St. Francis 60 Jefferson 8
Love the Lancers gym. Magnifies the crowd sound, and the crowd had lots to be happy about in this one. Maybe the best, certainly the deepest squad SF has had in a while. They are undersized but they get up and down well and have shooters. Grace Curley ’27 has a nice feel around the basket. Not sure why they tapped Jefferson for a game because it really wasn't one.

Oakridge 56 Inderkum 50
The Inderkum folks put on an opening night show – lights out for introductions, high energy public address, curtain to burst thru etc. And they have talent (Sr Jamiah Fontenberry, in particular). OR played without D1 commit Liv Yergensen (did not dress), yet still had enough to lock this down. With Yergensen, OR should be tough.

Pinewood 66 St. Ignatius 30
Eye-opening score. SI has just about everyone back from a team that was quite good by the end of last season. It was not their night. Pinewood has a very strong quartet that compliment one another well. All hit threes and all were in double figures. They could use more size, but have a transfer eligible in January.

Tamalpais 43 San Domenico 42
Didn’t see it but am surprised. San Domenico won 23 games last year. They lost a lot to graduation, but still have Stanford-bound Carly Amborn, and were playing at home.

So Cal Bonus: Great tournament at Harvard Westlake where two of the top teams in the country will match up tonight in the final.

Ontario Christian 81 Frances Parker 40
Effortless victory for the Knights against a pretty solid team. They are super quick and gamble like crazy on defense knowing they have a 6’5 shot blocker behind them. They get their hands on everything, and then its off to the races for layup after layup. Think Mitty, but faster. And Kaleena Smith is just deadly.

Etiwanda 58 Sage Hill 30
Closer than the final score indicates. The two-time defending state champs and #1 team in the country according to Max Preps, did not look like it. They shot roughly 10% from distance on a whole bunch of shots, but won because of an absolutely smothering man-to-man defense that was made much tougher by refs swallowing their whistles. I thought there could have been a foul called against them on nearly every possession. It was unpleasant to watch.

One more note on Pinewood game. They got off to a good start in leading 26-11 after the first quarter. They made 5 three pointers in Q1 while St Ignatius turned it over 7 times.

18-4 run to end Q3 ended any shot at a comeback for SI
