EBAL will be a Battle Everynight!

Tuesday 1/31 EBAL Games:

DLS at Dougherty
Cal at MV
Foothill at Dublin
AV at Granada
SRV at Livermore
DV topped DLS 69-55 in a tight game that DLS let get away in the final 4 minutes. DLS led early in a very defensive 1st quarter 9-7 that saw Beasley back in action but somewhat tentative, and Blair with 2 early fouls and limited playing time. DV grabbed the lead 26-18 at the half. DLS fought back and tied it a few times, but each time the Wildcats answered with a bucket and they never regained the lead, trailing 44-40 after 3. DV made the shots they needed in the 4th quarter to put the game away.

Cal upended MV 66-62
SRV took apart Livermore 72-35
Granada 67 - AV 61
No word yet on the Dublin-Foothill game.

Dublin beat Foothill last night 60-44 to set up a de facto EBAL regular season championship game Friday night as DV travels to Dublin. Both teams enter with just 1 EBAL loss throughout the EBAL gauntlet, having played each of the other teams once except each other. Should be a good one! 🍿

Nice work Kiddman!
So there’s a huge advantage to earning the 1st or 2nd seeds, as you basically get 3 byes. A 7th seed would have to win 4 days in a row just to make the finals. There is a lot riding on Friday’s final regular season games. From Kiddman’s link:

7 plays 10 and 8 plays 9 on Monday 2/6.
The winners play 5 & 6 on Tuesday 2/7.
Those winners play 3 & 4 on Wednesday 2/8.
Those winners play 1 & 2 on Thursday 2/9.
Thursday’s winners are in the EBAL final Sat. 2/11

Any insights into tiebreakers and seeding? 4 teams tied for fourth. Huge advantage to being 4 seed compared to 7!

Typically the first tiebreaker is head to head. Since Monte Vista lost to all 3 of the other teams they’re tied with, I would have to think they’ll be the 7th seed. SRV, Granada & Cal all beat MV and split with each other, so I’m not sure how they’re going to sort that out. I’m sure the powers that be are working that stuff out this morning, as the league tourney starts on Monday.

7th seed (MV?) hosts Livermore Monday, and then plays at the 6th seed on Tuesday, with the winner playing 3rd seed Dublin Wednesday. Winner goes to DLS Thursday.

8th seed AV hosts 9th seed Foothill Monday, with the winner playing at the 5th seed on Tuesday, then at the 4th seed Wednesday. Winner goes to DV Thursday.

I found this in the EBAL bylaws from that link Kiddman had posted:

TIE BREAKER SYSTEM: Used to determine EBAL designated champion for NCS Championships unless a sport has other tiebreaker system. *Exceptions to tie breaker* All ties for Cross Country, Wrestling, Swimming and Diving and Track and Field will be determined by their place in the EBAL Meet.

Sec. 1 Records-head to head in the tie.
Sec. 2 Best record of last round played.
Sec. 3 Winner of last round.
Sec. 4 In a 3 way tie (or more) once the tie is broken you then revert back to 1st tie breaker.
Sec. 5 Lottery—if the coach or designee is not present at the pre-season coaches meeting, that school will receive the last number. If there are more than one coach absent, then the commissioner will draw for numbers. 10/19/00
Sec. 6 All team sports - a win earns 2 points, 1 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss. Except- soccer 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss.

So I’m guessing MV drops out at 4, and then they go to a lottery 5 to break the 3-way tie as there was no second or last round since it was a single Round Robin

The Final EBAL battle is tonight as top seed Dougherty Valley hosts 6th seeded Granada.
Both teams are coming off emotional semifinal victories, with Granada outlasting DLS 71-67 in OT, and DV’s improbable 86-83 comeback over SRV.

It’s been a great run this season, as the EBAL consistently produced great drama every night. Some EBAL teams will inevitably still face off against each other in NCS or NorCal play, but the EBAL season concludes tonight.
Should be another good one. 🍿
