For shits and giggles since I have a four day weekend and it’s raining this AM. I thought to myself, who started in the NBA last night and where did they go to school.
Back in the day Oak Hill was the numero uno of prep school talent. They have pumped out around 30 guys to the league over the years. Montverde, IMG, and Findlay now closed have put up some numbers as well.
So last night 37 starters went to high school and 2-3 transferred once. And one guy attended 3 schools.
A couple of international not in the 37(a few are) I could not find what high school they went to.
Two guys from Montverde and two from Findlay and one from IMG. Oh and 2 from La Lumierre and one from Sunrise.
The other prep schools, some I never heard of and most of you probably have not, I question if they are top notch basketball programs. I mean hey I went to Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep.
And not shocking four guys went to for sure basketball focused prep schools that have been closed. And I am not talking Findlay.
Overall and ultimately it is up to the family and the kid and it is a choice. But the recent moves of signed athletes leaving high schools after and right before Christmas is concerning to me. All these top players play nationally on the AAU circuit, would be way more respectful to me during the summer to say hey, I have had my time here, it’s been great, but I am moving on.
Not play say Tuesday night for your high school then Saturday night for a school out of state.
Just my two cents. I feel bad for high school coaches trying to run top notch programs who get smacked mid season like this. Kid leaves Kansas unexpectedly Bill Self is making what 8mil a year, he can just dust off his collar. Kid leaves a great high school program and the coach makes what $5000 if that and has a second job to support his family and has to have a job with flexibility to coach and teach kids life lessons, not cool in my book.
