting cast is quite ready to help dominate yet. As I have said recently, it appears the better teams have 2 or typically 3 players that carry the load for the most part. So if you only have one but a couple with potential, my advice to coaches out there is to get the other two players developed so you have more than just one or two you depend on to carry the load. Because believe me or not it's not just about the system. The players have to be the ones who execute the system. So never lose site of that fact. That is if you want to pull a few upsets and win a championship or two.

And in fairness to AV Livermore can be pretty scrappy if you let them hang around.

Dougherty Valley has my attention. My question is to anyone who knows......

Did Alexis Hooper a 6'1 potential Division 1 transfer Carondelet let slip away and is now on the California High roster become eligible once league play started? Or will she have to unfortunately and unjustly sit out the year?

Brown is a defensive force, she's not nor has ever been very effective on offense. But aside from her, they are HUGE! Plus a shooter transfer and i thought they'd be good. they have basically everyone back from last years team that was competitive, but just couldn't put the ball in the bucket...maybe their woes continue! I agree, Livemore is scrappy but never would have thought they'd beat AV. I've seen all of the 580 EBAL teams..not so much the 680 teams.

What also was interesting was the transfer from C-Let. She was supposed to be the real deal and they're a pretty good team. Maybe the chemistry isn't there yet. I heard she only had to do the 30-day sit...

Good points ! Thanks for the update on Alexis Hooper. She was the steal in the off season.
Rumor has it she hasn't played yet? But chemistry is big. Chemistry is why Hooper left Carondelet. She never fit in and wasn't welcomed by the team unfortunately. That was strange because you can't teach size or talent. Hooper could give Aquira Decosta trouble trying to move her out of the paint or even blocking Hoopers shot because she was not only tall but wide. I liked Hooper and her father Michael so I wish them all the best. Perhaps in time California will build better chemistry. Also sometimes you overlook a team and my guess is California is focused on preparing for Carondelet and under estimated Dougherty Valley. But the season is young. California will bounce back I'm sure. And Amador Valley may still need time to gel. They may have also under estimated Livermore. I know Carondelet still has some things to work out in order to be hitting on all cylinders and playing the type of unselfish team ball that wins tough games and championships. So the league play should be interesting. Carondelet should take notice and not make the mistake of under estimating anyone in league or they may slip up and it could cost them a game or two as well.

Is she related to the Hooper brothers who went to DLS? I remember seeing her a few years back and thought she had potential.

Can we stop with the Decosta comparisons? I have seen her play a handful of times, including this past week at the west coast jamboree and she is a legitimate national level elite player with a future in the WNBA. I know we all want to knock off the top dog but if there is another player like her in Nor Cal, I have yet to see her.

Yes they are her brothers. One was a star receiver at Stanford who is now playing in the playoffs on the NFL Atlanta Falcons. The other is I believe at UCLA on a baseball scholarship. So it appears to be in the family. Like many young players it's just a matter of finding the right fit. Hopefully Alexia Hooper fits in well with California High. She would have made Carondelet a lot better and deeper the next two years that goes without saying.

I wasn't trying to compare anyone to Aquira. I've been a big Aquira fan before she was in High school. It was actually a compliment to both players. Because Aquira is a beast of a defender no doubt. But a person with Alexis Hoopers size would still be hard for Aquira or anyone else to budge out of the block. And although Aquira jumps out of the gym again the wide frame Hooper has can body smaller and thinner players out. She would get called for going over the back because Hooper would take the space most players wouldn't. But sure it's fair to say only one of the players are an all American at this point.

And I too have watched both Aquira and Hooper since about the 4th or 5th grade.
