JC suspends football

Per Twitter report from the Eureka Times Standard, the College of the Redwoods has suspended its football program due to a severe budget deficit.

Unfortunately, the current pandemic, combined with previous worries about head trauma, Title 9 issues, budget problems, liability worries, low turnouts, demographic changes and a distinct administrative/trustee (and parental) bias against the sport (it's too dangerous and encourages aggressive male behavior), is a perfect excuse to get rid of football. All the disturbing signs are there. Expect more of this.

Losing JUCO options will also hurt high school turnout on top of everything else.
