July 20

What’s everyone’s prediction for Fall sports. I was more optimistic a couple of weeks ago. Now it seems everything is trending in the wrong direction. For example what is happening with the MLS tournament and the news from the Ivy League. I can’t see the CIF saying playing ball on July 20. I am thinking the CIF will postpone the Fall and say check back in a few months.

Sadly, with the increase in positive cases and the potential of even more after the July 4th weekend gatherings my gut is saying that the fall will either be cancelled or postponed. I just can't see it happening. I am so eager for a return and to get back on the field with my team, but I just don't see it happening. Most school districts haven't even made a decision on their return to school plans yet and they are scheduled to start in mid-August.

I was speaking with a Superintendent from So Cal last week about this very subject. His response was that he has to also worry about all levels of education for covid/social distancing, he has to worry as much for the 2nd graders not putting boogers on each other as he has to worry about hs sports.

I would be devastated if I was a senior, I would be devasted for my kids if their sr was canceled, but I would live with it. It sucks for everyone involved.

We had 149 deaths in CA over the last 24 hours. It beats the highest number of deaths in April by 23%. We are going in the wrong direction according to Gavin Newsom. If things continue like this we will go back to shelter at home.

It's looking more like we may have to put together a fake Norcalpreps pick'em contest and simulate the games. Hoping not, but it is edging towards not opening sports competition in August.

NorCal preps without sports ends up becoming more political banter sadly. I don’t see hs sports happening anytime soon. They are still figuring out how they will deliver a curriculum. Sports in the grand scheme of things takes a back seat. I hope I’m wrong but I’m at point where I would put money on it not happening.

But all counties/sections are not equal in this huge state. Some are doing a lot better than others. A blanket ruling by CIF seems a bit of a stretch and, actually, unfair.

Very true. The PAC 12 is trying figure this out. Football pays for the other sports to happen.

Tule lake vs modoc central for state. Problem is those remote counties barely can field a team as is and the counties with population are generally the ones who will be shut down. Just seems like a long shot.

Perusing the NorCal counties least affected by COVID and it includes El Dorado County, home to Oak Ridge High. 0 deaths and 3 hospitalizations the past 90 days.

Agreed!! Political banter on this Preps site is akin to toilet business. We all participate and all have our personal style........ I really don't care if you are paper folder or paper roller. If you Feel the need to hold your stall door open to share your bizness it would be far from it for me to complain or try to stop you from exercising your constitution ripes.
......but like the colonel I am finding myself spending more time in the dimly lit bunker poring over Max Preps,Rivals and YouTube HS highlights videos while ingesting Dad's Root Beer floats intravenously and working on a 55 gallon drumm of Costco Cheese Balls.

The CCCAA which manages California Community Colleges has moved football to the spring. This is a big domino to fall. I would imagine the CIF will be next.
Man.. keeping those kids in school for the fall semester and eligible is gonna be tough! Then no early graduates to start spring ball at D1 level. I wonder if some the kids skip the JC season and just go join at the spring

39 Million People in California

Herd immunity?
The culling of the herd?

I lost both my parents this year.(not to COVID-19) who were in assisted living. Try giving two eulogies twice in one year. For each person who passes away there is a family behind them that grieves.

I have never given much weight to the number of new cases. We test more. But when the number of deaths is on the rise I pay attention.

How many deaths is too many for you? After all we have 39 million people?

This for sure is a difficult time for those 18 year olds that have to sacrifice a season or two. It may mean losing out on opportunities that they had set their minds to entering high school. But I wouldnt even put this in the same ballpark. There was a time when you turned 18, you went straight to the military.
